I cannot believe this! My grandmother got this recipe from a TV show when I was probably about 8 years old (I’m now 52)! Nobody ever knew what I was talking about when I said “Russian Chicken”. I made it for my husband when we first got together and he asks for it almost every birthday now - we’ve been married almost 26 years. I usually serve it with white rice because that’s the way my grandmother served it. I’m going to try it with fried rice next time I make it. Never made it in the crock pot, usually bake it - good to know it works. Thanks!

Used to make something similar back in the mid 70s in college. Spread apricot preserves over chicken pieces, sprinkle the onion soup mix over everything, roast low and slow until the chicken was cooked and glazed in the apricot onion mix. Was fancy dining for us budget conscious students.

Those sweet peas remind me of my dad...he loved his peas canned and to this day I still can't stand the taste of them but they bring back lovely memories. I don't know why you say your fried rice isn't the best...it is one of those dishes that everybody makes their own way and it is always delicious. Plus look at how you were able to pull together a nutritious, filling side dish with just what you had on hand.

Thank you so much for this recipe. I’m a crockpot user. Leaving early in morning to go to work,I’m a nurse, I put my crockpot on low and when I come home my meal is cooked and the house smells so good. I’m to tired to start cooking when I come home. I’ll try this one this weekend. There was a restaurant in Houma,La that serve grill chicken with Catalano dressing, so good. This will be similar. Keep the recipes coming. Love you.

Ok, I watched this video this morning. I had boneless, skinless chicken thighs in the fridge. I decided to try this out. I did not have apricot preserves but I did find some homemade pear preserves so that is what I used. I have already made fried rice this week so I decided to serve mine over white rice. I added a bag of frozen seasoning mix from Walmart (peppers, onions, celery and parsley) just for the heck of it. OMG! This is a keeper! Next time I will try it with fried rice. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.

Looks good Jan. You're right leftover rice works best. Your version of fried rice looks good. I add mushrooms, I don't remember if you all like them, to mine and of course a meat. Of course you already have meat in the pot. Try adding the sesame oil at the end as it is more of a finishing oil.

Looks delicious Miss Jan. I'm going to tell you a great fried rice hack. This was given to my parents by some friends from the Philippines. Cook your rice the night before. Go ahead and add your soy sauce, and garlic powder/ or salt and we use green onions l... white and green parts in the rice. The ingredients meld together over night! Yes cold rice makes a world of difference. Hope this helps!❤️️😋

That browned food that you took out of your pan is treasured in China and Japan. They just keep letting things especially rice cook to the bottom and then when they are done they either eat it as a snack or make tea out of it. If you look online you can buy scorched rice tea!

Your Russian Chicken looks delicious. I make something very similar which I call Cranberry Chicken. I mix together a can of whole berry cranberry sauce, a packet of onion soup mix, and a bottle of french dressing and pour it over boneless chicken breasts. I bake it, but I'm sure you could make it in the crockpot too. I'm going to try your version tomorrow night for supper - can't wait!

thanks for the recipe. i made it today using 3 huge chicken breasts. i added a small can of sliced water chestnuts and cut the russian dressing back to 1 cup, turned out way, way, WAY more 'soupy' than i planned on it being...next time i will add corn starch to thicken it up.. the flavor is very good and not as sweet as i thought it might be-i had the apple cider vinegar handy just in case :)p i had it on high for 5 hours and the water chestnuts did not turn mushy-just as crunchy as ever

Brian Bodden I was thinking that also, if that’s what’s on hand. And small tad of chicken broth at the end. We all take recipes and make them to our own liking, Jans & other KZbin recipe videos inspire us with ideas, no harm in that. I do believe Jan even changes out ingredients herself.
