Great call. I love to use the limp reraise / limp reraise bluff when I’m utg/bb/sb when there is a button straddle on. I take hands I would want to open and go for a limp reraise instead. It’s looks so strong and it’s a good way to counter act opening and getting 3-4 flats behind you. But I only do this when people on my right are button straddling.

I have been seeing A LOT of limp 3b. It’s been all over the place at the low stakes. I have seen it at MGM NH, parks, encore, and even in best bet jax. Crazy thing is while last year it was always aces or kings… but for the last three-ish months, I have seen it with a wide range of hands, as low as 99 and AJs.

I think there are different types of players who limp-reraise 1. nit who has QQ+ 2. loose player trying to bully table (wide range imo) this feels like the second option, and the turn bet just feels like someone hanging onto a bluff too long I like the jam
@timmyp34 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your 2 types theory. But then why jam? If it's type 1 you are going broke. If it's type 2 villain folds. You risk all to gain some?
@pedro.gandra Жыл бұрын
No NIT is calling that with QQ or KK with a diamond, even AK should fold because your opponent is going to have all the sets (other than AA) and all the straights. On a tight range villains best hand 95% of the time is just AK, which should call only with the K of diamonds, even in that scenario is kinda close. @@timmyp34

I think the biggest take from this hand is that this is a villain you need to play with every chance you get because he really wants to give his money away. Funniest part is when caller say villain insta mucks and berates hero for the push saying he could have gotten more value on the river even though hero only has JJ on this board. Villain's cards here must actually be hilarious like 22-66 no diamond or KQ no diamond or something I can't even imagine.
@mikemcculley Жыл бұрын
Yeah all of the villain's comments are a ridiculous combination of horseshit and poor thinking. If anything with those comments, he's trying to setup the hero for a future play. Don't let it get into your head. Hero played the hand well. Keep playing solid.
@AT-bw4cm Жыл бұрын
@@mikemcculley I think what villain meant after showdown was that if hero just called on turn and a diamond came on the river and villain had a small diamond, he would call the jam after another small bet or check. Basically he likes having the lead and wants to get to showdown on his terms otherwise he will be on tilt.
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
@@AT-bw4cm That's still kind of crazy, though. He's going to continue barrelling a low flush on a 4th diamond when hero called flop and turn? If he had the flush already, and was planning to call a raise on the river, why not call hero's turn jam? His logic doesn't seem to make much sense.
@joshmullins4849 Жыл бұрын
Even during the analysis before the post hand berating, I was thinking that the thinking was way off on this one. This shove isn’t that huge for this level. Random over aggro whale is never ever folding AxKd or any AK for that matter. I don’t even think KdKx or QdQx folds and those hands crush us. Against a thinking player I could understand the idea but once you are in a limp raise pot that is already out the window to begin with. I think turn is a clear as day call. Evaluate on river.
@supersmoo7377 Жыл бұрын
I agree with the first half of what you said, however I think you can get a lot of villains to fold A5 suited, A4 A3 A2 suited. And also you can get villain to fold KK QQ with no diamond if they take that line. So I can see some value to jamming the turn.
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
V really wasn't a whale though. Over-aggro, maybe, but hero's description of V's past play makes his read on V's range seem logical. V's 3B sizing is small, especially for a limp-raise OOP. I wouldn't be putting him on AK, KK, or QQ here. His range looks really weak and wide with the line he's taken, and his small turn sizing invites hero's jam when the 9 gives hero additional outs to improve.
@joshmullins4849 Жыл бұрын
@@1vailchris how do you know he’s not a whale? Hero’s description made me think so. Everyone’s definition of that may vary though.
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
@@joshmullins4849 I can't say for sure he's NOT a whale. But we can't assume he IS a whale. Hero didn't describe him that way. Hero described him as a "table bully" who had been opening his strong hands from EP. To me, a whale is a guy that's VPIP'ing too high, constantly limp-flatting, and calling down too wide, not a guy who's suddenly going to decide to limp-3B from +1 over hero's 4x open in the CO with a hand he'd otherwise open from EP. I'd agree a whale might not fold any Ax or KK here, but with V's oddly-small 3B size pre, and this monotone flop, I think he's going to be folding AXo here a lot when hero jams over his small turn bet.
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
Just to give some personal context - I have a limp-3B range in loose low-stakes games (mostly 1/3, but with the $10 straddle on in this 2/5 example, it's a similar SPR), but my 3B sizing is huge. It's going to be 3x the open, plus 1x for each caller, plus at least 1x-2x more because I'm OOP. Say we're $500 effective, someone opens to $15, and gets one or two callers. I'm 3B'ing to at least $90 or $100. It forces opponents to fold or 4-bet jam with most stack sizes. If we're deep enough that my opponent flat calls, I'm mostly checking or going huge on flop. With the $10 straddle on here, hero's 4x open over 1 limper is pretty standard. V's raise is barely 3x. That looks like a weak bluff with some marginal hand, but hero doesn't have the stack-depth to 4B-fold if V 5B-jams. With that logic, V should be going huge on this monotone flop with his nutted hands, and some bluffs, and giving up on turn if hero calls flop. His small flop and turn sizing look like he's trying to get to a cheap showdown with some AXo or similarly weakish holdings.

