Hi everyone, I wish you all a very happy 2023! I've been away for a little while celebrating the holidays, but I've been working on this tutorial during the time off. I read your comments and take your suggestions very seriously.
So, here's a tutorial on how to use the new hair system combined with geometry nodes to create realistic hair systems! To help you save the time of creating your own geometry node hair setups, I added my .blend hair system file on Gumroad that you can download for free. It contains the Geometry Node setups that you can use to customize your hair systems quickly and easily! Hope that helps :)

Just wondering if using this system on a character (potentially two characters in same scene) will make my render time go up exponentially? Is there a way to bake it or something to make it quicker once you have the hair modeled the way you like?

has anyone been able to get their hair systems to work with shape keys? It looks like it works well with rigs, but I usually rig my characters face's with shape keys and those dont seem to work for the mesh deform modifiers

This is great! Yet I still struggle with making the ends of straight hair look natural. Maybe there is a need for a slider to decrease the uniformity in hairs' lengths and introduce some more randomizaion at varying depths into the lengths. Otherwise, when the lengths are even (or a even slightly too uniform) they start looking like a "clamped toothbrush" of a sort at the tips.

I have a question/ request: I am working on my character and I realized that after creating and combing some hair, I would need more smothing hairs/strands, because I got lack of control points. the question is, once I 've created my strand, how can I increase the control points in order to avoid these long straitght segments ? Is it possible to add a GeoNodes modifier in the stack in which I can increase the number of control points to my strands? thanks in advance.

5:03 When I use the density brush my hair always appear very short....shorter than the hair I added with the add brush and so far I can't seem to find a way to make them of equal length. What do I do to fix this?
@NinoDefoq
@NinoDefoq Жыл бұрын
There is an option at the top when you are in the density setting that should say something like "shape". Click it and then you can select length. That will make the new hairs match the length of the existing hairs.

Now how do you animate this new awesome do so it behaves like particle hair?
@NinoDefoq
@NinoDefoq Жыл бұрын
Easiest way is to convert the hair systems into a particle system once you're finished with the geometry nodes. Apply the geometry nodes and go to the hair sculpt mode, and convert it to a particle system there. You can then proceed to do how you usually do it with particle systems!

Great video, really helpful. Do you know of a way to create sub clumping? For example, having clumps within clumps using geometry nodes. The only way I have seen is using 1 clump per guide which isnt ideal as it requires a tone of guide curves to get something looking natural. Thanks!
@NinoDefoq
@NinoDefoq 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean, do you have an image example I can check out? :)
@npj5578
@npj5578 2 жыл бұрын
Basically as it stands. You can only have 1 clump per guide. But it would be nice if you could add layers of clumping and dictate the frequency with a slider regardless of hair guides. You could then layer it up so you have say large clumps, followed by fine clumps. It just makes grooming much easier not having to hand sculpt so many guides.

You can use Resample Curve nodes to change the resolution of the curves. To change the resolution of the circle of a hair strand you can check out node groups that are connected to the profile section of the curve to mesh node

@NinoDefoq
@NinoDefoq 2 жыл бұрын
What kind of animation are you looking for? You can select your hair, go to convert and convert it to a particle system. Then you can enable hair dynamics in the hair particle system and have it flow with your animation.

What type of gpu is recommended to run these nodes?
@NinoDefoq
@NinoDefoq 2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a strong suggestion as handling instances will use a combination of RAM, CPU and GPU. You can check out opendata.blender.org/ to find GPU benchmarks for Blender. www.cgdirector.com/blender-system-requirements/ Shows some minimum and recommended requirements and I'd have to agree that 4gb of VRAM is needed for a lot. I'm running 8gb vram myself in a NVIDIA GeForce 3070, but for a hair system like this that's quite overkill nonetheless. Hope that helps!
