The Jackson 5 became the Jacksons when they moved from Motown to CBS / Epic and Motown wouldn't relinquish the use of the Jackson 5 name. Also Jermaine didn't make the move to CBS and was replaced by younger brother Randy.

Exactly! They also got sued for 20 Million Dollars for leaving Motown Seven Months before their Contract ran out. It was 1975 and in 1981 they settled for $500.000.00. Jermaine stayed because he was married to Berry Gordy's Daughter Hazel. Also this was a very important Album. After their Two First Albums at Epic flopped called Going Places & Enjoy Yourself they asked Epicto allow them to do the Album themselves. This was a Top Ten Smash in 1979 which was the 10th Anniversary of "I Want You Back" released. In future years a Young Man named Will Young auditioned for a new UK Show called Pop Idol and he Won in 2001.

On the contrary, the brothers changed (shortened) their performance name to the Jackson's as a revolt to the actions and abuse they endured at the hands of father Joe. Then as the boys became older, they stepped up and rescued the youngest, Randy and the sisters. Unless it was formal, none of the nine kids had anything to do with Joe

His dad made him very insecure about his looks, would always make fun of him for having a big nose, saying things like “you look nothing like my child”, etc. Hearing things like that from you own father definitely stuck with him, which makes sense that’s just cruel to tell your child those things. There’s a lot behind his change in his appearance as he got older, for reasons that weren’t related to just pleasing himself. Health conditions such as his lupus damaged the skin around his nose, so that was mainly why his nose would change throughout the years. Most people think he wanted to be white, but he had vitiligo, which gave his skin white blotches and made his skin porcelain white, so he used bleaching creams to even it out, but not because he wanted to be white. It’s important most people know these things so they don’t just assume things that aren’t true.

You should check out the original, by the guy who wrote it, a Brit called (ironically) Mick Jackson!! No kidding, it was really written, & recorded originally by Mick Jackson, just before The Jacksons version came out!! 😲

There's a demo recording of the Jacksons doing their as yet to be recorded hit single "Shake your body down to the ground" with Randy on the piano and the rest harmonizing the vocal melody and they got their groove going so hard that they ended up in stitches laughing. And Randy quipping, "I'd like for the BeeGees to hear this shit!" They were on top of their game and they knew it.

No. The name changed because Motown wouldn't give up the rights to the name when they left Motown. Jermaine didn't leave the group, they left him because he didn't wanna leave Motown. Their new CBS deal was for 5 Jackson brothers so they added youngest brother Randy to replace Jermaine.

Micheal said his dad was Always giving him crap about how big his nose was. Which I think made him insecure about it. If I understand right he got the 1st surgery when he broke it from falling off the stage.

When the Jacksons left Motown records they couldn’t keep the name the Jackson five so they they are just the Jacksons plus Jermaine had left the group and randy joined the group. Motown owns the Jackson five name.
