Rocket didn't make a sarcastic remark after his conversation with Thor. He said: "I have a lot to lose, actually". I wouldn't count that as a sarcastic remark. I would count that as a genuine worry. It may have seemed funny at the time, but it's actually really heartwrenching. (And considering what ended up happening. . .his worry came true)
@Ghost-Mom6 жыл бұрын
definitely! he's the only guardian who survived, which means he lost his entire family. That IS heart wrenching.
@pandalandalopalis65156 жыл бұрын
@Kendrick I think there's a huge foreshadowing with that line which makes it important that it was there. He says he has a lot to lose, and he *literally loses everything.* His entire team is wiped out by the Snap and Gamora was killed by Thanos. He lost his family. He has *nothing left.* He had a lot to lose and he lost all of it.
@lettuceprime49226 жыл бұрын
Kendrick - That sounds like something a good director would have the foresight to replace with the current cut. His line is subtle, mildly sarcastic, quite facetious, sincere in context, foreshadows in an "at the refrigerator" sort of way, and - _most importantly_ - completely in character. I honestly thought Infinity War got a touch _too_ dour in places. I'm shocked that people wanted something _more_ serious, or, in your case, ham handed and awkward, bruh. It's fine where it is doing what it does.
@zeroskaterz926 жыл бұрын
A talking raccoon that always have sarcastic lines in almost every moments possible to hide his feelings and people complained about that? Almost like people didn't exactly understood the character for some reason. For Rocket to say some motivational shit to fight Thanos is just contradicted his character whatsoever. There's a difference between character development with turn 180 with the character.
@dietrichvonaken12226 жыл бұрын
Kendrick lol, I didnt think that line was sarcastic or inappropiate at all! It gives great Insight into rockets person (very coherent with Guardians vol. 2 as well) and gives an important balance to Thors "it doesnt matter anyway" attitude. I think he also meant the part with the eye, which was funny and broke the sadness, but also not misplaced, tone, Story and character wise. But I have only seen the german Version, so what do i know :D

What scared me about Thanos' moment at the end is that it mirrors something he said earlier on. I thought it was a pretty minor line and I don't remember what it is exactly, but someone asks what he wants to accomplish and he's like "When this is over I want to watch the sun rise on a grateful universe." and in his eyes, that's what he did. Chilling. Totally wasn't expecting that from Marvel.

Infinity War was unbelievable, I genuinely didn’t expect the ending to happen. Definitely my favorite marvel movie, the jokes weren’t overdone imo, the action (that wasn’t hand to hand) was easy to follow, and the ending was pure shock. I thought this movie would be cookie cutter, but holy shit

I kinda have to disagree with you about how Rocket's comments after Thor's moment were just 'sarcastic'. To me they read as Rocket realising just how deep in the shit he was, and how much he cares about the people around them, all summarised in a wry comment about that situation. And then echoed by him losing Groot in the end.
@Ringsfan16 жыл бұрын
Exactly. He says to himself, "I could lose a lot personally" and at the end he loses everything. He's the only Guardian left at the end. That's deep
@333dae6 жыл бұрын
It was more of him coping with his emotions, from the past 2 movies we know rocket doesn't like to talk about his feelings, he literally drunk cried after drax calls him a vermin.
@doomstadt23713 жыл бұрын
Like a lot of real people, Rocket has trouble with complex or just really hard emotions, and sarcasm or joking is his defense mechanism. He wasn't joking when Groot went because he had no time for his defense to kick in, it was just too real too fast.
@MrAwsomenessprime6 жыл бұрын
I think the one liners and jokes thrown in there were more or less there because that’s just how that character would respond in whatever the situation was. For example, you brought up the Thor and rocket scene. I can’t imagine rocket opening up and getting serious with someone he just met, seeing as we haven’t really seen him open up to too many to people other than groot

The thing that's obviously being missed is Thor revealed right then and there that they use humor to mask their pain. That's the thing about Superheroes, especially in the MCU. They all have tragedy associated with them, they have pain inside they fight every day. So it actually makes sense they would wear a mask of humor to the point it's natural for them. Many of the great comedians are people who significantly struggles with depression, and their humor was originally their mask until they got very good with it.

