Ready for even more of your Cosmic Queries about space and science with guest host Bill Nye the Science Guy and comic co-host Chuck Nice? Find out what Bill thinks we should explore next with the Large Hadron Collider and whether plant life on exoplanets orbiting weaker red dwarf stars might use photosynthesis. Discover the best ways to change the trajectory of an Earth-bound asteroid and which comets have came closest to Earth without hitting us. You'll learn about microwave clock circuits, global positioning satellites, the impact of technology on human evolution, the interaction of gravity in multi-planet systems and how to figure out the gravitational attraction between a man and a woman -- although Chuck offers his own way to solve that problem. Plus, get Bill's take on dealing with the anti-vaccine crowd and climate change deniers.

Hey Bill, This may never get read but I just have to say it. You are the reason I always loved science as a kid and very sad I never truly pursued the field. This series has shown me once again why you made a such a difference in children across america and maybe the world. If I ever pursue science, I hope to have mentors as passionate as yourself. You are on my top 10 list for someone I would love to share a pitcher/coffee with.

Hello Neil Degrasse Tyson & Bill Nye. I have a question for you. Does airflow has a speed limit? What is the fastest a gust of air can go? How much does gravity affect it's limit? Thanks!

From my understanding photons are essentially force carriers for electromagnetism. Strong nuclear interaction's force carrier is a particle that goes by the name of gluon. I believe gluons have energy therefore they should be effected by strong gravitation. Sorry for my bad English

IMO: Bill Nye is a polymath “genius” way ahead of his era; his seemingly “unsophisticated” and “subadult” locutions, have clearly been shown to be ways to get the “layman” involved our Earthly dilemmas, and it’s his natural cheerful, unintimidating, and comical personality that opens a “pathway”, indeed a first of its kind, between Scientific orthodoxies and the rudimentary “thoughts” of ordinary, daily human life.

Energy exchange limit or limit for two point to interact. it is a bit hard to write down this thought for me. if two points have relative speed more then speed of light, they not able to interact. but they can interact through the third point. (exactly like dark matter) (try to imagine world WITH OUT this).

Here is a thought, two binary planets(one slightly larger than the other), both with advanced life(let's say at our level), both aware of each-other, both in contact, though rare, and both with drastically different species of animals and plants and such(even the "predominant" species - their version of us, effectively), maybe even chemical compositions. Wouldn't that just be fantastic? Even more, what if they both shared a moon, and that moon had life(of the simpler variety) on it, but nobody knew about it? I wonder how that scenario would play out.

I do have a question. not sure if it has been answered yet.. Could we use the moon as a launching point to travel the solar system? It has lower gravity, yet no atmosphere, but with the advances in technology, is combustion necessary?
@comicbstudios

Atmosphere is not needed, infact it makes it easier
@mrhawkins7931
@mrhawkins7931 10 жыл бұрын
then can we set up a space station there and use that as our launching point? I would imagine it would make it easier to get to Mars. Also, what if we set up a telescope on the dark side of the moon? Would we see more clearly?
@comicbstudios
@comicbstudios 10 жыл бұрын
A telescope on dark side of moon would be about the same as one in orbit of earth, as a launching platform it could work but it would probably be more expensive than the amount costed to launch from earth

Responding to Bill's answer regarding language.. I think the future will bring a very different vision where the NEED to know more than one language is completely wiped from existence. I think the last 10 or so years has begun to illustrate this through technology. Right now I can ask my phone to translate anything I say into any other language. In 50 years, I would hypothesize that the translation technology would completely negate the need to ever learn anything beyond your own basic language. Similar to a Star Trek communicator I guess.

So gravity effects age? why does being in space age you slightly more less compared to being on earth?
@madsplaysss
@madsplaysss 10 жыл бұрын
Gravity only affects age if you are being moved through it. It's more speed that affects age because space and time and interlocked with one another. This is the reason why if we moved faster than the speed of light Your mass becomes Infinite and you essneitally wouldn't be capable of sustaining any material bonds. Consider it like X and Y lattitude and longitude.

Hi I'a 57 year old guy who stopped using his math skills so long ago its a wonder I can get 2+2 correctly, I'm currently taking algebra lessons on line (the free ones) and it's tougher then I thought, but I need to know man! Anyway I cant seem to get the hang of it, it's weird I understand the idea but man it's going slow, but man I just need to know. I just joined the Planetary Society and now I'm afraid one day I might bump into say Bill Nye or Neil deGrasse Tyson and I cant even answer the simple of math questions. I'm not going to give up! I just hope if I should get lucky and personally mother members of the P.S. I'm not an embarrassment!

With strong enough photon energies, you can actually cause "photofission" whereby the atom discombobulates under the intense energy imparted by the photon. The amount of energy to do this is huge, and it isn't doing anything TO the strong force, except overpowering it and smashing the atom. Also, gravity can become strong enough to rip apart atomic bonds. This is what is known as degenerate matter. Neutron stars are a type of degenerate matter whereby gravity overpower normal nuclear bonds and turn themselves into a stew of tightly packed neutrons.

to me the 4. dimention is just the 3. dimention stacked infinetly on top of the other With extremly smal changes. and we preser those changes as we move thru time as time. the reason i descibe it like this and i realy wonder wy i cant find anyone describing it like this. to me it is only Natural to describe the 4. dimention like htis but n my description the 4. dimention might not be time but rather a comletly other dimention. wel here is my reason for describing it like so firstly take a point just a point that is 0 dimentions. if you want the first dimention that is a line you need an infinita amount of dimention 0 stacked With slight diference from the last. same With the second dimention take an infinite amount of dimention 1 and stack it and all are slightly diferent. like when you see a painting if you take and cut it in realy realy tiny strips and look at 2 that are NeXT to the other you wil see werry litle diference. and NeXT the Third dimention is like the others it is the second dimention stacked infinitly With slight diferences. just look at an immage crated from scanning a brain when you look at it you sykle thru ALOT of 2d Pictures With slight diferences between everyone of them. and all those make the Third dimention. so With this in mind when all the dimentions we know Works like this wy cant the 4. dimention work like this as wel.

hi bill love your work but wish you would use the word theory in the right way. when u mean fact say so if u look in a dictionary theory means fact it is number 1 on the list an idear is diferent and is number 3 in the oxford English dictionary and number 2 in the collins but number 1 is always FACT. that's how uneducated especily religous people get confused funny how they do not say gravity is just a idear or germ theory is just a idear people need to use the right way when they r in the public eye to get used to what the word realy means. people take the word ignorant as a insult but if someone said that to me i would say YES I AM IGNORANT SO R U SO IS EVERY BODY no 1 person in the world knows everything so we r all ignorant of a lot of thing's i'm ignorent of cricket i have not got a clue about it dont understand it nothing wrong with that and in the dictionary that is what the word ignorant means ( I DO NOT KNOW) there is not a thing wrong with saying I DO NOT KNOW in fact it takes a bigger person to admit that insted of making some shit up to sound like u know the answer because u make your self sound and look a dick head. keep up the great work bill i love science and biology evolutionary biology is my passion i love evolution by none random selection great minds think alike in the case of A.R.Wallace and C.R.Darwin i only with Darwin lived to see J.Watson and F.Crick decode the struture of the double helix D.N.A he would of been thrilled and amazed. love your books and neil's reading the death by black hole NOW i have read his others but never got round to reading this 1 can not put it down great book nearly as good and wity as the badly missed Christopher Hitchens. i read L.Krouss a universe from nothing great book i thought that there can be no such thing as nothing years ago after i started getting in to phisics after reading the great R.Fynman.
