He casually dropped once that his dad hated my mom and would only pretend to be nice to her to her face but would try to talk my dad out of the relationship claiming she was a shady, scheming person who was clearly only with him for his money. This shocked me to hear because my mom is precious cinnamon roll of a human that is kind and gentle and speaks fluent child so there really wasn't anything to hate about her. Dads answer for me was that evil people assume good people are the same as them but better at hiding it. Grandpa was a very bad man in life, being such a shit husband and father that he drove his wife to actually decide that being a divorced single mother of 4 children in the 70's was a better fate than staying married to him. I asked Grandma once when she was still alive why she ever married him in the first place and she told me that young love and different social beliefs regarding relationships made her blind to the risks and, once my dad was born, leaving was much harder. I'm eternally grateful to my step grandpa for being the father figure my dad had always wanted and needed. Yes, apologizing to a male friend for catcalling a woman is very similar to the approach: "What if she was your sister or your daughter?". It may create some sort of empathy for a second, but in the long run, it's still about ascribing "value" to a woman in relation to men... Well I don't have brothers and my dad is dead, so I guess I'm fair game then? It's always bothered me.
@lukasr58678 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say "what if she was your sister/daughter?" is about ascribing value to a woman in relation to men. It's about giving those men another point of view at women. When somebody is disappointed at having a daughter over having a son, they are the problem, not the child. If you stop imposing traditionally feminine traits on a child and let them develop who they are, they might just become someone you can play videogames or sports with, because a lot of girls love playing videogames and sports. Imo, the reason why women have standards and not men (in some cases, not trying to say every man sees women as just holes, just those in these posts), is because these guys think they can mold the woman to be what they want. They'll say "my only standard is..." then in the relationship you realise just how much more they ask for, because either they think that it's natural, shouldn't even need to be said in the expectations for the relationship, or because they think they can impose it to you because they're the man so they chose.

For some reason a lot of people (mostly men) got mad at the girl defending her friend, again who was very clearly drunk and not entirely there, and mocked her relentlessly. Not only is it weird to try and ask out a girl who is not sober, but its also weird to mock the girl keeping her safe. Edit, for the record, think its weird to try and do that to anyone who is drunk. Especially when their friend is telling you to back off while you try to ignore them.

10:01 - 20:42 This is triggering for me, as I was in a controlling relationship with my ex boyfriend in the early ‘00s. In the late mid to late ‘00s, I opened up about the depression I was experiencing from parents divorce as well as the 10 anniversary of my beloved family member’s passing, and that I wasn’t happy to be in the friendship anymore and wanted out to my ex male friend who was narcissistic and he exploited my vulnerability and trauma, and abandoned me when I needed support the most, hence the emotional and mental abuse. He even blamed me for the friendship dying and making his life hell, when it was him who abused (emotionally, mentally, verbally, and sexually) me, (same with my ex female acquaintance who also verbally, emotionally, and mentally abused me) and left me traumatized for years. My heart breaks for this poor woman, I pray she gets out of that relationship. I’m so sorry you and others have suffered through similar situations to this, Cliccy.

It's so weird to me how some guys can be disgusting towards a woman and then apologise to a man. They're not sorry for what they did, just that a man saw it. This reminds me of when I was at a festival and I wore a skirt (as a dude with long hair) and some guy behind me groped my ass and said something inappropriate and disgusting. And I was terrified at first and then turned around like wtf, dude? And his nasty smile faded and he seemed shocked and said: "Oh, sorry, I thought you were a woman." That was even more terrifying, cause he really thinks it would be ok to do this to a woman. He only felt sorry cause he harassed me instead of a woman, which is disgusting. (I'm still wearing skirts and that was the first time this happened; by far not the last. But every time I'm kinda glad those shitheads touch me instead of a woman. And maybe the shock of harassing a man will stop them for some time.) I'd also like to add that every guy offers to buy some beer for me as an apology. And because I don't drink, I make them buy beer for my friends (and sometimes I say that some strangers are my friends to get those shitheads to spend more money)

That mom commodifying her daughter for her future partner by "protecting her virginity" or whatever, my parents did that to me. They joined a Christian fundamentalist cult when I was 6, and I was homeschooled my entire life. My siblings and I were extremely isolated, partially starved, and physically, emotionally, and psychologically abused. I was low-key arrange-married when I was 19 to an abusive man who was also homeschooled and raised in the cult (though he wasn't as isolated as my siblings and I were). Fortunately for me, I left the cult after 16 years, and left him shortly before our 3rd year anniversary. I am surprised that I can function and socialize as well as I do. After divorcing him, I had to go completely no contact with my family (including my siblings) because interacting with them was, and still is, too triggering for my mental health. I don't want to imply that this mom is abusive to the same horrible degree my parents were. However, from my experience as a "sheltered" kid, I think it's so important that parents both protect their kids while allowing them room to breathe. If you hold them too close, they might not want to be in your embrace ever again once they have the opportunity to live on their own. Moderation is the key.

@@Atlessa As boys go through male puberty, their muscles and bones get denser. As a result, they grow stronger overall. The result is many things like sports boys will out compete girls on. You can see this in track records. It doesn't mean a girl can't compete in sports, but she can not 100% compete on the same level as boys. This is where the gender seperation begins and why girls cannot do everything a boy can do As someone who found out the hard way how strong men were the day my brother strangled me without warning, there is no way a girl can compete. Boys are also more likely, though not 100% certain, to share "male interests" (though not certain).
