I have a 1997 grand marquis ac clutch won't engage unless hot wired,the previous owner had it hot wired and grounded to the fuse box,I took that rig off,but it did blow cold,the car also has the blend door issue,do you think the ac will work with a new relay or do I have to fix the blend door issue also?

I haven't come across that issue but it seems like it should still work.

Helpful. However i do have a question(i know this vid may be a lil old). But cant you tell if your compressor is going bad once you put your car in park and it makes a high rooooom noise while the ac is on and its in park? The reason why i asked is bc once i put my car in park &cut the ac off the noise is gone. But once its in park and i cut my ac on max the noise is very loud(like a high idle noise). Or could it be the blower motor/fan? Hope to hear from you soon

Does the noise go up and down when you adjust the blower control? And is the noise on the outside or the inside of the car?

I have a 2002 compressor works fine and freon is change at the right leve my problem is that the blower has no problem and all fuese and relays work fine if you have and idea what it can be i would appreciate your help thanks in advanc

Unplug the the harness plug from the AC and check it with a meter to see if you are getting voltage to the AC. If you are then the compressor could have issues.

When the compressor is on is it supposed to just pulse every 3 seconds, or is it supposed to run continuously?

If you have a pulse check your Freon level. It could be too high or too low. If its far too low the motor will not kick on from the panel and sometimes if it's far to high it will also pulse on and off.

Year 92-97 R1 should be your relay.

I had nothing in it and had to have a vacuum pulled on it before the pump would kick on and take in the Freon.

Sounds like the system needs to be recharged.

You can pull the relay out and check to see if it works by putting voltage to it. If your compressor is working you might need a vacuum to pull Freon in to the system.

2006 Grand marquis. Yesterday driving, going about 70 mph, switched it to MAX AC then suddenly smoke (not vapor) thru vents, burning rubber smell and no cold air. Turned off the a/c, smoke stopped, no leaks under the car. No leaks visible anywhere. Let the car sit over night. Today took it for a drive just to make sure nothing else is wrong. Car drove fine, but no cold air. I just had the a/c accumulator replaced about 3 weeks ago too. Ideas?

I would take it back to the person that replaced the accumulator and asked them what they did.

Same thing happened to me in my 2009 interceptor, But it made a weird high-pitched whining noise and smell of burnt rubber

@@coleman4840 Update for me. I took it to another pace and they told me the first guy didn't flush the system properly, basically ruining my ac system. I had to have it replaced. $1500+

@@LonnieJohnson1 He didn't flush the system so gunk was flowing through the system clogging it up. The ac system was ruined. I had to have a new system put in (by another shop) and I gave him a horrible review.

Easier way is to just take low pressure switch plug off and jumper between 2 terminals if it's good it MUST come on. Just dont do this for long or to charge. It will heat up wires and u can OVERCHARGE system because it won't cycle just runs always

Mine won't. Not sure why either because I've used that method many times on other cars. I have to apply 12v to the connector at the LP switch. Changed the switch too. Still unresolved

@@Slugg-O sounds ikea u have to start checking pins at relay and from ecm make sure you've got power and ecm controls ground. I have encountered ecm fault just for ac circuit. Bummer is have to replace or have rebuilt if so... recommend A1 Cardone for remanufacture turn around is about a week plus shipping

@@ronaldremer1 Wow! I took another look a few minutes ago. I have a pink and a dark - may be purple wire at the LP switch and have 12v on the pink but shorting pink to purple does nothing. However, applying 12v from the batt to pink which already has 12v engages the clutch. I did a current test and IIRC it was between 2-3 amps to engage the clutch. I found a block diagram of the electrical system and will study it on my next day off. Thanks!!!!

Ok. Did that and sure enough, compressor came to life. Blowing warm though. Put in a new relay, no joy! Now where do I go?
