The reason wire manufacturers have no idea what a minimum bending radius is is because it's a hydraulic concept. This cabling seems to work for hydraulic routing as well. The minimum bending radius is extremely important for hydraulics. Either way, superb video!
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy Жыл бұрын
Not just for hydraulics. I’ve been in many vehicle builds where we couldn’t route cable harnesses because we couldn’t get them around corners or through a 90 degree bend from a connector to its path. MBR is difficult for them because they have multiple suppliers for their raw materials.

Hey Dave! Your videos are so important for the experience I have gained in the past year. Thank you for that. A question though, I have a cable that is longer that what the CAD will route. I am wanting to coil the cable to show the exact length, what is the best way to go about that??
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 5 ай бұрын
You can use the Fix Length command if you know how long the cable should be. I add coils to the cable by adding locations that force the cable to go around in a loop.

Thanks for the demo. I used this video to introduce wiring into my Arduino model for the first time, and missed some basic definitions. The video itself is easy to follow and copy , but it's hard to find the true meaning of harness vs. spool vs wire. I will try and find out !
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 5 жыл бұрын
A harness is a part file in Creo that contains wires, cables, and routing information. A spool defines the properties of the wires and cables you route, like thickness, color, and bend radius. A wire is a single conductor of electricity. A cable consists of multiple wires.

Hello, Mr. Martin. I want to start by saying thank you for all of your videos, they are incredibly helpful! A question regarding cabling: Is it possible to make 2d drawings in Creo Parametric with dimensions, i.e. radii, lengths etc. from harness/spools created in the cabling application? Or would you need to use creo schematics for that? My company currently uses sweeps to represent all of their cabling and I'm trying to find a better, more efficient way to create cables and still be able to make a parametric drawing of them. Any help and or information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The problem with this method are the dependencies it can create in parent assemblies. Updates on the cable often require updates on the assembly so can be time consuming through a config management point of few.
@CADPLMGuy

For a simple assembly like this, it's not an issue. Please see my other cabling videos where I use Skeletons and Data Sharing Features to manage references. Also see my video on the Shrinkwrap feature where I cover Manual Collection. The point of this video was to show the basics of manual cabling, and not to get into a full blown discussion of managing references.

Is there possibility to draw lines represent the path of the wire from to and then draw cross section of each wire (this cross section will be the circle of wire as a conductor surrounded by the insulator )want to route and then by doing extrusion command to extrude the cross section you draw through the paths you draw already.and repeat this for every wire then including them within a kind of sleeving to draw harness. @@CADPLMGuy I could, but that wouldn't be ideal. I assume I cant add an entry point datum in the same assembly as where the cable is installed. The datum would just be higher up the model tree than the cable. I tried doing it but was having issues, it wouldnt let me select that specific datum.

Good stuff. Fusion 360 can design PCB using Eagle. Can Creo design PCB?
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I've seen most companies use industry-leading ECAD software like Altium or OrCAD and then bring the necessary information into Creo via IDF or IDX. I think PTC made the right decision not to compete in the PCB design space when that's not their wheelhouse.
@tanleproe

@@CADPLMGuy Good to know. I'll focus on Eagle PCB, which has been around for almost 30 years.

@tanleproe 3 жыл бұрын
@@CADPLMGuy For PCB add-on, Solidworks uses Altium and Fusion 360 uses Eagle. What Creo will use for their PCB module in the next 5 years would determine their IoT direction, I think. By the way, the Raspberry Pi has joined the microcontroller industry -- their new Pico board (many pinouts) looks promising. Enjoy designing complex PCB with Fusion 360.
