Hi Jim, just thought I'd let you know, I've a Sukhoi heading my way, and all because of your review. By far the most expensive knife I've ever bought. Hopefully I'll get it here in the UK before Christmas. Thanks for putting this review on KZbin.

I couldn't agree more, Jim! I couldn't believe how much value this knife provides. It's probably my favorite knife purchase this year, this is after spending 3 while days at Blade. It's unreal for the price. Quality is just screaming.

Jim, your videos are some of my favourite things to watch on youtube. I'm looking forward to getting an Elf from CKF next week and I don't know that I would have ordered it without having seen your video on the Asymmetric. I opted for the Elf over the Sukhoi but after seeing this vid I might have to get one of those too. Keep it up!

People just never will understand what goes into a quality knife. They have no idea how much the materials cost and the amount of time that goes into these beautiful knives.

Wonderful review, I really enjoy all of them. It is so boring to watch hundreds of people reviewing the same 50$ mass production knife all over youtube. What you do is completely different and deserves admiration. About the particular knife. I've just bought one in black. I've found it for 290$ and could not resist it. Still a lot of money for me, but it is so beautiful. The way lines flow, the materials and hope the craftsmanship. I even like it more than the Decepticon. Sukhoi is more minimalistic and fluid. It begs for an engine of a sort and gladly would fly in space :)

Svetoslav Popov that seems strange to bear relative to what I've heard about CKF. What was so wrong about it?
@MrVitamincpp7 жыл бұрын
First it was the dullest knife I've ever bought. Every Spyderco, even models below 100$ are razor sharp compared to this chinese-russian hybrid. Second, the backspacer was wobbly and could not be fixed with tightening screws. The disassembly turned into mission impossible, I've damaged it during my attempt and ultimately dumped it altogether. I'll never buy another russian knife for more that 50$.

I love the designs they're producing, I like the materials, and I don't mind or miss the corners that got cut to make them affordable. Shirogorov and Sinkevich have already sold me on the brilliance of Russian (and Belarussian [?]) knifemakers... they just need a little help with naming and branding. You can say 'pshaw! That's just words, details'. But names can sell a knife, and names can hurt a knife. If it weren't for the videos, I'd never remotely consider buying from a place called 'Custom Knife Factory'. But what do I know? Maybe it's just me. Another great video, BTW... I'm slowly working my way through the backlog of videos, in no particular order.

Mr Skelton, you have one of the most impressive collections of knives i've ever seen. Every single one of your pieces absolutely astonish me and I have always wanted to know, what got you into knives?
@JimSkeltonKnives10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick, that's very nice of you to say. I am fortunate to own some great pieces, and I have friends that collect at a level that makes my stuff look like an entry-level collection too LOL I found my first knife when I was a kid... a Buck 110 in a field at a park in my neighborhood. I grabbed it and hid it from my parents, and played with it every day. Can't believe I didn't hurt myself, but whatever. Once my folks felt I was old enough to own a knife (I was about 11 I guess), I began to collect as many as I could afford. I only owned production knives will 2009 when I was introduced to a custom (Brian Tighe), and it was all downhill (for my wallet) from there.

Hey Jim, Thanks for the great video. I know it's an old one, but knife collecting is a dynamic process that changes over time right? My tastes 5 years ago were dramatically different, and maybe now they are like yours were years ago. Nonetheless, been enjoying your videos for a while and wanted to say thanks for the eye candy, excellent video production, and insight. I was also wondering if you've gotten your hands on one of the custom Sukhoi Dragon Spines. They look pretty amazing, and when I saw a couple pictures online, I thought they'd be your jam for sure.
@JohnSmith-tm5xx9 жыл бұрын
True beauty in every aspect. Though I'd like to see those exposed screws getting hidden, as they disturb the otherwise perfectly smooth and fluid lines of the knife. Propably too much to ask from a production* knife, but maybe a custom variant... I bet you'd love it even more if it was a flipper ;)

I totally wanted one of these except for that I like flippers far more than thumb studs. I just ordered the new Gratch and hoping for the same level of design quality. My price range fro a knife is still $70-200 (which some will still say is crazy) but shows like yours are becoming dangerous for my funds, as someone who loves knives

Hi Jim, Love your Vids, very cool! Also would like to see a vid on some EDC Combo's you put together, knife, watch, pen and so on. Also a collection vid or top 30 would get monster views as you know the collection vids are the most viewed videos on knife reviewers youtube channels. Thanks again Jim for all your time and effort you put in to your channel and I wish you every success for the future.

