For my part, I'm not willing to believe that Kathleen Kennedy's decisions were not of a malicious nature. If she were merely an out-of-touch businessperson trying to appeal to popular trends, you would think the backlash would have altered her creative strategy prior to, say, her attempt to gut the legacy of Indiana Jones.

It’s really hard to say they are making a direct parody, because they create a fictional character, but in reality everybody knows exactly what they’re saying, because everybody’s thinking it. I'm not even mentioning the episode in which Ncuti has a black savior complex that gets (rightfully) rejected by actual racists. A message delivered by a white woman, before Ncuti throws his little fit about being rejected as their black savior. The alternative reality Cartman/Kennedy wasn't done to shift blame just in case, it was meant to be a fusion of Cartman and Kennedy, as Kennedy's poor choices and Cartman's vitriolic letters had created the cycle of hate that had reduced the Disney movies into the garbage that they have become. The Cartman/Kennedy was a gestalt of the worst of both sides.

But we know how it happened in reality, so there is no other point than shift blame

South Park was way off on that. The vitriolic letters never would have happened if KK hadn't done what she did in the first place, there is no 'oh but she means well', she was always a duplicitous snake in the grass, the idea of both sides being to blame is not how the reality bares out. No matter how over the top some people have been, fan action is not responsible for where we are now, It ALL began with KK and to even consider otherways is shifting the blame.
@schrodingerscat1863 Жыл бұрын
It was an excuse to be able to show the true KK with all her DEI activism and as a total control freak. Without doing it the way they did it could have given KK's team cause to think they had a case against Matt and Tray, not that it would have been successful but better not to have it at all.
@William-the-Guy Жыл бұрын
True. In the episode, the "real" Kathleen Kennedy is actually a good person, all the negative things were done by a version of her from an alternate universe. If Kennedy tries to sue them for THAT she will look ridiculuous.

As someone who's raising chickens right now, the antics of those birds is more entertaining than anything Disney has put out in years. If they literally "put a chick in it" it may actually improve the quality of their movies.
@jaklumen Жыл бұрын
Raising any fowl at all seems quite satisfying, at least by the people I've observed and talked to. But wittily noting that "chick" comes from "chicken" and once referred to children generally before it started referring to young women. Well played, sir. As long as it is never conflated with "chicken lover", for Disney has had real trouble with them, especially in Florida. Y'know, the bad kiddie fiddle diddle types.

The creators of South Park are masters at making their content impossible to sue (successfully). Cartman Kennedy is a perfect cover to allow them to claim (truthfully) that they were only satirising her/Disney as opposed to the episode being blatant slander. It's a necessary evil to get their point across without making them liable.

Matt and Trey may have waited till it was safe but they are the ones who FINALLY said the quiet part out loud.
@kri249 Жыл бұрын
I'll give Matt & Trey some credit. It may not so much be that this episode has come out now because it's safe. It could just be they've caught onto it now. Or they waited for Disneys reputation of "putting chicks in it and making it gay" became solid enough they couldn't escape it. I mean, it wouldn't age well to call Disney out on it after the first few times they did it and there was still potential to put things back on track. At that time only youtube critics caught onto it and were worried if the trend was going to continue. Now, Disney can't deny it at this point because they've tanked all their properties and have a whole library of modern films with chicks and gay in them as evidence of it. So I think the safety of this South Park episode wasn't in Disneys retaliation but in the assurance of its claims.

True, she does have a boss and it's Bob Iger. His actions do show that he supports what she's doing. There was a point several years back where people thought he was going to get rid of her. Channels like Midnight's edge talked about it consistently and at several points over the years kept bringing back that she may get fired soon even though it never happened when they tried predicting it. It got bad enough were people in the comments started lambasting the channel for always talking about he she was going to get fired but it never becoming a reality.

Matt and Trey can be kind of pussies when it comes to this stuff. They try to play both sides and remain centrist. In a way it's genius to do so, but they can be too soft. They'll throw bones to both sides. That "railing on woke shit all the time is kinda lame too" line Cartman said was to pander to SJW's to make them think the episode was on "their" side. I feel like M&T hate this stuff as much as us, but if they go too hard they'll cause "too much" controversy and it will affect their ratings. Which is hilarious considering what they've already put out in the past.
