Getting the guys driving the wrong way at Gandalf seems legit, but busting people looking at their phones in stationary traffic is trifling.
@CyclingMikey4 ай бұрын
Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) The people using their phones when stationary are very often the same people using them when moving. They only put the phone down because I caught them. 2) They are entirely unaware of people crossing the road around them. See here where a phone driver almost hits someone in the queue twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20 See this other tweet where a 5 year old child is almost hit by a phone driver who was stationary: x.com/cmdkenyon/status/1724483042046067052?s=20 And another: x.com/WelshBrendan2/status/1796099766557774129 3) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists, despite the Highway Code requiring us to be aware of this. 4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver. 5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily. 6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g 7) Policing phone drivers will help them stop other traffic offences too - it's vanishingly rare that someone only breaks a single traffic law like mobile phone use. 8) Parliament recently chose to strengthen the mobile phone law around stationary phone use because it's dangerous and the science supports this. I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

This guy is right. You always make sure that the people see you and you agitate them if they don't react. Because without reaction you don't really have a video that does well on KZbin.

Maximum respect for getting involved, he would have got away otherwise. I thoroughly enjoyed his exchange with officers where he differed from a good level of spoken English being born here and all, and dialled that down when trying to act the victim. He was literally trying to play the officers to give him an opportunity to run free, they didn't buy it. The backup that turned up probably would have been too late without your intervention. It was good you waited rather than contact police at another time to give footage... the officers seemed pretty good and fair with the suspect, no matter how many times he tried to trick the public in thinking the officers were assaulting him hoping they would all come out criticise the police officers so he can slip free.

First scene was a very awkward encounter, when he watches this back he is going to cringe so hard. The second clip was amazing 👏 what a shot with your bike, he went flying 🤣

Why is it that you’re hell bent on catching motorists breaking the law yet we never see you admonishing fellow cyclists who go through red lights? That’s ok in your eyes is it?
@debramitchell532 жыл бұрын
According to the little unstable aggressive man who jumped out of a car and tried to grab Mikey’s bike to show the woman in the car what a hero he was (that didn’t go too well for him😀), it’s apparently wrong what Mikey does reporting people who break the law??? Well done Mikey for stopping the man running off (no doubt the little unstable man won’t be happy you did that😀).

When that woman said you're a hero she probably didn't know you are indeed a hero. Thank you for your massive contribution.

What a takedown! 🤣 (By you, not the cops). It was bizarre how there were about ten of them and none seemed interested in speaking to the prime witness for ages.

He isn't - there is no current better way to change the ways of phone using drivers. Here's why: Speaking generally, you might think people will change after just being spoken to, but here's my experience: * Almost no driver will change their law breaking behaviours if I, just an "oik on a bike" ask them to. * A few drivers will change their ways after a police officer gives them words of advice. Most drivers will just go back to using the phone an hour or a day later. * Most people will change their ways after being prosecuted for lawbreaking like this, and yet still some will continue to re-offend until banned. * A few banned drivers will still continue to offend after regaining their licences. * A very few banned drivers will still drive when banned. The break-point in effectiveness is prosecution - drivers need to be prosecuted to have much chance of altering their behaviour(s) for the better. My views and experience are confirmed by a several of traffic officers who tell me exactly the same.

There's a strong defence in law for what I did. Minimum necessary force to help police catch a fleeing suspected offender.