Hey Jim, I know you only deal with custom knives but what would you recommend as the best knife to purchase in the 100 to 120 dollar range; can't afford the customs (but wish i could).
@tattoochef4259 жыл бұрын
Spyderco Paramilitary 2....You can not go wrong with it. S30V steel, super strong compression lock, a flat grind that is great for slicing, and an all around user knife. Probably best knife in the $100-$120 range period, in my opinion. Spyderco Manix 2 is pretty good as well, which has a ball bearing lock. Also if you are on instagram, check the #knifesale, and see what people have, you can get a good deal at times. Sometimes you can pull out a Zero Tolerance 550 or 560 for about $125, which is a great deal and an amazing knives.

As he said, "you're not the market they're looking for." Yes, the vast majority would say spending $450 on a knife is insane, but I invite you to go on the forums or on youtube and see the community of knife collectors that know quality and would pay that in a heartbeat- and there's a lot more than fifty of them.

Everyone has their own hobbies. I would gladly spend this kind of money on this knife, whereas someone else might spend this kind of money modding a car, or a motorcycle. Then you have those out there that will pay over $100 on collectable cards which is simply just a pretty piece of paper. I love my hobby of knife collecting, just as I'm sure you love whatever hobbie it is you do.

in my humble opinion "paracord artistry" is simply stupid!!! I don't understand people who buy a mobile phone for 600 or 700 dollars when all know it cost 20 or 30 dollar of material and workmanship and is made in a factory in China from slave labour. I don't understand woman who buy purses or shoes for thousand of dollars (or euros) when the real cost is only 40 or 50 dollars. When it come to a knife which is made from best materials in the world and is made totally by hand from an artist they shout: "so much"?Why?
@JimSkeltonKnives10 жыл бұрын
Ganga Din LOL, not even close. If you truly think a $2 knife performs like a $500 knife then you will never understand. Just purely based on utility as you claim... that cheap knife ($2 or $75, whatever) will never hold an edge like a premium steel that has been professionally heat treated and hand ground in a way that won't burn up the heat treat. The edge geometry considered on a custom is vastly different than a "cheap" knife that simply has an edge on it. I could go on, but it would be a waste of my time.
@Frentorianid10 жыл бұрын
Ganga Din Do you realise HOW MUCH technology goes into mining the ore, refining it, designing new steels and alloys, making them, cutting etc, etc, etc. There ARE WHOLE brunches of industry working on each of these processes. The amount of knowledge that goes into macking each generation of blade steel/mining and milling equipment (the list goes on) is also insane. People would have been using stone tools if there was "no difference"
@KT-nl7rp10 жыл бұрын
Jim Skelton LOL (man, I hate people who "LOL" others. Incredibly condescending). No, the knife is not actually worth that much. Materials + labour, do not equal $1000+. The reason these knives cost so much is because there is a small, EXCLUSIVE market. There are people willing to pay for it, regardless of it's ridiculousness. Think of a Gucci purse. Sure it's made with fine quality materials; impressive craftsmanship; may even have some innovative clasp, or zipper. But the materials + labour DO NOT equal $10,000. Another example, is a coin collection. Is the "value" of a penny made 100 years ago really "worth" $15,000 today? Only if some collector is willing to pay it. Same as these ridiculus knives. These custom knife makers. If they do a break down of their expendature I assure you 75% will fall into the profit margin. Unlike a smart phone. That's an item with high demand, high competition. Considering the amount of people/materials/research involved, $600 for a phone is reasonable.
@Frentorianid10 жыл бұрын
Ganga Din Yeah, a spring-steel knife (if done right) is a good knife, but is it the best? NO. Are there BETTER knives? YES! And such is with phones, computers, etc. I use a cheap ass NOKIA for 70$. It is a good phone, because I can call people, send messages and serf the internet if needed. Are there better phones on the market? Hell, yeah, the number is endless. The knowledge of materials is just a very tip of an iceberg, and believe me this science alone is not as easy as you think. Talking about price- J eL is not completely right. Till some point you pay for materials and overall quality, but after like 400$ you start paying for craftsmanship- a knife becomes a work of art.
@zymuur9 жыл бұрын
Ganga Din If you built a knife out of top materials and it took you lets say.. over 50 hours to build. Shape and create every piece on the knife by hand with the exception of screws or some other small parts like that. Would you sell it for $5?
