Looks like a "join as you go" technique, although it also reminds me of the "chain seam" join I use after all of my squares are completed. Lovely squares, and even better news about your Mom! I just got done listening to your most recent video about the tablet you were able to get for her with your viewers' donations; it was good to hear how quickly she got comfortable with playing games on her tablet, too!

I've just made a sample size one of these, like yours, only more like the black one and it came out well. I'd post a pic but I'm not sure how. Reason being a friend has passed on to me a bag of granny squares to make into a blanket. The squares were crocheted by her friend's mother who passed away, so we're making them up into a blanket to give back to her, to remind her of her Mum. God bless xo And thank you.
