I like seeing things not always go to plan in videos. Makes it more relatable to the problems I encounter. I tried the same thing with a Stanley blade last night. Great video.

Great video Keith I bet you are glad you kept those floor boards! I was getting through sanding belts like no tomorrow but got an abrasive belt cleaner. They are £8 in screwfix and work a treat, the product code is 16210. 👍🏼

I used to have the same belt sander....Died on me too when I used it for a prolonged prolonged period of time. Recently replaced it with the Triton belt sander. Haven't given it a prolonged hammering as yet but first impressions are good.

+Sharp Edge Woodworking is that the one on screwfix? I had a look at that but ended up ordering the Bosch pbs75a ... it arrives tomorrow looking forward to giving it a spin. I've been through so many belt sanders over the years and yet to find a decent one that lasts. And I've never had a Bosch tool fail me so I'm hoping it will be The One!

Rag 'n' Bone Brown Screwfix have started carrying a range of Triton products (the orange bodied stuff....not to be confused with TITAN....Screwfix's grey house brand) in the last year or so. Some of which can now be seen in the catalogues but the full range can be found on their website. Only issue is that Screwfix also carry a range of showers branded as 'Triton'.....so a lot of bathroom products may come when your search for "Triton".....so try "Triton Tools" (for the benefit of anyone reading this).

I love the sun rays shining through the shop window, I get giddy at how walnut stain teases with hints of black, I can't help but relate when you share the heartache of a fallen tool, which makes me wonder............. Are these the ingredients for the making of a legend?

my sander had a similar problem and it was just the drive belt that had broken. sounded awful but new belt and it's been spot on.
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 7 жыл бұрын
+bidders77 yeah I've had that before - drive belt breaking seems to be a common problem. Replacements are hard to find On a lot of the cheaper belt sanders too. I think it is one tool worth spending some extra money on. Having said that I spent £100 on the Ryobi and it has failed me!! The drive belt is fine though I think it's something internally

@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 7 жыл бұрын
+voluntarybutlertv I think they'll be ok as long as you don't move it around a lot. Legs screwed to a tabletop are never going to be as stable as a proper mortised desk frame though

Beautiful desk top. Did you use the same kind of sandpaper for sanding wood and for removing paint+ from the wood? For the latter exist special sandpaper. Works much better, faster, easier.

+Robert John Allan hi Rob, thanks. Only reason I didn't use the thicknesser was because there were a few old nails in the wood that I couldn't get out without making a mess and I didn't want to ruin the blades. Having said that I need new blades anyway so maybe I should have gone for it haha!!

I just finished making a desk from ikea birch ( solid butcher block) worktops. EDIT I also just cleaned up the wooden windowsill , you think you have it hard , it had 14 layers of paint on it ....... 14!!!!!! EDIT Would that spray varnish be OK over danish oil ?
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 7 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Joy 14 layers??? wow I don't envy you on that one! Yeah spray varnish would be fine over danish oil I believe. It's good stuff and dries so quickly which is handy 👍🏻
@andljoy
@andljoy 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks may give it a go if you can get a matte or satin version. Yeh 14 layers was a bit of a pain , nothing a bit of nitromorse and 40 grit sandpaper cannot fix :).

I find that using a sanding belt cleaner/eraser works a treat to extend the life of all sorts of abrasives if used throughout the job. I'm not sure if there's a HF near you, but this is one of the items it makes sense to pick up from them. They look like a giant gummy rubber eraser (www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_17622.jpg)

A little link for you to look at (www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-abrasive-belt-cleaner-standard-210-x-40-x-40-310398) these cleaners are brilliant and will extend the life of your sanding belts. Amazon might even have some cheaper versions. Good luck 👍🏼😉😊
