@LB-rb7fs Agreed. I feel so bad for lawyers who are forced to represent terrible people because of how our justice system works. @@CinephileSanityTV I don't think you understand the legal part of this. I used to think this same thing too, but then you learn more about criminal defence, and in actuality if the defendant ends up with negligent representation you risk them being able to use it on appeal.. Which can result in them walking free or the victims never receiving justice because sentencing is forever delayed until there's a fair trial. Do you want this guy to walk? Do you want the victims to receive justice? Would you want to remotely risk that? Defence attorneys don't, they are there to uphold the rights of the defendant.. Especially in cases like this where even the defence attorney is disgusted by their client's actions. Barely anybody actually wants to represent serial pedophiles and serial killers, but what do you think happens if everyone turned them down..? Unfortunately as much as these defense attorneys go into the field because they're passionate about the criminal cases where their client is actually innocent, they end up having to deal with these sorts of cases too. You can't just pick and choose, especially not as a public defender. Just because a criminal has a defence counsel does not mean the defence counsel support what the criminal did, especially public defenders who are solely there to ensure their client's rights.

If you enjoy watching court cases, I'm sure you've heard attorneys say something like.. "this is my client's first offense". Judges can definitely use someone's backgrounds as a way of establishing a pattern of behavior &/or a defendants risk to the community. So yes, a judge will consider criminal history as a means of deciding which direction they should go when it comes to sentencing. A quick example.. if you've been charged with possession multiple times or you've been charged with several violent crimes.. the judge can-& should- impose a sentence based on the type of risk there is.. either to themselves, towards a certain individual, or the general public. They also look at ones background to see if they can follow the rules of probation or if they are likely to reoffend. Looking at someone's criminal history is much different than suggesting that this judge was off her rocker cuz she can't just throw sentencing guidelines to the wind because DB is already serving life sentences for other charges that have nothing to do with the charges in front of her.

When I need to focus at work, this trial is my go-to; I'm not sure I can truly explain why that is. One, I am in awe of the job Judge Darrow did. Two, in some small way, it makes me feel like I'm keeping the memory of the victims alive. Last, Brooks is the quintessential definition of a monster, a stupid sovereign citizen, and I love that none of his idiotic sovereign tactics worked. I hope that he sees some rightfully deserved justice and doesn't live to be an old man. I hope Erika P is doing well, she was heroic!!

He's only ever cried for himself, during the other trial he cried "because he found Jesus" after killing people out of pure anger and jealousy. Despicable

Why have sentencing for someone who's never getting out of prison for another case ? Waste of tax dollars.

I am exactly -42,000,000% sympathy for this a hole. What he did during his trial for killing all of those people was abhorrent. The climate itself didn’t make him a monster, and neither did his crime, but the way that he acted in court does. I’m surprised he’s been able to live this long and I hope it’s not much longer.
