In today's episode of Dungeons and Dragons Horror Stories, we have a tale of a player that could be a contender of the most creepy, cringey, horrible person ever, a story of a DM and Player that makes highly offensive jokes and comments, and a tale of a Westmarch server, where the admin DMs plot to destroy player characters for being "too powerful"

Massive age gaps in game groups can become a real problem. The workable difference grows as you age but I am 37 and there is no way I would play with a 17 year old unless they were family and it was a family game.

If you don't want characters at level 12 or higher, just say you have to retire any character that makes it to level 12 and offer to make them NPCs if the player consents. What the fuck is the matter with those referees?

The second story....no this isn't about OP's comment about Apu, and I'm kinda surprised so many people latched on to that given the fact this DM was a blatant racist and misogynist from the jump and the OP just kept playing with them? Why? You had to know what he was about right? I am with you Doge, but even with the age difference, I can't imagine that this dude heard those villains' names, saw how female NPCs were treated, trashing a "friend" that had depression, etc. and didn't see the problem until it affected him in a major way with his own game. Sorry if this sounds cynical, but OP should have gotten out WAY before it got to this point and the fact they didn't does paint them in a bit of a negative light.

That story just had me thinking, "This is made up for attention." Seriously, if you meet someone and they just randomly spout out every stereotype you can imagine right away, why would you be sticking around them at all? It didn't take long to be questioning the OP because their involvement made no sense given how they want to portray themselves as seriously offended here. Couple that with the fact that a "bunch of people turned on them" at the end, and it sounds like someone trying to retell a story and paint someone as awful as possible in order to make themselves look better. But in repainting that person, they don't realize how bad they're making themselves look. "So I met this person and they did every racist or racist sounding thing ever that I can think of and also I'll throw Trump in there for some reason, and then I decided to keep hanging out with them..." I think it's just OP making up BS about people after those people realized they were a crummy person and ditched them. As they say, if you're having a problem with everyone else, at some point you have to consider that you're the problem.

Nah literally. Like the DM finds out this person isn't white and immediately makes extremely racist characters and OPs just like "well what can you do??" Like get away. Leave, grow a backbone and respect yourself. There's DMs out there that aren't racist, mysognist,, and just all around terrible

How the fuck could those people in story 1 justify not kicking that guy out of the server? Knowingly hitting on children isnt the sort of shit that should ever just be overlooked. Like are they seriously more concerned with the prospect of him cheating than him committing a sin so grievous even contract killers will judge you for it?

Not a horror story, but very well. Since you asked. I joined a Curse of Strahd campaign on Roll20 not too long ago. I LOVE dark fantasy, and have heard nothing but good things about the module, so I was eager to join. I was accepted, and dropped outside Argynvostholt with the rest of the party. The combat was challenging, but the Roll20 post had said as much, so no big deal. We got a plot hook about corrupted undead knights. Next session we spent most of our time running away from revenants that were way too strong for us (we were level 3), a fact that the DM neglected to tell me before I had cast sacred flame on a revenant who had qggro'd the party after half of us failed a stealth roll. The revenants had two attacks each, and took a chunk out of anyone they hit. Our Barbarian nearly died, and my cleric was down to 18 HP thanks to pure luck and a feat light clerics get that causes disadvantage on attack rolls. We escape Argynvostholt in one piece, and go to rendezvous with Vasili and Ireena at some noble's house. Our triumphant return from a defiled death trap was a lot of "You are told this, Vasili says that, he/she explains this to you, at this point in the game, you..." We don't get to interact in any meaningful way with Vasili or Ireena; she barely gives us a second glance before she's escorted away by Vasili, with nothing more than a dull explanation about how she seems to admire him, and he seems to be snorted with her. Don't misunderstand. The DM and the guys I play with seem really cool. And each session is only about 2 hours long, so maybe DM can't get as narratively focused as he would like. But I know for a fact there are DMs who can balance combat, exploration and roleplay in two hours. I want to *Play* the narrative of Curse of Strahd, not participate in an interactive wikipedia summery of Curse of Strahd. I went back to look for games and will be starting one in. Week or so. Hopefully that will be better.

"... minority characters being as deep as Apu from The Simpsons." Oh, does OP mean Apu, the character that's been so hypocritically misaligned from the "concerned" that he just had to go away? The character that was a successful hardworking business man, a community leader and volunteer firefighter? The character whose heritage and culture shone through in so many ways, yet he was an avid american patriot? Ah but no, he had a funny sounding voice and was played by a person of "wrong" skin, so any depth he had is moot. The people who point at Apu as a problem never bothered to see Apu for the character he was, and they are more of a problem than he ever could be. Any lake seems puddle deep if all you do is look at it. The rest of OP's story sounds like just that, a "story."

Would it make me a bad person if I just didn't allow players to relationships in game because that can lead to problems like in story 1? I find it odd anyway, because games like d&d deal more with going into forgotten ruins to find treasure, or dealing with monsters and less about dealing with romantic relationships. And having the potential for out of game things to ruin friendships because two characters with each other is not very good. I'm not saying couples shouldn't play or people can't find someone while playing. Nor am I saying don't do it. I just want people to treat the party as there a group of professionals having a relationships and families outside of the group of people the decided to go kill a dragon with.

*Story 1.* It's always great when the trash takes itself out. Glad that Bard is in a better relationship, and everyone put a stop to it fast. *Story 2.* OP should've jumped out when the DM made MAGAman. Sounds like your typical racist That Guy who has to be the best person in the campaign. *Story 3.* Yeah nothing more to say than what you already said. If you can't run adventures for level 11 characters (which isn't even that hard like, really?) just tell the players to put those characters on pause. That's literally the point of Westmarches servers.

White ppl in the comments getting defensive over the brown dude criticizing Apu is very telling, Apu had good development but dude was not ALWAYS a well-developed character and racial stereotypes stick with you when you're a person of color. Especially considering, unlike White people, we don't get a plethora of characters to choose from so we tend be more critical of the tokens we DO get. I suggest y'all watch "The Problem with Apu" and listen to actual brown ppl instead of getting in your feelings about someone criticizing a show/character you like because your white guilt is flaring up. Also, Doge, you agreeing w/ ppl in the comments is the real bad take here buddy.