I agree with pretty much everything you talk about in this video. For the most part, Marvel movies are fast food: enjoyable, interchangeable, and completely disposable. There are few Marvel films I dislike, but I have a hard time remembering many of them. Going into Infinity War, I heard several people bitching about pacing issues, too many characters, inconsistencies, whatever, but I found myself engaged from beginning to end. Honestly, any complaints I have are so minor they don't really warrant being brought up. This film delivers on what it promised, and it's mere existence is kind of a miracle.
@CertifiedHoodClassic06 жыл бұрын
You summed up my opinion completely, i agree a thousand percent!
@russiaatthemovies96166 жыл бұрын
Maybe I should've clarified more things. When I say forgettable, I don't necessarily mean that as an insult, I mean that they are largely interchangeable and follow a predictable formula. They can be quite enjoyable, but I'd be hard-pressed to remember them. Now, even when the movie itself isn't the most memorable, the characters are. I like every single one of these guys, because they have all been perfectly cast. They are fun to watch, and often they elevate the material they are in. I'm one of the few people who finds Iron Man 3 to be a blast, and that's mainly because of RDJ. That's why Infinity War worked for me, I liked the characters and I liked the story they were involved in. I don't think Civil War had any big payoff. Iron Man and Steve stopped being friends, sure... but, come on, everyone through their punches in that film. There weren't really any stakes, and seeing as I knew none of them were going to kill each other, it was hard to be invested. Sure, it's fun to see them all punch each other for a while, but that feeling passed pretty quickly.
@russiaatthemovies96166 жыл бұрын
MaxPower, the movie just didn't work for me. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I like the more jokey and lighthearted toned Marvel movies in the ilk of Spider-man Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, and Guardians 2 (even though pretty dark stuff happens in all those movies). So my issue with Civil War is that it is tonally wayyyyyyyyy too serious, which would be fine, if there were actual consequences to the action going on. The big airport fight scene feels so tonally out of place. It's goofy and fun, yes, but considering it's the main set-piece of the movie, there isn't a big payoff to it. Rhodes get's crippled, ok, but he's back in action in Infinity War. No one dies, nothing changes all that much other than Steve and Tony are mad at each other. I feel that the movie just wasn't fully committed to what it set out to do and held its punches. I'm not comparing Civil War to Mission Impossible or Die Hard, only to other movies within its same franchise.
@russiaatthemovies96166 жыл бұрын
Ok, so why it matters for me in Civil War, when it doesn't matter in James Bond or (insert franchise here) is because the entire conflict built around Civil War is to split up the Avengers and make them fight one another. That's good and fine, but what comes of that conflict? More than two hours are spent treating it like it's so traumatic and such a big deal, but it doesn't amount to all that much. When we see in the climatic centerpiece of the movie that "Oh, don't worry, they are only slightly angry at each other, they won't hurt each other that hard", well, it loses a lot of tension, the plot loses a lot of its weightiness, and I lose a lot of my interest. If Marvel is going to make a movie called CIVIL WAR, I expect to see brother fighting and killing brother, instead, what we get is "Captain America- An Inconvenient Conflict Where We Will All Be Friends Again Eventually. I don't want anyone to die, but, if the movie is going to present this "Civil War" as something serious and with wait, then it should show that their are consequences to these actions, and they should have given a reason for the characters to actually go after each other to the point of death. This almost happens during the Iron Man/Cap/Bucky fight, but that's in the last ten minutes of the movie, and then the movie just ends. If I haven't explained myself enough on why this movie doesn't work for me, then I really don't know what else to say. I mean, I'm clearly in the minority, most people who are Marvel fans really dig it, that's cool. I don't.
@russiaatthemovies96166 жыл бұрын
I feel like regardless of what answer I give, you will just keep going back to the James Bond thing. I've already said i don't want people to die, I just want SOMETHING. It just seems like a movie that has no reason to exist other than "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if all the Avengers fought each other?" And yeah, it would be cool, but I need a little more in my movies than just one cool fight scene. I find the entire conflict in Civil War devoid of anything. So, a character death couldn't have hurt. I really don't get what you're trying to do there with the James Bond thing. I know going in to a James Bond movie he isn't going to die, you don't watch those movies for that. You watch those movies for exotic locales, spy intrigue, James Bond doing James Bond shtick, and they work to varying degrees of success. I find Civil War tension-less, devoid of stakes, and boring. We're going in circles at this point. I think the movie sucks, you don't think the movie sucks, the world goes round.

This was one of the main things about the movie I didn't like. Ironman has always been one of my favorite marvel characters mainly because I think the engineering behind his suit is really cool and his powers always seems at least semi realistic. However as soon as he went all nano bots it souta put him into the group of alien tech. like peter quill has the nano tech mask which makes sense cause he is one of the more cosmic characters. The fact that his hoodie can turn into a suit of armor kinda killed the coolness factor for me.

I actually don't have a problem with the humour because if anything this movie needed humour more than any other Marvel movie. Otherwise it'd be an extremely bleak movie about an insane purple alien killing everyone you love. There's a tonal shift to be sure, but no one comes to watch a superhero movie to be depressed. (Except for Snyder fans) Besides, the sense of humour is very much in line with the one displayed by the rest of the Marvel movies, so there's no inconsistency there.

He won but at such a large cost but he can “finally rest and watch the sunrise on a grateful universe.” The music in that scene is amazing too. The farm scene, thor arrives in Wakanda, and “all that for a drop of blood” fight scene between Iron Man and Thanos are my favorite scenes in this movie.
@MrLuizilla6 жыл бұрын
I thought the humor in this movie was fine. There were two jokes I can remember that legit felt out of place, one being Drax's shtick after Peter and Gamora's kiss, and the other being the dwarf's unnecessary explanation after Thor says he'd only die "if it kills him", which by the way, was actually a really great line despite how dumb it is, it's the perfect amount of badass, stupid and cheesy that is the Marvel version of Thor.

