It was too costly to use a real Ferrari Daytona in Miami Vice so it's a replica built on a Corvette chassis. Ferrari did not like the use of the replica and requested that it not be used. The Testarossa was a replica too. The explosion was done with a replica body shell with no engine and other items mainly for safety reasons and a more dramatic effect. To back up my comment as fact, one of the two Daytona Corvette chasis replicas is on permanent display at the Volo Auto Museum.

Yeah. The scene was actually shot on two different days and they couldn't get the same car for both days. The second car wasn't a 25th Anniversary model though, as this episode originally aired in 1985 and the 25th Anniversary Countach is a 1989. The two cars used are an LP500 and an LP5000S in European spec. There were a lot of differences even during year-to-year Countach production due to the realities of Lamborghini's low-volume production line in that era, and the tail light surrounds were a point of variation. The scene was originally shot with the LP500, then when director John Nicolella saw the first edit he wanted a reshoot because he wasn't happy with the scene. So the shoot was scheduled but the original car wasn't available. Back in 1985 hardly anybody noticed. The scene went by quickly and people were watching on small televisions with a fraction of the resolution of our computers, and the cars had less than a minute of screen time between them. Nobody involved with filming could ever have imagined that nearly forty years into the future people would have instant access to everything they did via a high-speed global information network, and be closely examining each scene on portable ultra-high-resolution computer screens looking for anachronisms. It was just unfathomable lol.

At the end of this episode, Gina blows the scumbag away, I love it! No TV crime show today would dare to put such a scene in for fear of being politically incorrect.
