A full refund would be honored if you depart the boat. If you want to stay and enjoy a cruise it would not be. It’s in the contract you signed that ports can be changed, even in the middle of a cruise. Half surprised they were not escorted off the ship.

Well imagine taking 2 weeks of work off and have planned this trip for awhile only to be told its going to less attractive places the last minute...kindda understand their frustration. They should have just canceled the entire thing and stay put. People would have gotten off then

The $6000 dollars guy, based on his accent, is from the Bahamas. Which would mean he spent $400-600ish per person to fly to the US stay overnight to then get on a cruise ship (which he paid $6000 for-which would be about 4-5 month pay for the average Bahamian) just to sail around his own country. This is ridiculous.

Really makes you question when Carnival knew that they would have to change the itinerary. It should've been an immediate notice to the passengers so that they could decide BEFORE getting on the ship. Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me. At least they'd get reimbursed for travel and vacation time off work having to take a cruise to nowhere.

I agree. The guy who sticks out most in my mind is the one who hollered that he spent $6000 just to get to the port. I don’t know when it was discovered that they would have to change itinerary, but if they knew they could’ve told him Before he even got on the plane. I know airlines have their own problems, but some can be negotiated with depending on the company. I know because I missed a connecting flight once because customs took longer than expected. And they rebooked me onto another flight at no charge. Again, this depends on the airline.

They signed the ToS agreement, which likely prevent participating in any Class Action suits, and restricts all suits to Arbitration.

WRONG. No lawsuit at all. In the terms and conditions of all cruise lines, when you book and accept them, it states they ''reserve the legal right to change the itenary'' everyone on the ship signed that and agreed to those terms. The cruise owes nobody money, people need to actually read the Terms when agreeing to a contract

That is a RIDICULOUS excuse from Carnival. They ALL should get a total refund. But, if they were all onboard and THEN the cruise line told everyone, they were basically kidnapped, which should be treated as a crime, as they DID NOT PAY FOR OR ASK FOR going to the destination they were taken, and the food and drinks should've all been complementary for that as well, it goes without saying. Carnival is BY FAR the worst cruise line out there right now.

I’m getting off one way or another! I don’t care how free they make it to make up for their mistake, AN ENGINE THATS HAVING TROUBLE SHOULD NOT SET SALE! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! How do people not see that? If it’s not strong enough to sail at normal speed then it clearly isn’t strong enough to sail in rough waters if heaven forbid unforeseen storms come in at see. Meteorologists can’t predict with 100 percent accuracy.

I’m with you that they deserve some sort of refund. A full refund, nope, not with you in that. Every cruise company carries a clause in the contract that allows them to change their itinerary. For engine trouble, not weather, Carnival owes them more than $400. I just can’t justify a full refund. They still got to cruise, eat food, drink drinks etc.

​@@JH-ld9jk The passengers weren't actually getting $400. That amount was going to be charged as credit. Thus, the money could only be used on the cruise. So, essentially the cruise line wasn't offering any monetary compensation.

in the TERMS THAT YOU SIGN.. when booking, .. it says in there, that they have legal right to change the itenary and do not owe anybody compensation for the changes.. Itinerary changes happen on cruises a lot if there's weather issues or even civil unrest, which happened on my scheduled cruise to Haiti so I didn't get to go. However, something like engine trouble should be reimbursed.

@@loveforeignaccents I actually work for Carnival cruises and have worked in the cruise industry since 2006 and am the farthest thing from a keyboard warrior, I have worked in future cruise sales and as a musician on board and am very familiar with policies. Also, theres way more to this story than the description. The description doesnt offer much information about anything at all so the fact that this is your entire reference is laughable. What I said is you wouldnt be entitled to MORE than a full refund which is what you said youd expect. You wouldnt be entitled to that. Anything else you want me to clarify?

To be honest, when you take a cruise, you sign a contract that states that the itinerary is subject to change at anytime at the discretion of the captain, such as certain ports of call can be cancelled or replaced, especially due to weather and other conditions.

100% fraud. Imagine if us plebeians tried to use the EXACT same logic with the cruise line: “Excited to start my cruise! Now that I’m settled in to my room, I wanted to let you know I won’t actually be paying the full price. Yes I know the agreed price is 5k, but I had some car troubles getting here resulting in me only having 1k to give you for the cruise. I understand this is disappointing, so I’m willing to offer you a voucher for 500 dollars or an iou for some point in the general future. Anyway, let’s set sail!”

This is where being a Karen is justified. Imagine going to Wendy's and asking for a double cheeseburger, fries, and frosty. And then they just give you a salad instead and say "oh we're sorry but we'll give you a voucher for a meal next week if you give us back the food we just gave you" instead of giving you a refund or fixing it.

Thats the worst example possible, and no youre wrong. Being a bunch of overweight drunk children is never justified and these people should be ashamed of themselves. Ive worked on cruise ships going back to 2006 and have worked on nearly every ship in the industry, many of which arent even around any more or were re-sold under different names to different companies, and Ive never seen a group of guests act like this and weve been through much worse. Plus, its in their contract that things can go wrong as they often do in this industry, and they would have known about that had they paid any attention.

For people that don’t see the big deal.. you could get a cruise with that itinerary for MUCH LESS than the $400 difference they’re trying to give to make up for it. These people paid substantially more for the itinerary they went on. Not for the rather cheaper alternative itinerary.

I cruise for the destinations and the off ship excursions. It’s one thing if the cruise has to change a port due to weather or due to a disaster at a port (think Ketchikan landslide) that would make it unsafe or unfun. But this is solely a case of a problem with the cruise line. Period. And all of the people should have been offered a full refund as well as compensation for their travel to get to and from as well as any expenses endured altering their itinerary and stay to do so. Completely outrageous.

One thing you don’t do is mess with peoples money .. these people didn’t just pay to go on a cruise most had to get flights and their luggage l, hotels,car rentals and gas, passports fees, find baby/child care for those who didn’t bring their children and or pet sitters.. $400 will do nothing

The top managers at carnival should be fired over this since it gave them bad publicity. This is why the best policy is to simply do the right thing. Had they announced full refunds for everyone plus a voucher for another cruise, people would’ve at least took the news in a more positive manner.

You guys have no idea what youre talking about and youre just saying these dumb things like "sue them" and "cancel your credit card" and "the engine" Bro, its not a car. Its a ship. Ships dont even go at full speed most of the time if ever anyway. If you ever go on a cruise in the Caribbean, youre going half speed at most. Its not a safety issue, its a speed issue. They could probably actually make it if they went full speed with 3/4 engines, but the fuel consumption would be so high it wouldnt be worth it that way either.

This is what happened on the Disney Wish April 27th - May 1st 2023. I was one of the people on the ship when it happened. For those of you that don’t know, we only stopped at one port. We left Port Canaveral FL and were setting sail to Nassau, the day at Nassau went by, and we were told the engine failed. We were stuck in port overnight. The next morning, after crews working all night, we left Nassau and were told we would not be going to Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island) and all they offered us was a 20% off a future cruise.