"For instance, in the comics, one of the best scenes shows Cap standing up to Thanos even though he already has all the infinity stones but he doesn't give up." Oh boy, do I have some news for you.
@bonedog51302 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that Captain America is sort of hanging around all movie. I wish he was the "focus" of the good guy story this movie, cause i thought his intro was awesome (i LOVE the intro fight scene and his entrance behind the train) and I also LOVE the scene where he holds out on Thanos...Thanos even gives him a look like he doesn't understand his power or why he still fights. Even for all the shortcomings, Captain is my favorite in this movie!
@sirpsycho9862 жыл бұрын
The Cap scene right before the portals open in Endgame when he's standing in front of Thanos' whole army was the scene from the comics imo. The only thing that was missing was Cap saying the "if one man stands against you" line, which would have been really badass

Is everyone forgetting this is a Two-part story, we’re saying the formula has changed without even knowing what the story is yet. If you end any of the marvel movies at their climax they’re going to seem different.

You can still review book 1 without having read book 2 in a series.

TableWrens book one isn’t the same as part 1, different mediums. Never said you can’t review it, I said obviously it’ll ‘seem’ like a different formula but you can’t tell till the whole story is told.

They said they changed their mind on making it into 2 parts because they said Avengers 4 will be different. But I don't understand why because it seems like it really is just part 2 to infinity war

"If you end any marvel movies at their climax they're going to seem different" I don't think you understand how plot structures work. Literally every movie ends right after the climax. I mean sure you get some falling action stuff but that really doesn't change the plot that much. It just helps to make the film feel more complete.
@tylerchiudina98076 жыл бұрын
Like you said you can’t just jump into a huge crossover event. This is what makes infinity wars so great. We got to know these characters for 10 years worth of movies, similar to how you get to know the characters in comics.
@ashlatano81186 жыл бұрын
I watched this with a couple of friends and the ending with Thanos smiling at his victory and the credits started rolling in one of my friends said "What the f*ck was that!" I was honestly just a shocked. Because you never see a Marvel movie with the villain winning except for this one.
@santosic6 жыл бұрын
I've read comments from people that haven't really watched any Marvel movies but went to see Infinity War because of the glowing reviews... and came out actually liking the movie, and being able to actually follow the story they've never seen. They really did a good job with explaining the story so that even people who had no idea who any of these characters were would know what was going on and why Thanos getting those stones was a big deal. Really shows you how legendary the writing for this movie was. Definitely my favorite Marvel movie ever, so far.

For me Thanos stole the show in this movie. He is a good villain. I don't want go as far and say that he is on the same Level as Darth Vader or The Joker (except Jared Leto's Joker) but he was a really good villain. He is the best Marvel Villain for sure.

Black Panther had that one cool.line where he said that Wakanda will end in honor of dignity or something. Also, I really liked that part where Iron Man solo'ed Thanos. Thanos is the main reason of Stark's PTSD, and him confronting him sort of feels like him confronting his past.
@Dash2775 жыл бұрын
Really good points about Captain America. I have to admit I didnt notice it much until you mentioned it. Thanos: He was so well done. You can usually only have a bad guy win in a multi part story, Empire Strikes Back being the other obvious example. The world building all paid off in this movie. So many characters but it worked, villain wins but it worked, chemistry between characters worked. It was really impressive.

This movie got me into the MCU. It was the first Marvel Movie I ever actually watched and I still understood it pretty well. I didn't know much about the marvel universe except for the basics, this is Captain America, this is Iron Man, etc, etc. and a few clips on KZbin like the airport battle. It still did a decent job of explaining everything so even if this is your first or second MCU movie you can get a good grasp of the plot.

Fun video. I walked out of Infinity War a little stunned. Not just because a lot of characters died. A lot of characters died in X-Men 3 and the last Harry Potter book (and movie), but in those it felt like a stunt. It didn't feel like a story built around those losses: those deaths were just shoehorned in to raise the stakes. Infinity War treated its deaths with conviction. This is the story. This is what we're giving you. Now we're going to have to live with these losses.

I had two major gripes about the film. 1: The CG hulk face mixed with Bruce's just looked... weird. Yes, it's already a meme. 2: Gamora's sudden change from solemnity to taunting "nana nana boo boo" as a foreshadowing device right before her death was WAAAAAY too obvious. Heavy handed and clunky are good descriptors for that scene. Things I absolutely loved: the creativity with Tony's suit, the way my heart shattered when Sam Jackson didn't get to finish saying "motherfucker," THE FUCKING AXE made with real Teen Groot, and Peter Dinklage as a giant dwarf.

I remember watching the trailer and being legitimately excited and I never get excited for movie releases. Like EVER. And The Farm scene truly surprised me. I never would’ve thought they’d do that

I agree there may have been a touch too much comedy BUT I contextualized it and accepted it in my head by seeing it as the heroes unabashed confidence and bravado; given they've defeated every single villain they've faced off against I can't blame them and, once the last stone is obtained, all the comedy washes away. One of the scenes that got to me, prior to Spidey's vanishing, was when Cap is shouting "where did he go?" before the vanishing starts, they've never lost before and it hit fantastically in my eyes. I love your reviews, dude. Much respect, I'd also go 8 or 9/10
