In this video I start making 2x custom desks as a commission.

I could watch vids like this all day. Would get nowt done, but there you go. And can I just say that your channel helped inspire me to ditch buying a new PC and monitor to invest the money on tools for my workshop. I've dreamt of making wooden toys and selling them on Etsy, ebay and the like for ages, so thank you for making these videos, mate.

I like the design. And you paid high attention to the details like the veneer thickness of the ply - > scraping and hand sanding. Didn't know it could be so thin, but agree to staying on the safe side.

As far as I know, Bunnings are an Australian company, we have them here in New Zealand as well. The cheaper plywood quality is also very poor, the decent ply is quite expensive! Good video !

You know, it is the dawn of your "time in the sun" , on a weekly basis you have shown us what a well made project (on both sides of the camera) looks like. Please don't go the route of the David Picciuto's and April Wilkerson's of youtube. Refining there channels based on commercialism and eventually losing what it was that got them where they are now. It is a sad thing to witness and ultimately shortens the longevity of a channel and the passion that inspired it in the first place. With love in my heart from S. Carolina to you. Dillon in the shade hanging out with his man-dad looking so content... these cut aways are true gems.

Sleek design, coming along nicely. 👍 Bunnings here in Australia, are pretty good for plants, tools, fasteners and fixtures, but are questionable on their grade of woods...

Coalition of Rob, I've never found bunnings wood to be of high quality, no matter what type I needed. I haven't bought wood from there in years. Tools and everything else though, I mostly buy from there.

I like checking in to Bunnings now and again. I find it to be a 'more welcome' version of B&Q. I was never a fan of the Homebase layout although, I recently read that the Australian owners have lost millions on the investment and that the stores may revert back to Homebase in the near future. A shame. Looking good so far, Keith. Out of interest, what do you do with your waste and offcuts? I think you're a van owner, which almost certainly prohibits you from using local recycling centres.

Homebase is now Bunnings they bought out the Homebase stores. They are as others have stated Australian. You could get some bargains from there when they first took over as there pricing structure was in line with there Australian store priced but over the past couple of months there prices have crept up too the usual uk rip off prices. There F clamps they do are great

Lime 23 I think you’ll find Bunnings have now sold off the U.K. chain for £1 and it is now in the hands of Hilco Capital. I heard they are reverting the name back to Homebase.

A tip on your Japanese Ryoba Saw, then the course side is for ripping and the fine side is for cross-cutting. It's not really obvious since there isn't any markings on them to help specify which is which. It took me a while to learn it myself, but it makes sense once you do. I do really like to use them though, do you get them at Clas Ohlson or do they sell them elsewhere in the UK? Can't wait to see how you make these desks dismantlable and sturdy at the same time since it can be a bit of a challenge. Good luck and I can't wait for the next video!!

Bunnings bought Homebase in the UK and have tried to re-brand to Bunnings there has been little interest and they are re-branding back fully to Homebase .After seeing the state of the ply at Bunnings he should have just given B&Q a try they have the same ply but usually its in better condition. I had the same issue for a project i was doing and the wood at Bunnings was scrapped from the bottom of the wood pile the cheapest crap they could find. I went to B&Q got what i needed had to go though about 5 sheets till i got to a few good ply sheets and they were £3 cheaper than Bunnings.

Came across this good idea for DIY edge banding clamps Keith - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6XXn2N9ps6Zd7M. I’d bought some of the Rockler brandy clamps before but they’re scary expensive, but by using 50mm spring clamps and a bicycle tyre tube I knocked out 10 edging clamps in no time for a fraction of the cost.

B&Q Sell the same for £36 - it's all poor quality. Bunnings is Homebase under a different name. BB/BB Baltic birch can be had from Smith Bros ( www.smiths-timber.co.uk/sheet-materials/ ) just outside Lowestoft. Prices are reasonable - I paid ~ £120 for a full sheet of 12mm and a full sheet of 18mm including having them cut to my requirements. (They charge per cut) - Considering you had to double up your quantities I think you'd have been better off visiting somewhere like Smith Bros. and paying just a tiny bit more. They are open at the weekend but wont cut on a weekend. You can phone through your order/cuts and pick up on a Saturday though.
