There is a battle mode tho. Its one of the features that were added to make the Gamecube port standout from the Dreamcast original, and is the reason they added that to the title. What Im talking about is the whole new multiplayer section! Theres the racing mode, which has some battle-like elements, but even more specifically theres the mode where u can chose from a few mech-based characters to have a 1 vs 1 fight!

Fang the Sniper is originally from Sonic Triple Trouble on Game Gear as one of the antagonists, and he was also in Sonic drift 2. Sega planned on keeping him around, but it just didn't happen. Bean the Dynamite is a reference to Dynamite Dux, a beat em up by Sega AM2, which is the studio that developed Sonic the Fighters. He's based on Bin and Pin, the main characters of that game, and is allegedly the son of Bin, although Bin is a duck and Bean is a woodpecker so I'm not sure how that works. Bark the Polar Bear is an original creation for Sonic the Fighters, probably because they wanted a large and strong character for the roster. They appeared in the comics quite a while after, known as Team Hooligan, and had cameos in Sonic Mania.

@@HolyHadou Every sonic fan knows about them if you have been apart of the community for a while or just REALLY like sonic games. It's not uncommon knowledge really but I can see why some people don't know. I only know cause when I was younger I made it my mission to play every sonic game possible. I didn't succeed cause I couldn't get my hands on the japan exclusive arcade games. Anyway now YOU know and can tell people about it in future yeah? ;)

I actually know some of those characters.... The "dark sonic" thing was from the the tv show "sonic x" from an ep where sonic snapped and got really pissed and for some reason got this dark aura thing, and then I guess he got even worse right after that so he got even darker with white eyes. Whoever made that game didnt make it up, its an actual thing from the show xD. It didnt last long but it was in it. That show had some weird shit And shadic! It was from a fan animated thing from YEARS ago. that shit was on newgrounds! I remember it so well, it was this dbz inspired animation where all the voices were lines reused from the games and stuff. It was pretty awesome stuff back in the day xD And who doesnt know charmy the bee? He was in sonic heroes! I played the shit out of that game when I was a kid...

Sonic Battle is my favorite story in the entire Sonic franchise, but I have to make a hard disagree that Emerl’s death was unearned. The story teaches us about life. Life is short, and that’s why we must live life to the fullest. We grew up with Emerl. Sonic and friends raised them like their child. The game was about Emerl get stronger and learning the value of life. All those moments with Sonic and friends, was what made that death earned. And when Emerl finally died, I felt what Sonic and friends did. I cried because I helped make him stronger and become a fully grown robot. I can respect that you didn’t feel the same way, but I’m not gonna lie that when you said it was out of nowhere, it hurt my feelings.

loved the commentary on fg. and for your defense almost no mugen game is playable by a normal human being on the default cpu difficulty. I think there are fixes and maybe the easy difficulty is better but i remember that not by a great margin. I always play them with someone the cpu tends to spam projectiles and cheap attacks.

Adventure 1 had gammas story about him Turing good and dying at the end It also had the story of chaos wanting revenge on the world because the echidnas killed the chao Adventure 2 was about Gerald having his niece gunned down by military and shutting down his life’s work so he wants to destroy the world and in the end shadow also dies And just in general up until colors the games always had a darker tone than say mario so it’s not inconsistent with the rest of the franchise I feel people need to do more research on this seires before they talk about it

I want to touch up on that one part where you talked about Brain and Sonic with that comparison. Personally, I think this story for sonic battle best suits sonic since this is how sonic is at less for the most part in the Japanese version during those times while the American changes everything about him to be close with the kids while this sorta still kept that but added more to the faithful original version of him. I grew up with the sonic adventure games so I'm more into the dark tones the series can get (not talking about forces that game was a joke) and love how much depth they finally added to the American version in sonic battle hell in the Japanese version of Sonic X Tails would be seen swearing. Overall the reasoning for you maybe to feel like this isn't sonic in general but the bad adaptation of who he is.

That honor goes to one of my favorite Sega games NiGHTS into Dreams specifically Christmas NiGHTS where a playable sonic could be unlocked as one of the presents you get.

Deep Sonic Lore: Emerl's parts were used by Eggman after he exploded to make GEMERL which is the base for the boss machines in Sonic Advance 3 and in the true ending after Sonic and Eggman have to team up to beat it, Tails repairs the robot to be Cream's robot butler. And that was the last time Cream was relevant in Sonic games because Eggman can't beat Gemerl so he can't kidnap Vanilla or Cream SO SHRUG.

I think one of the dark Sonic forms you questioned was trying to go for Darkspine Sonic or was based on it. That is a form used in Sonic and the Secret Rings. Dark Sonic was from Sonic X. The one with blank eyes made me think it was just a badly colored pic for Darkspine Sonic. Likely the case because they had no art to use for an image. Not a lot of art or model rips exist for that form. And the real thing looks really cool and creepy. One of my favorite designs no one ever talks about.

As a still massive Sonic fan (that hates Sonic, it's a complicated relationship) I have to say that I am impressed with this review. Fang was technically only in _Sonic Triple Trouble,_ _Sonic the Fighters,_ and _Sonic Drift 2._ It took until _Sonic Mania_ until he showed up again, but that wasn't really him. So no, he was not common in the series by any stretch of the imagination. On the other hand, he did make numerous appearances both the Archie and Fleetway comics, so there's that at least.

Bean is a sorta-kinda reference to some other Sega game called Dynamite Dux, but Bean himself doesn't exist in it. I'm pretty sure Bark never existed before Fighters, and Fang was a weird secondary antagonist in Triple Trouble that only ever existed to be a boss in special stages. I can't blame people for not getting deep into Fighters, not only because it's so weird but because it barely existed at all before Gems Collection. I am legitimately curious how Battle would look being taken seriously in competitive. With and without kitted-out Emerl. On the 0.000% chance we ever see something like Battle again, I think i'd rather just get EXP after fights and you can just unlock any move you've "seen" with a point cost, and then the ultimate moves are unlocked from the last story. (as in, you can buy them at that point)
