Yeah, this is closer to the Picard I know, he made the hard decision on the spot and showed that he is struggling but that struggle is locked in a game of professionalism - That's Star Fleet.

I kind of get Picard's attitude here. He now knows that not only did the mother of his child feel the need to hide said child from him until she basically had no other options, but that his son consciously choose to avoid meeting him even once and is only meeting him now because he had no other choice. That is going to feel like quite a betrayal from Beverly (because it is, let's be frank) and a big old indicator that Jack is not interesting in knowing him at all. So all he can do now, is focus on the practical element; how to get all these people out of the mess, that he dragged them into.

This is in some ways a recycled story of David Marcus, the son that Dr Carol Marcus had with Capt Kirk and kept hidden from him. The idea that there’s really a vendetta against Picard much like the one against Kirk that Khan and later on the Klingons had directly leading to David’s death are being set up here in Jack’s story. Even his not seeking out his father when of age recreates David’s disdain for his father James Kirk.
@richarda29
@richarda29 Жыл бұрын
Quite so. A way to add a new angle onto a beloved captain the audience has known for decades. Sure, the stories differ slightly, but the fundamentals are near enough. There's one critical difference: David Marcus was introduced in Star Trek II, five whole movies before Captain Kirk died. Stewart's been clear at the outset that this is Picard's last hurrah. Dragging an illegitimate son around wasn't practical for Kirk. There's no such problem here. This is the writers getting to do what they wanted to do the first time without the logistical baggage.

The one real downside of this season is that it implies the TNG crew had basically nothing to do with each other for 25 years. As if Deanna Troi or Picard would let Beverly disappear without a trace, not suspecting foul play. As if Picard and Riker wouldn't know the faces, names and ages of Geordi's children. The cast is so close, I wish their characters were too.

It would be pretty hard for Picard & Crusher to find their way back to love at this point after all that, but who knows? With so many tv shows bringing back 1980s pop songs it feels like…maybe… a scene of them slow dancing in the 10 Forward Bar to some Phil Collins would be appropriate. Maybe “Against All Odds”? Cheesy, I know, but last season they had Jurati singing Pat Benetar! Why not?

Beverly says she told him who he was and where to find him. Did she ever tell him that she was the one who explicitly never told Picard of his son’s existence? Or did she leave it implied that Picard just never made time to be around? She is still hiding a lot. I expect Picard will calm down and eventually listen to Will and have the conversation with Jack. And hopefully they both realize how much Beverley was leading them around by the nose.

As it turns out, it was because Picard felt he already had family and Jack never told him he was his son when he said that to him. Jack misunderstood Picard's meaning of why Starfleet was Picard's family and didn't know that he could have easily been a part of it had he just asked.

Notice that Raffie calls Picard "Jean-Luc" in season 3? She NEVER calls him "JL". Thank God! The writers KNEW that he was being written and the way characters were written off of him wasn't right. Not even Riker or Beverly, who knew him the best, ever called him a nick name like that, yet a cadet with a rap sheet he's known for a year gets to call him that? Nope. I'm sure you were just abbreviating here for a short title. I'm not criticizing you. Kurtzman never understood Trek or its characters and seemed to think modern 2024 language works in Star Trek, and it doesn't in most cases. Picard wouldn't like being called JL. I'm glad Terry Matalas and his writers got rid of that ridiculous nick name. It was inappropriate for the character. As far as this scene, its great, and we really get to have that "who's side is right" argument in Trek again. You let the audience make up their own mind. To me, they were both right, and had good points. Season 3 ROCKS! PLEASE BRING US STAR TREK: LEGACY RUN BY TERRY MATALAS!!!!

0:01 - 1:50 Good to see a Picard/Crusher's conversation after all these years. But things seem to be odd. Beverly's tone is more formal and distant. She does not greet him by "Jean-Luc." And I sense she's hesitant to tell him the whole truth about Jack's origins and why everyone seems to be chasing them. It is understood that after their romance fell apart Beverly no longer feels any attachment to him. Still it's a very odd conversation to see esp for P/C fans.

Trek has a whole mess of messed up accents, Scotty doesn't sound like any Scott in our world, Uhura is supposed to be native African and sounds like she was raised in California, my head canon is that WWIII was a lot worse than we have been told, Scotland obviously took a heavy dose of radiation, turning the population a bit eccentric and effecting their ability to talk right, France, being a major part of the EU likely got severely bombed and lost much of its population, while the British people had to flee across the channel due to famine on the over populated island. Thus the French accent became heavily influenced by British refugees, was the Picar dfamily among those or were they established French citizens already? Who knows. Why do Kenyans sound like Americans? Idunno.....

@@DrewLSsix Yes, he did explain in the second season the Picard family did exactly that, escaped to England during WWII when the Nazis invaded and only came back centuries later. This show has been getting some good personal moments this season. Respect for its characters and good interactions from what I’ve seen so far. But can they stop trying to make it like StarFleet doesn’t care about its outer worlds already. “Planets that StarFleet has forgot about” my foot. StarFleet has such a big fleet so that they can support and help aid ALL their member worlds. You send out a distress signal from the most remote planet in the Federation and you’re guaranteed to have a dozen ships in orbit in minutes. This season of Picard deserves a lot of credit so far, but I won’t tolerate bad mouthing StarFleet. Lower Decks has played that card since its first episode, and that’s why I don’t watch that show. Picard can’t make the same mistake.
