A lot of the legal battle of court system, the chess match prosecutor vs defense, almost always a waste of tax payer dollars. The Derek Chauvin trial was how long? For a guy caught on video committing murder. But even the guilty have rights… this guy is ridiculous, but these are important rights in a normal case.

Yes go against states experts. You think she is just flipping coins and making these decisions. She’s trying to do what’s going to do the best job locking him up. So by doing something he doesn’t want like forcing a lawyer on him. After u find him guilty he is going to come back and say unfair trial didn’t get the representation he had a right to. Now ur banking that he can’t find a handful of sympathetic woke psychologist that would love to be the reason this guys trial is considered a mistrial and everything is thrown out. Think this judge is playing the long game.

I feel for the victims as well. I hope that this proceeding brings new legislation to address Personality Disorders as part of the legal analysis as to whether a person can represent themself. He may not be legally insane but he's clearly shown he does not have ability to comply with the rules of evidences, the rules of the court and administer his own defense. For the sake of all parties involved, it would be great if there was new law established that sets out criteria for psychological evaluations for a criminal defendant suffering from a personality disorder or disorders. I would love to know if there's any psychologists or psychiatrists would have any opinion on this.

I just don't believe other Judges would have the same patience she has or even handle it in such a friendly demeanour, not all Judges of course they aren't all the same but many I have observed. Not all are able to communicate as well or tolerate such behaviour and removing the defendant is as much a coping mechanism for them as it about the defendant disrespecting the court. 36:45 if the commentators on CourtTV would have been paying attention they would have heard the entire discussion and ruling that the judge gave regarding standby counsel. The public defenders office is prohibited by the administration committee that governs them from being able to act as standby counsel so the judge therefore can’t appoint them as standby counsel. It is not possible for him to be represented by standby counsel from the public defenders office and he doesn’t have an attorney of his own to act as one. He was reminded and advised of this ad nauseam at his hearing last week discussing his motion to dismiss his public defender and represent himself. It was made VERY clear what the risks were and he willingly went on with it. So there is no need to discuss the lack of standby counsel, he knew the risks and now he has to deal with it.

The judge did make it very, very clear that in the state of Wisconsin, when you decide to represent yourself, you not have the legal right to use the public defender office for stand by counsel. If he wanted stand by counsel, he would have had to consult a private attorney. She said that multiple times. The fact that he refused to listen was solely on him. She also made it perfectly clear that scratching out certain words on the forms to discharge his attorneys didn't bind her to a different contract.

Why is he trying to prolong this case. He's going to jail, for mowing down six ppl. Covid, or no Covid. This is simply ridiculous. Show some resemblance of remorse accept your fate and get on with doing your time bc no matter what foolery he displays, we all know the outcome, its just a matter of how long.

I thought the judge handled it pretty well. It was her court room not his. I don’t think she needed a standby council. She did it herself and she did a great job. How can a man that killed six people in injured 60 others be over her court no she handled her court well.

As a jail nurse, my experience is you can’t believe what the inmate says, almost never. This guy is a master manipulator. Has mental illness but retains competence, in my opinion. Hus claims of medical protocol etc could all be a lie, he may have had a rapid (antigen) test, and/or PCR test. If he is symptomatic he may be in quarantine protocol I which case he would not be allowed to attend court and court would be notified if even in real time. In CA we always do a rapid test, unless someone is required to have the more definitive PCR test, say for a transport to prison or state hospital. He’s in lock down due to high profile case, and protective custody. If he was confirmed positive on rapid test the court and everyone would be notified regardless of HIPPA due to safety concerns. If nothing else the custody officers, who would be informed and able to inform court if there is a high risk for any infection transmission. That would be the county and state health dept rules and OSHA. It would trump HIPPA if it puts others are at risk of contracting an infection from a defendant. They may or may not describe exact details of an infection. This would also be the case in TB, flu, MRSA, RSV, chicken pox, etc and high risk of contact, droplet or aerosol transmission of particular organism. They wouldn’t just let him walk into court if it wasn’t safe, medical would notify corrections/custody and they would follow the procedure to notify court. I think he’s lying about the whole thing. When judge finds out tomorrow, which she should be able with to, he may have face contempt charges due to lying to the court and filing a motion for adjournment while providing false information to support it.

She would have all the cause in the world to find him incompetent to represent himself. I’m all for a defendant doing so, especially the guilty ones, but this is ridiculous. Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to pay for this psycho to drag his victim’s suffering out so long. This nonsense should not be allowed.

Mr Brooks is not able to present himself in a court of law he's behavior is unacceptable and should be forced to let a Lawyer present him. Mr Brooks took six people's lives with his own actions, six death's and it's with his rotten attitude and self control actions and therefore he shouldn't be allowed to open his mouth in a court of law, a attorney is a desperately need in this case because he can't behave himself IMHO.

I understand it's been determined he's legally competent to stand trial having been evaluated by psychiatrists/psychologists as not insane. However, it is well documented and now we can all see, he suffers from one or more personality disorders . If a fundamental diagnostic criteria of any personality disorder is that it has to be so pervasive that it negatively impacts their own lives, why isn't it part of the state's legislation as it pertains to legal proceedings? Meaning, while they might be sane, the effect of their particular illness is that they can't help but adhere to strict constructs which affect their ability to, specifically in pertinent part, advocate for themselves. This man is not insane but he is clearly unable to control himself in a fashion that would allow him to a) conduct himself in an orderly fashion b) avoid negative social positioning c) handle his own defense. I worry that his behavior makes a mockery of the judicial system and undermines that seriousness of the crimes he has committed against those victims and their families. They don't deserve this. I think the judge is doing her very very best to administer a legal and fair proceeding, but she has to follow the law and this is clearly a loophole that needs to be addressed.
