The first animal shown in the 2002 film Ice Age was a fictional saber tooth squirrel named "Scrat." Scrat became a fan favorite of the franchise even though an animal like him didn't actually exist...or so we thought. Fast forward to 2011 and a newly discovered mammal from South America is published, baring striking resemblance to Scrat!

Special thank you to Jake Sutton for the dinosaur sound effects! ►kzbin.info/door/TR3_EgGAr6fu6708ihkpHQ Hello everybody, I hope you all are doing well! While I'm still taking a break from my KZbin projects to focus on graduate school, I was able to whip up a short video using exisitng footage and a couple of art assets I had completed a long time ago. And since Cronopio seemed to become a fan favorite in my community, I figured this would something everyone would enjoy and learn from. Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this short animation video turned out and I am especially pleased with the new dinosaur sound effects that Jake Sutton had made for me. I hope you guys like the video!

Scrat is perhaps one of the most powerful and dangerous beings with a god like tolerance to pain. I like to imagine this species is Scrats endgame, he doesn’t eat nuts anymore and just lived a good life among the dinosaurs.

fun fact for anyone who isn't super into paleontology, the sauropod in the video is not Aregentinosaurus, but Andesaurus as Argentinosaurus did not exist until later roughly around 93~ million years ago along with Mapusaurus

@richie_0740 2 жыл бұрын
it may not live with the argentinosaurus, but there are similar sized sauropods, 15 meter long andesaurus and a recently discovered giant sauropod which is still unnamed, the sauropod was nicknamed "candeleros monster" and was estimated at around 60-70 tonnes

Yeah, for a bit of additional context, the original remains of Mapusaurus were originally thought to be a species of Giganotosaurus, but differences in bone anatomy led to it being reclassified as a new genus Mapusaurus.

Wow! A movie predicting real life! This also happened with Jurassic Park 3, the Spinosaurus in the movie in one scene is seen swimming. During the time of the film's production, it wasn't known that Spinosaurus actually swam. This was just an effect given to it in the movie, but now fast forward many years later. Now we know Spinosaurus was semi-aquatic!

Well, it is difficult to criticize from the point of view of the accuracy of a fictional character for a film that has no real prototypes, and what you consider to be its "real prototype" will be found much later than the release of the film, and just happens to be similar to it.

Regarding this paleomeme. Skrat is not based on Chronopio, "Ice Age" was released in 2002 and Chronopio was discovered in 2011. Scrat's design was based on a squirrel and the rat, proper name "Scrat" is a combination of the words "squirrel" and "rat", also the designers gave him saber teeth (I don't know why) which gave the creature the name "Saber Tooth Squirrel". In 2011 was found a skull of a creature that looked very similar to Skrat's head (including sabre-toothed), which is why it was claimed that Skret was based on Cronopio.