I think I'm raising the turn at somewhere between 10% and 20% with the double blocker for the straight and improved equity for myself and the J of diamonds is a decent blocker for the flush. I find you have to find spots to put in raises where you improve in equity and your opponent is sort of clicking buttons and this looks like one of those spots especially with the turn bet sizing and JJ with the J of diamonds is a good combo for it but I don't think you can do it all of the time obviously. I'm calling the rest of the time.

The problem I see here is that V limp-3B, but his 3B sizing of $135 over hero's $40 open was too small, allowing hero to call with a wider range of suited connectors that could have flopped a flush or turned a straight. OOP, he should be going at least 4x, if not 5x, if he's trying to represent a premium hand that doesn't want to give hero a cheap chance to out-flop him. V's turn bet sizing is also too small, suggesting he's on a draw and is just trying to buy a cheap showdown. When Hero shoves, AKxd has to realize that hero could have a made hand already, and if it's a flush, V's got two fewer outs available. If V 3B to $160-$200, hero's range is going to have a lot fewer suited connectors, and be more weighted towards pairs, some of which would be sets, and might jam turn.
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
This hand is off the rails because V's 3B size seems too small from OOP, and they don't have the stack depth for hero to 4B-fold. V and hero can both have a wider range with that sizing, which makes playing this monotone flop more challenging. V's turn bet sizing looks so weak, it invites hero to jam over top, for value or as a bluff. Well played, Tom.

He was bluffing with outs to improve, but also - if hero thinks V is on a draw to a higher flush, and if he thinks that V won't barrel the river on a brick, then it's better to get value for hero's hand by raising turn. An all-in jam is really the only raise size hero can take, with the SPR. With this board texture, there are a lot of action-killing cards that can change the nuts.

If you mean calling an all-in preflop in a cash game, yes with extremely limited exceptions along the lines of you know the shover extremely well and they'd only shove that spot with AA. If you mean should you always keep reraising (or shove) preflop with those hands, it gets trickier. You aren't going to be making a huge mistake 4-betting, 5-betting or even 9-betting preflop with AA. With KK, you need to stop at some point against most opponents, because their range becomes 99% AA, and the less of the effective stack you're in for, the more that set mining is still possible, though it's often too late to set mine profitably.

Problem with jamming is what strong hand are you repping just calling the flop? 999, 910s, maybe A9s, maaaybe JQs. Not many combos of those specific hands. Question is is that enough made hands in your range to counter all the semi bluffs? If the caller has an agg table image, I don’t see AK with a Diamond or better folding here, maybe even slightly worse than that. In which case there’s not a ton of hands beating you that fold. Idk newly getting back into poker, interested in anyone’s thoughts

