For the M1008, M1009, M1028. NOT FOR the M1010 Talking about what is 24volt and what is 12 and how to utilize these massive alternators on a regular 12V system.

Great information, Ian! Love these trucks! Can you please provide the website information for the company that publishes that PDF showing how to do a conversion? Tim

Switch to a 12V cranking system is probably one of the easiest mods to a CUCV. A little different on the variants with the 100A 24V systems as they are equipped with DUVAC units.

Whats the website for the PDF? Direct link to the pdf and not to a forum website please thank you!

I was hoping you would of done a video demonstrating how to modify the electrical of the CUCV into 12V. Oh well maybe after some sleep the written instructions will sink in a little better. I was just hoping to get a visual idea on here haha. Debating between Chinese internet 24v starter or making my CUCV 12V. She sat motionless in my yard long enough I gotta do something!

All that resistor pack does is glow plugs nothing else. That "cap" is a noise filter. It does like nothing... it is for the military radios. Oh ya and don't convert the truck... the system works fine as is, makes no sense to convert it just makes headaches...

so how do 2 12v alternators charge a 24v battery set up ?
@suzuki06g5 жыл бұрын
As he said these are nothing but Chevy K5 Blazers with a 24v starter: The driver’s side alternator charges the vehicle’s front battery. This battery and alternator supply power for all the 12-volt components/systems. Both alternators charge the rear battery. The electrical system of the M1008/M1009 is a civilian 12-volt system modified to allow 24-volt starting and supply 24-volts for military accessories. The only true 24-volt component is the starter motor. If you are frying glow plugs then you might want to consider converting to one alternator, possibly two 6v batteries (or one big 12v), swapping the starter to a 12v and finally removing the glow plug resistors.

If you swap out the 24v starter for a 12v starter can you use the vehicles positive bank and negative bank's on the firewall? Can you mount the positive cable onto the positive power bank and connect it to the battery's positive post and then connect the negative bank's cable to te battery's negative post?

are you talking about the glow plug resistor

I don't think the m1008 is an upgraded version of the civi k30. Just a standard k30 with a 24v system.

welpro21 different axles and gearing, plus the fun little mil spec stuff
@welpro217 жыл бұрын
Same axles as k30, 4.56 was a ratio offered in civilian models. But, yeah the 24v system, gun racks, etc. The only downfall was the NP208 instead of the NP205 which was standard on the k30.

So you can take the regular 12 V GM alternator and put on the driver side of the military blazer
@844002 жыл бұрын
M1009 CUCV blazers use two 12V alternators to charge there batteries. The alternator on the drivers side does have its own ground to the engine block. These use the larger 15SI alts i believe but its been a while since i messed with a CUCV
@REDXIII13316 жыл бұрын
so the starter does not need to be changed out? just replace the ground on the alternator and compacter

Ian, I just got an 86 Cucv. I had a guy look at it and he tried to convert it to 12 V system. When I try to start it, it sounds like it has a weak battery. Could this be because he should have changed the starter to 12B?
@mickcoll707 ай бұрын
He should of replaced the starter with a 12v unit. It doesn't spin as fast as a 24v system tho. That's normal

If I replace the 24 v starter with a 12 volt what alternator do I need to keep on the vehicle?
@quinnindustries1703 жыл бұрын
Either one they both run 12 volts to the motor just check to see which battery they're going to

I need help here please, i live in the middle east and I own an m1028 there's and orange piece inside the alternater that has been burnt, and I went to every place in my country to find that piece and I couldn't.. the only way was to connect the 2 batteries to only one alternater.. so I did that and now the 1 alternater can't handle the charge from the 2 batteries and the car start up got very heavy and just today the truck won't start 💔. I can't find any number on the alternater or anything it's been deleted, so I hope you read this comment cucv owners and pleas help thank you

Buying a M1008 CUCV. I have never owned such a vehicle. What if I need to jump start it? Because it has 2 batteries, I have no idea what to do. Thanks.
@josephsmith74386 жыл бұрын
jump off the front battery only... OR can use the ground and the positive post on firewall battery, but that sends 24 volts to what you are jumping Make sure your lights are off(they will blow) and only recomand for OLD stuff and equipment as you are putting 24 volts to whats being jumpped could fry computer stuff and replays I'm sure ( batteries are in series and if you use front battery only 12 volts ( high as maybe 14.5 when running) .FRONT battery only for 12 volt jumps

Isn't one alternator different than the other, ie. no external ground pole?
@keithjurena93197 жыл бұрын
Both Delco 27 SI alternators are exactly the same. Both are isolated negative so they have negative terminals. The drivers side negative is connected to ground while the right alternators negative is connected to the front battery positive terminal. It is a simple system compared to the M-1010 DuVac with 100 amp Leece Neville 24 volt alternators. Realize the need for 200 amps of power and also have room for the AC compressor

Do I need both alternators for 12v?
@844002 жыл бұрын
No you could ditch the drivers side one or passenger side one. Just make sure your single alt is up to the task of maintaining your dual batteries.
