Thx for this. Fairly new to crochet...I was frustrated at my "bowl" shaped square until I realized I was only doing 3 stitches per corner instead of 6 haha! My goal is your granny square cardigan/jacket. Can't wait!!

You are totally right. I love the granny squares, but I never liked the corners, they are too loose, I´ll start to put only one stitch in. Thanks But I do not use the needle for the ends I just work them in, it is less time and more secure for washing the Afghan.

I made a granny square Afghan for my husband using the magic ring method for the centers, and a couple of the squares of have come loose, with holes in the center which I need to repair (some day, lol!). I’m not sure why. I may have done them incorrectly but I don’t trust the magic ring now for things that will get a lot of use or that will need to be laundered at some point. I like to use it for other things, though, especially for fine yarns or thread work where you don’t want that lump.

G'day Sherrie Livingston thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. So sorry to hear about your squares coming undone. I do have a video on one that I had to fix. It is not a traditional granny square but it should help you kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWW0gquhptWgq9E

I loved your video and it was very helpful but there were a few spots I didn't know what to do because I was using one color. Like the third row I didn't know how to get to the corner with my one color.

oh Clare you make it look so easy! my squares are all uneven and yours are straight and look normal or as they should. Is this from you having done crochet all this time or is it something I am doing wrong. Tension I would think is the answer, love to watch your videos, sometimes several times in order to "get it" thanks

Hi Clare, can you tell me what size/type of wool you use for this granny square ? I don't know anything about sizing and weight etc, but I like the look of the wool you use in your tutorials when you make granny squares, because your finished product looks great. Thanks heaps....

I use Red Heart Super Saver yarn, it's a worsted weight.

Hi there! I learned to make the granny square from the other video of yours, (Semi Solid Square), and I noticed a couple differences in the way you make the two but I was wondering if there is any difference in the way you would switch colors if I were making the other type of square, or if it's all the same in the long run.

I'm using the Granny square pattern to make throw pillow tops. The bottom of the pillow will be a faux fur. How would you suggest I join the two before I insert the pillow form? I've made over 30 afghans with the granny squares, mostly baby size, with left over yarn that I've been given. Granny squares are addictive. Thank you.
@CrochetwithClare9 жыл бұрын
Hello conneekay I think if you join before you put the insert in it will be much easy to do :)

What size hook you use for granny squares
@CrochetwithClare4 жыл бұрын
hello Mary, the hook size used will vary depending on the size yarn you use. I will usually use one size smaller than what the yarn recommends due to the fact that I have very loose tension, but I recommend using the size hook your yarn recommends.

Hii! I am in the middle of trying to make a granny square blanket and I've noticed that some colors of my red heart medium yarn are thinner than other colors. It's preventing me from being able to mix certain colors together for my squares bc the squares come out smaller with the thinner yarn. Do you have any suggestions for how to incorporate the thinner yarn? I appreciate any input you have on this!! Thanks for all your tutorials, you have taught me a lot!
@CrochetwithClare10 жыл бұрын
Hello Nikki Sclafani I can hear your frustration ! The only thing i can think of is to maybe use a bigger hook with the thinner yarns ? Hope fully this will give you the same size square as the thicker yarns. but i can understand that would be a pain the behind :( thank you so much for your fabulous feedback and thank you for watching my videos

When I am doing the dc into the hole, I seem to get a wad of yarn going and then it doesn't look like a pattern. How do you keep things neat when doing the dc into the hole? Is it holding or turning as you go? It should be so much easier. Thank you.