Indeed: The interesting question is how loose we called the 3-bet with offsuit Broadways preflop: KdQ/KdJ as possible bluffs; QJ, with a Diamond or not, for value. - If we can have neither of those, then we look actually skewed quite heavily towards Value. Mostly probably suited hands that made two-pair on the Flop or Turn, plus QJs, possibly 9d9, or slow-played KQdd/KJdd : JdJ looks in that case to me like our most realistic bluff; I see, at first glance, little else. 🤔 Edit: Also worth of note is probably that having A with the Kd as Villain is actually a rather mixed blessing. - Otoh, he has a redraw, and is never dead. But, on the other hand, he also blocks the majority of our possible semi-bluffs, outside of the JdJ that we hold. It seems at least possible that Villain would have best checked his entire range OOP, as he may no longer have a range advantage.
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
I think the bet-sizing here is the key factor. V's 3B pre was small, allowing hero to continue with some suited connectors that flop a flush or turn a straight. His turn bet is also small, so it looks like he's just on a draw. Hero could have flopped a flush or tuned a straight, and decided to get his value on the turn by jamming, rather than taking a chance V checks a brick on the river, or giving V a cheap chance to outdraw him.
@Badbentham Жыл бұрын
@@1vailchris On the Turn: The SPR means that Villain has the choice between Checking (what I would advocate for his entire Range; - as he is OOP) , Jamming for 1.x pot , and betting small. - While the board texture is such that, in theory, the Preflop Aggressor should , with many different stack sizes and no matter his actual hand strength, bet small, and infrequently: He has only 3, or 4 ( if he can have K9dd; already quite the stretch , for a limp/3-bet hand) , "real" nut combos. - If he even has a betting range, that is. So: Why should Villain be on a draw!? 🙄
@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
@@Badbentham I might be looking at this wrong, but V did fold, and from his comment, it sounds like he claims he folded an Ace, which would have been a better hand. My main point is just that V's 3B sizing pre from OOP isn't indicative of AA / KK / AKs - a range weighted towards hands that don't want to fold often enough for hero's jam to be profitable. And when he continues to bet smallish on flop, and then again on the turn, he looks weak, whereas hero's range is so wide, because of the smaller bet sizing, such that even if V had AA / KK / AK here, hero could have a lot of stronger hands, like flopped flushes and turned straights. V's line looks like he's just trying to get to the river as cheaply as possible. Meanwhile, hero's JJ isn't likely to win at showdown if it doesn't improve, so jamming turn could be seen as a bluff with outs to improve against a better hand, or value-betting the best hand and charging V's draws.
@Badbentham Жыл бұрын
@@1vailchris Preflop: I would be careful not to interprete too much into the sizing. Maybe Villain likes to bet big with his bluffs, but smaller with his Value, to keep Hero in the hand. Maybe he dislikes the idea of bloating the pot too much when playing OOP. Etc. - To judge bet sizes on the later streets in general, you first need Context. That would be: SPR. Previous actions taken by both players. And, of course, Board Texture, and changes of it. Villain can play "appropriate" to the context. Or, he can deviate(!), by betting smaller or larger . If he deviates, then(!) you can (mis)interprete with which specific part(s) of his range he does it: Weak/strong? Bluff? Thin value? Nuts? Completely random ?! - In our hand: Flop is the most standard C-bet on a monochrome board. Turn: If he wants to bet, then Villain goes small with his entire betting range; so literally zero reason for us to "put him on a hand/ a draw" . As shoving out off the blue makes probably only little sense with the given board texture. But, if he did shove, then you would have to ask : Why?! What is his exact range that he is deviating with?
@user-kx6yp8cm7w10 ай бұрын
A shove here looks weird IMO. If you have a made flush then you would probably raise the flop if it’s weak or call down if it’s strong. A turn shoves seems like you might have one diamond as you do. I think you made him fold a worse hand here.

@1vailchris Жыл бұрын
Depends on a variety of factors - the stakes, the typical raise size, the stack sizes, the table dynamics, etc. Generally, a limp-3B from EP is going to be a strong hand, but the ranges get wider if the original raiser is overly aggressive and opening too wide, or if the EP 3B'er is wild and wants to squeeze. If I'm in a loose low-stakes game, I'll have a UTG/+1 limp-3B range that includes both very strong hands like AA/KK/AKs, and some sneaky hands like A5s or even JTs.
