I own 2 other Spyderco knives and after researching the PM2 and seeing what was available I settled on this knife and I could not be happier with it. I bought it for $180.00 about 2 months ago and right out of the box the Micarta was light in color and felt really good, the blade was centered right down the middle and the action was a little stiff when opening and closing the knife. After 2 months the Micarta has gotten darker and looks and feels even better and the action is smooth as silk, whether I use my thumb or middle finger the blade snaps into place lightning fast with a solid sound and the blade free drops upon closing. I love how the compression lock performs and the way it feels when I hold this knife. I used it to cut an old piece of rug and what ever the backing was on the rug dulled the blade a little, I ran the knife across my strop a few times and it brought the edge right back to where it was.

Awesome overview! I think Spyderco would make *serious* bank if they stopped sprint runs and switched to having a custom shop like Benchmade does so people could pick what they want.

Agreed. This spring sun crap is a business move. It's the glesser way of creating a very high demand for a little supply. This way 1. You could sell for more. 2. Test the demand on small runs. 3 create double profit selling these on a secondary market. Let's say you make a pm2 in rex 45 for a production price of 20 bucks. Now you slowly disperse runs at close to 300 bucks ...the secondary market is flood with these stupid prices. We are fooled into buying another product with an exotic steel most of us humans dont need lol. We cant tell the difference in performance from cpm s35v. But the Glessers had made 400 % on profit. We the knife community have power in numbers. Let's stop buying the damn sprint runs and shit will become consistent and available like your example on benchmade.

I had no idea they changed the design of the knife, thought they just released a new combo of steel and scale material. I’m tempted to pick this one up but I’m holding out for a Magnacut PM2 if/when that happens. Good vid thanks for sharing

Hell no, 3v is overkill for a folder. That much thoughness is not needed.
@gingebrien2408

@@wesleysnider2915 to each his own. But will agree to disagree. Considering that Spyderco loves sprint run in all sorts of steels, some better than others, I’ll bet you a run of 3V would sell out in minutes. And I have the Benchmade Bailout in 3V. Very slim blade and excellent slicer.
@wesleysnider2915
@wesleysnider2915 Жыл бұрын
@@gingebrien2408 when it's slicy, it's because of the geometry and not because of the steel. 3v's big advantage is the thoughness, but it costs you edge retention. On a folder that much thoughness is not needed. You will not baton heavy pieces of wood or such things. 3v is a good steel, but for fixed blades, not for folders where you would destroy the lock with heavy abuse.
@gingebrien2408
@gingebrien2408 Жыл бұрын
@@wesleysnider2915 I don’t disagree with you. But, I Love the toughness of 3V, Cruwear etc. I’ve abused my 3V and to get it shaving sharp again all I’ve had to do was strop. Now we all know that knives are not supposed to be used as screw drivers, pry bars etc. but let me say that my Benchmade Bailout in 3V has had such abuse with zero chipping. The blade is insanely thin and strong and again for me stays sharp. Let’s note good old 1095 has been used for a 100 years and also makes great survival knifes that are easy to sharpen in the field. As you said geometry has a lot to do with the ability to cut. For me I’ll take toughness over edge retention. 😁

Does anyone have a verified solution to clean the micarta…after carefully coating blade with good quality oil and the pivot etc….veery very carefully….some of the overspray got on micarta and I’m sick to my stomach…using some 409 on a rag helped but its still a little stained….is there a solution????? Thank you in advance. By the way the knife came perfectly centered, sharp as f&*(, and drop shut with zero adjustment needed. Incredible.

I tied the first tip with alcohol pads. No luck. I’ll try your suggestion today. Trying to be positive and say it’s patina but beware oiling any part of knife because it will slowly seep thru the pocket clip holes, and deep towards outside edges even if you lightly and carefully apply like a surgeon. Like wearing white shoes through dewy grass kind of. But the blade sharpness, perfect centering, drop shut perfect blade is A+. Thanks for tip.

It's interesting to see that your handle scales are the same on both sides and your blade is centered. On the copy I received, one scale looks like it was cut backwards; so it has the smoother side of the scale facing outward and the textured side on the inside. And, the blade is definitely not centered.

I got this knife for the blade steal and wanted to swap out handle scales to titanium (to give an all metal look like vintage police) but realized with the full steal liners it was a no go! I had to buy a whole other pm2 to cannibalise the handle liners that nest to use the scales I purchased. I was able to constrict and sell a knife from all the left over parts so that did cut down on my over all cost.

out of box I'm a bit disappointment this used to be a fantastic knife and coming from their home factory used to mean an exceptional out of box experience. I had a pm2 years ago blacked out blade digicamo and it was a dream right out of box, this isn't smooth this is gritty there is lock stick this is a huge disappointment coming from golden Colorado that's absolutely supposed to mean something to them and they should be ashamed at the quality fit and finish. Like you said it's just okay and subpar

Those are very minor gripes. Out of all my knives I like Spyderco the best and the PM2 and Delica 4 are by far my fave models. When I first saw a Spyderco leaf design I thought the were ugly as hell and the style was simple and crude or non-refined. After buying the PM2.... that all changed. I can cut an apple, eat a steak, shave wood for a fire, pick a thorn out of my hand, use for defense..... the list goes on. It is a very utilitarian blade design and does everything well. I've never once had a need where I was like "Man, I wish the tip of this blade was thicker". That's a pry-bar or screw-driver job. lol. I just ordered this knife and it's my first Cru -Wear blade.

Maybe they will CQI that thin micarta. I see no reason why they needed to change the scales from their regular versions. I'm a fan of Cruwear. Great well balanced steel. I have several knives in that steel, including a couple fixed blades, and have never had a staining issue with it.

Spyderco can do micarta scales with nested liners well. The Z-Wear and M4 micarta versions of the Shaman proved that. I think they’re using full liners on these PM2’s simply because it’s cheaper, and I’m not at all impressed with the scales on these, (nor the unnecessarily gigantic cutout for the compression lock). These are dealbreakers for me; for ~$190 anyway. Golden is really slippin, imo. I wish they’d just make the PM2 and Shaman in Taichung now, (and update their designs with pivot bushings). 🙃

You know there are plenty aftermarket scales in micarta for the regular nested PM2 produced. You cannot tell me Spyderco was not able to. They do not want to and just cut corners in production. The poor scale quality is just an offense for Spyderco fans. How in all the heavens can all reviewers of this model here on youtube can be so positive about that. I do not care about any steel when I get ripped off with poor scale quality. You cannot even put PM2 aftermarket scales to make things better because the liners are not nested but full size. The edges on my brand new one are rough and fuzzy and in no way knocked down. For the price this is ridiculous. QSP can do it in the 30$ range. Civivi can do it. Kizer can do it. Come on. US Made out of Golden … really!
