CATL is the world’s biggest EV battery maker with more than 40% marketshare, way ahead of the second, BYD. But unlike the latter, CATL doesn’t built EVs itself. The skateboard, however, is available for other carmakers to be used under license. That allows them to shorten development times drastically, enabling to put a new model on the market within 12 to 18 months, as all major components are already there on the chassis. In essence, it’s going back to the origin of the automobile, where chassis and body were separated and you could oder with specialize coach builders different body designs on the same chassis. The Bedrock Skateboard is CATL’s high-end version of the first it has built, called CIIC (CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis). The first brand to use the Bedrock chassis will be Avatr, of which CATL holds a 14.1% share, being the second-biggest shareholder. The new Avatr car is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

The official WLTP range for the Born 77 with the E-Boost Pack (77 kWh lithium-ion) is 560 km (348 miles). With the larger battery and upgraded motor, the Born VZ, which features a 84 kWh lithium-ion pack, claims a range of up to 599 km (372 miles). The sister car, the recently redesigned VW ID.3, has also seen a range boost according to WLTP figures. The 77 kWh version claims a range of up to 550 km (342 miles), while the 84 kWh version claims up to 604 km (375 miles). I’ve had the chance to drive the 77 kWh version, and it showed an estimated range of 550 km. While I haven’t had enough time behind the wheel to fully assess its real-world range, my brief test left me quite impressed with how well the car handles. It’s surprisingly agile and quite enjoyable to drive. I was expecting a much softer and wobblier car.

You'll get that in summer easy driving and a light foot, in winter more like 300km
25 күн бұрын
@@sargfowler9603 You can have both with a heat pump installed. So Winter range is barely affected. Even driving at a steady 120 km/h on the highway, it gives around 400 km of range. With mixed usage, it's easy to exceed 500 km. Around 600 for the 84Kw version if you do lots of city driving. As for winters, they're pretty mild here in Portugal, it rarely drops below 10°C in the peak of Winter, so the range isn't affected year-round. I have managed 540 kms in the Highway at 113km/h and over 650 kms mixed usage with a Tesla 3 LR RWD with a slighlty smaller battery of 75kWh. Ranges are already really good if you don't have an heavy foot.

All the cupra across the range buildt after june of 24 arw called MY2025 cars, they all the upgrades the vz has only difenece is the extra power, (its not really needed for the streets) and vz gets diferent seats. But in my opinion, i drove borth before buying, the Dynamica seats in the V3 model are the best in the range. Best looking, and in comfort, but that is subjective. But thr V3 has a nice massage function in thr two feomt seats, the vz doesnt. But i wouldn't make of brake the deal. The vz is fast fast, but the Born 60kw V3 e-boost, with 165kwh (or thsts what tesla caheger gives me), is also Fast, fast enough for british bendy A, B and even C roads. A blast around the B and C roads, these are really rural roads. On thr A raods tiu jave to be careful for your licence, as they are the raid that you will rack your points up on and end up banned. As the born os a car that pushes you on when youre in it. For this realson id call it a hot hatch as its just fun, its a hatch thst shoudkt be this much fun. A hot hat h isnt all bout outright soeed. Otjereise the Golf R wousl be the car evey gold iwner eants. But in almost all reviews, they said wow blistering, savage etc... but id still rather have the GTi ad its more fun.

A Cupra Born is just a VW ID3 in different clothing and as such, it's a good car. And it was cheaper than the equivalent ID3. I've always said that the ID3 was a wee bit over-priced to be a total winner. That imfamous lousy software has actually improved a fair bit now, because of Xpeng and other Chinese input, to the point where its no worse than average. I haven't tested the very latest version [V.5?] so I can't say. But why concentrate on the software? Because the car has always been pretty good in every other respect. Interior space especially. The 150kW motor is ICE hot hatch nippy without a strain, and the old standard battery size of 58kWh usable gives plenty of range, and it's lighter than the biggest battery, hence the better performance. Making the car a lot cheaper would be very nice indeed. Now we want that in UK/Europe too, although how it's going to fare against the Chinese invasion remains to be seen.

I think they have to have a certain portion of their total sales by year end comprise of EVs...or else pay huge fines. Its not beyond the realms of possibility they actually end up paying your to 'buy' one off them. Buy a £20,000 car get £25,000 cashback or something to prop up their EV sales & avoid being fined. Completely different scenario, but I remember in the local area in 2008 crash selling brand new Dodge Avengers for £5,500 as there were a lot of fears Jeep-Chrysler would go bust & warranties would be invalid. I've seen brand new Fiskers with 570hp be advertized for £19,995 recently for just that reason. There really is no bottom to the market.
