I’ve been so excited for this review! The highs for Creed are so emotionally high for me that I don’t care about the lows. I was in tears when Donnie says “I have to prove it” “I’m not a mistake”. Cheering after the rocky speech and knocking him down. And I run all the time with Fighting Stronger/Lord Knows. This movie left such a huge mark on me.

This is the film that got me into the Rocky Series. Michael B Jordan became a Star due to this role and Ryan Coogler made a name for himself as a Director with this film.

James Bond films fit that criteria I think at least one film a decade; I forget if the time between the last Pierce and first Daniel disqualifies Bond though.

Creed's understanding of Blackness easily puts this film at the top for me. I agree with Tim on that montage. To be honest I was worried about the relatability of this film with this panel. Most of it y'all nailed, but yeah that montage is pure epic motivation of a whole culture. So there's that. Rocky 1 through 6 is nowhere near the level of the Creed trilogy for a specific amount of people. So there's that

25:50 oh i took that as him boxing his father, copying rockys moves, because he doesnt want to just be his father. Also the taps on the neck at the end wasnt rocky, it was the cut guy working on his other eye while holding the back of his neck.

Hearing that quote about father and son relationships evolving over time from Stallone hits so hard considering how he lost his only son in real life. That devastated him and his family. I’m curious if he talks about it in his new reality show?

Star Wars did have a movie every decade. Episode 1 came out in 1999. 007 had a movie every decade since the 60s. Pink Panther had a movie every decade from the 60s to the 00s.

Creed is not number 1 form me. Rocky 1 and 2 are still more important when it comes to film making. But Creed shows how to be respectful when it comes to doing a sequel to a movie of a franchise that passes it to a different character.
@arodz21 Жыл бұрын
I always thought of this movie as 'The Force Awakens' of the Rocky franchise. This is a soft reboot of the original Rocky, done for a modern audience. A small time club fighter given a shot at the title only because of his name, seeking help from a broken down ex-fighter who's reluctant to help him. Meanwhile, he meets the love of his life in a whirlwind romance, that gives him the motivation to keep fighting. Only to lose the fight by split decision but putting up a great fight and proving to himself that he's not a nobody. I'm not saying this movie is bad...not at all. I think it's quite good. But when you're remaking a movie that was a best picture winner, you have great source material right off the bat. Now the direction was great and the performances were great. But if we're being honest, this is the seventh Rocky movie and we are not breaking any new ground here. It's very formulaic.
@Tallahassee21 Жыл бұрын
Really? Of all the comparisons you could've made like idk TOP GUN Maverick, you compared it to the force awakens?
@arodz21 Жыл бұрын
@@Tallahassee21 Yes, again because it's a soft reboot of 1976 Rocky. Just like Force Awakens was a soft reboot of A New Hope.
@Tallahassee21 Жыл бұрын
@@arodz21 wasn't top gun maverick a soft reboot of top gun?
@arodz21 Жыл бұрын
@@Tallahassee21 Not one bit. Maverick is just a direct sequel. Story lines don't match at all. First Top Gun didn't have an actual plot. It was just telling the personal story of these pilots. Maverick has a mission right from the start.

I was so surprised by how good this was when I saw it. I was so afraid it was going to be what the second film turned into: a predictable rote Rocky fan fiction with Adonis fighting the child of Drago. I don’t hate the second but this film was as good and seminal to the franchise as the original Rocky was. This film made Coogler and Goransson two of my favorite directors and composers ever.
