@@wp2312 before going vegan he was told to stop fiber, fruits with seeds, acidic fruits, nuts and grits. Now he has loads of fiber, everyday he has a pint of smoothie, with 20g flaxseed, 15g milled chia, strawberries, apple, banana, mixed berries and lemon. There are seeds and skin from the fruits left in the smoothie even after blending it. Then he normally has a veg soup that I make. Sweet potato, potatoes, leak, chickpeas, onions, carrots, garlic, peas, spinach and kale. Since he stopped the meat , dairy and eggs hes like a new man.

This man has saved so many lives. He deserves a Nobel prize. When I switched to a whole food plant based diet at 58 years old I knew that what this man is saying is true. At 71 years old now I am healthier than I was at 30 years old. No pain and no pills. It is so sad that that more doctors are not trained in this knowledge.

It’s great to read all of the comments from people who have experienced life changing health benefits. I too, have turned my health around radically by simply eating starch/whole-food/plant based. No animal products, no processed foods, dairy or added sugars. What a game changer this has been for me. Lower heart rate & blood pressure, no more pains, sustainable weight loss, no cravings, more energy, sleeping better and generally feeling great. This should be taught to all front line general practitioners around the globe.

Wow, I wanted to become an RN at one time. I worked a Candy Striper and a CNA. I saw what the nurses did. They passed meds and charted about it all shift. I had to report any ill effects for the nurses. The residents suffered with different side effects, even nausea or vomiting and I also had to let the next shift know. Some of the residents even refused to take their meds because of how they made them feel and they weren't all dementia residents. So I decided to stay a CNA/HHA/PTC, helping care for the residents and trying to keep them comfortable after the meds. Thanks again doctor for the book and the video.

I really got into vegetable gardening, including over 200 containers of potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, cabbages, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bok choy, baby bokchoy, peppers, daikon, carrots, turnips, garlic, onions… Plus about 30 deep water hydroponic containers in my garage-to give myself access to the absolute freshest fruits and vegetables year round. Going vegan has been great for me. I sleep better, and I have have more energy. And I lost 50 lbs and stopped taking diabetes pills over the past five years. My doctor was amazed. He told me the fatty deposits in my liver were gone. He said he warned many of his overweight patients they were killing theirselves with bad diets but they just didn’t seem to care. I made him feel he was getting through to at least some patients.

Depends on your genes. Vitamin D is metabolised in three different stages. Depending on how close your genes are to the equator, the second and third stages of the metabolism vary in efficiency. If your ancestors lived near the equator, you will not make Vitamin D very effectively. Dark skin in Canada? A ship wreck without supplimentation. Northern genes + supplementation? Long term toxicity.

The guy had me in the first half. To recommend grain is not bad in principle, oil is not needed by humans, but humans need nutrients. And to demonize food supplements is guaranteed the wrong approach to a vegan diet. Vitamin D no longer causes bone fractures, the test subjects were all old and received over 100,000 Iu (if I remember correctly) in one shot. This gave them such a surge of energy in the next few days that they went out much more and thus had statistically more accidents. But the vitamin d per se was not responsible for that. Dr. Greger has analyzed this study. It is true that one should not take vitamin a, e, beta carotene as a food supplement but a solid dose of about 3-5k iu of vitamin d and at least 50mcg of methylcobalamin should be taken by every vegan. In addition, according to his diet, there will eventually be problems with calcium, zinc and vitamin e. You need nuts for a balanced vegan diet, not only if you want to gain weight. You can certainly live for a year, but at some point the body has no strength without the missing minerals and vitamins.

I see nothing but a bunch of pudgy meat eaters calling Mcdougall emaciated in the comments section. I am on Mcdougall's diet 4+ years. I did it to lower cholesterol because the 'no sugar' thing didn't work for cholesterol being a bit over 200 mg/dl. Well, Mcdougall's diet did work. cholesterol dropped to 125 mg/dl (ideal), blood pressure is normal after coming off blood pressure medication. Resting heart rate that was also controlled by the blood pressure med came down to 73 beats per minute. I lost 50 lbs FOUR YEARS AGO and kept it all off. Mcdougall is my hero. I am fit, healthy and hardy and will be until my 90s.
