Another Italian here that loves food from all nationalities and I didn’t hesitate to “smash” the Like button on this after making the tastiest lentils I ever had. Last year, I made this for my meal prep week and I swear I ate it two weeks straight and doubled up on the onions (the best part). I have shown the most basic yogurt cucumber side. You can even add some chaat masala or dry roast half a teaspoon of cumin seeds on low heat, crush it and add it.

Oh Bumbi this was so delicious….I did swap in some cubed fried firm tofu instead of the beans as I didn’t have any & sprinkled them on the top along with those amazing caramelised onions. Wonderful recipe with such a beautiful flavour & your clear detailed perfect instructions…..thank you so much. The vegetarian friend I made it for was delighted & so was I 🙏🏻

I'm from the middle east, we cook this dish a lot, I absolutely love it. But, we don't cook it with all those veggies. Just Rice, Lentil, onios, cumin, salt, and water. However, I'll try your recipe, it looks delicious too. One trick we use for caramelizing onions, we sprinkle some flour or corn starch on them before frying.

I used bacon grease to caramelize the onions and added the bacon bits at the end along with the onions. I thought about adding some additional bacon grease instead of ghee, but the clarified butter looked so good on video that I went the extra step of making some to add in. It was delicious!!! Your video and manner of teaching is wonderful.

Whenever you caramelize onions, take them out as soon as you see them turning golden brown as they keep on deepening in color from the residual heat and the deeper the color, it starts getting bitter.
