I own an original 5150. Bought new in in the store with all my summer job money. Along with an original 5150 4x12 straight cabinet. This plug-in definitely does it justice. When I used it as my live setup I added a rack mount BBE Sonic Maximizer and Hush noise gate. Plus my trusty DOD analog chorus and delay pedals. My guitar at the time was a 90s American Fender Strat with a Duncan JB4 humbucker bridge and stock middle and neck single coils. The resonance knob on the real amp was always the secret sauce.

It’s the best 5150 plug-in by far. And the feel of it is amazing, like he said in the beginning. It’s just so much fun to play and the Stock IRs are some of the best I’ve ever heard. I’m always using different IRs in my neural plug-ins and The 5150 in Nolly is good, but Ampcraft still beats it in tone and feel. Yes it is CPU hungry, but I invested in a cheap , powerful, office desktop for 180$ and I have no issues now unless I get stupid. So underrated

Hey Jon, great tones as always! Looking forward to try it out soon. I know it's old, but I would love it if you could take a look at POD Farm sometime too. Would be great if you could dial in some tones, or maybe even a run-through of your Clean, Crunch, Rock, Metal project file. One thing about the plugin: I think I preferred the workflow with the older Thermionik plugins better, where they had all the amps and effects as separate individual pluins. Also, if Kazrog is listening, would there be a release at some point which houses this and all the upcoming amps in a single plugin?

I don't know if it's the default cab (an engl RC?!) or something, but I just enjoyed playing through the lead channel without a boost. No, it's not 'mix ready' and the bass was 'wooly'.. But I still liked it! That never happened! It has a sort of roar still in the wooly bass. I went and checked to as many ampsims as I have (amplitube Js50 model, Tse v50v2, helix (native)). Helix got close and had a similar thing now that I was looking for it... The others didn't (and I really liked Tse x50 back in the day...). It's also one of the few 5150 Sims where I maybe even like the crunch channel boosted more than the lead channel. Also played the clean a lot (with bright switch) with just the tube screamer in front to get bluesy tones with my strat. Like I said, after playing around with the beta of this I started looking at 6505mh and I for 5150-tube-preamp style pedals to get me something in real life :)

It's a good plugin, especially with 3rd party IRs. The new GGD Cali pack suits it very well! Other than that it's hard to hold up with the king of ampsims - just one (really good!) amp, no post FX, no MIDI compatibillity, no standalone version for 119$? Even for the introductory price with 50% off it's hard to justify when you already have several great plugins with similar amps being modeled (Archetyp Nolle, Archetype Gojira, SLO-100 etc.)... Still I wish Shane all the best!

I really like your videos, nice work and great riffs, sounds and tests! I see you usually have 2 stereo rhythm guitar tracks, when I look at the daw. How do you manage it : 2 different stereo takes, using 2 different IR's hard panned L/R? 2 different mic mixes from the basic York audio folder, 1 aggressive and the other more bassy for instance?

The 5150 was my first proper tube amp back in the day, and I felt the need to represent it properly in the digital domain. It's such an important sound - often it's the amp that saves a project - and after an exhaustive competitive amp sim review (including my own amp sims of the past), I came to the conclusion that it was possible to do better still, hence the 1992 was born. To be sure: there were already too many 5150 sims before I even got started working on Thermionik back in the day, but is it really a 5150 sim if it barely resembles the sound of the hardware at all (which is so often the case?) That said, there are a lot more amps on the way, spanning different eras and styles, including some stuff that's never been emulated by anyone before.
