Well you see, Cthulhu, French fries actually originated from Belgium rather than France. The villagers had barely anything to eat except potatoes during winter, so they tried various ways of making their meal consisting of just those at least somewhat appetizing. They tried boiling, stewing, roasting and eventually cutting them up into tiny strips as well. Skip to World War I, in which the American troops set up base in Belgium to fight off the enemy and started enjoying the country's delicacies, one of which being their fries. However, formal language back then in Belgium was French and the American soldiers being as bright as they are believed Belgium to be a province/part of France. Hence when the food item was brought back to the States was dubbed "French Fries".
