This sort of person was so frustrating in school. They refused to believe anything they could not understand. _Never mind that the teacher understands it, and other students understand it, if _*_I_*_ don't understand it, I won't accept its truth._ I had a teacher who once admonished someone like this, "The truth does not require your understanding." It's a phrase I always try to remember as I learn new things. My ability to understand doesn't define truth.

I wouldn't rule out a celestial being beyond our imagination but it certainly wasn't an immoral thug who knows everything but doesn't know lots of things, who is all powerful but can't defeat iron chariots, who spends all day watching what people do with their genitals. Religion was and is a salve for the fear of the death of existence, not the fear of the end of life. Cogito sum is a not just a blessing, but a curse. If you think that once you die that's it, everything ends, a lot of people will despair, they will seek to ratify a reason for their mind, their existence to go on. Inherently religion at it's birth was not bad, but like everything humans create, it can be warped and abused. Think of it like the hammer. You made it as a tool to help you build, but someone found that it can easily be used as a weapon to kill.

I love his argument that "Truth is only what we can show in reality." The problem with this is he's dealing with two theories for the creation of the Universe, one that he believes in. If this statement were true, the origin of the Universe would have to actually be a third option because that line of reasoning eliminates not just The Big Bang, but every Universe origin story in every religion there ever was, including his own.

Well God can operate outside of the laws of physics, that's how Matt Powell can set a starting point to something science can't. God was always there somehow and he just decided to snap with his fingers and create earth and humans. Oh and an entire universe. For whatever reason. So by clinging to the term "god" people can explain things that cannot be explained. How and why did the Big Bang happen? Hard to answer. At least for a scientist. Not so for a Christian. Because God can act outside of the laws of physics and by that we can explain absolutely everything. Or can we?

This is why the god concept is useless for science. Take for example electrolysis. You can say god... and what do you know now? Dan. I have to give absolute respect for your listening to people like Matt Bowel on a regular basis. I spent years studying Earth and related sciences and Bowel brushes aside all evidence with a nonchalance that makes me wish he could present his views to the people I had to submit my work to. Tony Barber (Structural and Metamorphic Geology) would have crucified him with pure sarcasm. I would have enjoyed watching.

It would be a fun idea, but I think it should be an invisible channel, but I firmly believe it already exists. How else would Dan know about the banana?
