Very true. The poster looks like Elphaba is confused and lost while Glenda is whispering in her ear. Then there is the overly dramatic "looking down the barrel of the camera". The sanctimonious attitude of the whole thing and the incredibly sensitive pressers are too saccharine and a major turn off.

Sooooo agree Beebs. I'm sick and tired of these largely unintelligent people in the entertainment industry with massive egos. They should have it stipulated in their contracts that, if they do or say anything stupid during the promotion of the film that threatens its success, they instantly lose half of their earnings to make up for loss in ticket sales. Watch them keep their mouths shut if it has REAL consequences for them...and their money.

The media has a hand in the ego stroking, like that interview from Out Magazine, where Ariana is holding Cynthia's finger (weird, weird) while the pair of them and the interviewer are crying and talking about 'holding space' for the lyrics for Defying Gravity. Also long as the media does this kind of stuff, the actors/actresses are going to be absolute bawbags during interviews.

It sounds like Cynthia was expecting a backlash to her playing a main character because she's black, although painted green. There was the same drama queening about the actress in Snow White not being white. So it seems to me she overreacted because she was waiting for an attack and thought this was it. There was all sorts of the same nonsense over Barbie. There are real problems in this world. This isn't one of them😂

I'm not familiar with the story of Wicked, but aren't the two characters supposed to be equally important? If you look at the actual movie posters, Ariana's character seems to be secondary. Maybe that was her problem with the poster, that it put the two of them on a more equal footing. And all of that hand holding between her and Ariana was just weird. Beebs, can you address the fashion of this press tour? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It’s baffling to me how actors behave nowadays. They want to be the main character but their success depends on them being believable in their role. You want the audience to forget about Cynthia Erivo, the person, and only see Elphaba, the witch. Both Ariana and Cynthia’s scandals before their promo tour already were going to damage some viewers ability to believe. However, their behavior during this press tour has been ridiculous. They obviously take themselves way too seriously and why do they keep crying? Like you said, this is supposed to be a fun movie. They act like they’ve achieved something extremely serious and have changed society for the better. When they’re literally starring in a fun musical prequel to the Wizard of Oz and they’re not even the first people to play the roles. It’s all so absurd. I love musicals but I will not be watching Wicked. A big part of that is the actors behavior being so off putting. I was already hesitant because of the fact that they chose to split the movie up into 2 parts. Each being almost 3 hours long. It just does not sound like a good time. Cynthia and Ariana’s PR has done the opposite of what it was supposed to do. They have killed any interest I had in the film.

Their constant emotional breakdowns and stopping the interview to comfort one another and both constantly crying and declaring how great each other was . I was constantly rolling my eyes as they babbled on and on about how great and gorgeous they thought each other was and the way one would get emotional and start crying and then the other would start crying was not only cringe it was quite disturbing . Cynthia is in love with the sound of her own voice and she is also very much in love with herself and she makes sure that everyone understands just how fabulous Cynthia is. Her arrogance knows no boundaries. Even the interviewers were annoying as they kept feeding Cynthia's thirsty ego going on and on about how beautiful Cynthia is and how amazing and powerful her voice is and how the role of elphaba was made for her . I'm sorry but Cynthia is not beautiful she looks creepy and her voice is annoying and all that fake crying is fake and there is something real creepy about Ariana Grande at 32 years old talking in a child like voice . It's like Hollywood and Disney continue to churn out woman with bizarre behaviors who believe themselves to be better then their fans and that they can insult and berate every American who voted differently then they did . Rachel Ziegler is another toxic oddity who is in love with herself . Their narcissism is out of this world .

The movie is quite good but not the masterpiece some people say it is. Ariana steals the show and in my opinion, it’s worth seeing just for her. She’s a brilliant comedic actor and of course her singing is amazing. Cynthia’s reaction to that poster was super weird. I hope she managed to learn something and I’m glad so many people supported the fan who created it. Cynthia’s reaction felt like someone who’s spent too much time in her egregiously woke bubble. Someone in the real world would’ve said they loved it and thanked the fan or simply ignored it. PS: If people are going to see it, I recommend listening to the soundtrack first to get a feel for the songs. The music, especially in this “first act” is amazing.

I have enjoyed Wicked since I first saw it with an ex girlfriend on stage. I've read the book, own the soundtracks in a couple forms, and was actually looking forward to this. But first I was annoyed that they were cramming a three hour musical into like six hours... I love the musical, but what on earth are they doing to make this TWO movies?! And then, this WEIRD narcissistic temper tantrum by Erivo over the fan poster was the final turn off for me. Like, why was an actress making advertisement decisions regarding the movie poster. And her eyes were flat and emotionless. Like she completely missed the point of the actual Broadway poster. You're an actress... I've noticed that the actresses lately are kinda missing the point of their jobs. Like, Rachel Zegler during her first go out of many of making an ass of herself while trying to promote Snow White, kept using "we" for all of these story decisions. "We decided not to do that with this movie," "We wrote a movie for the 21st century," or something like that. She kept confidently speaking as if she was truly in there writing the story and script. You are a 23 year old self-obsessed kid, Rachel. The sheer hubris of thinking anyone asked for or needed *you* of all people to "improve" a classical European folk tale is a special kind of narcissism. We need to get back to actors and actresses having both restraint and at least feigning humility. Because we got to the stage where these people forget that they really don't have any more qualifications to speak on big issues, than any other layman. Yet they're out here, like Grande and Erivo, literally *crying* as if they're stupid six hour rendition of a three hour musical is saving lives or changing the world. I don't want to sound cruel, but your personal identity that you CHOOSE for yourself, doesn't actually give you any more meaningful insight on the human condition than any other person. Having a shaved head, questionable fashion, and changing pronouns are totally fine for you, if that's what make you happy. But come off this pompous arrogance, as if you're now some enlightened demigod who has the mandate of heaven to scold and lecture normal people who don't have time to play make-believe with you. It's obnoxious, off-putting, and super cringey. You guys are for entertainment purposes only. You hopefully offer a bit of diversion to distract us for a while from our problems. So making a giant ass of yourself and creating a clownish spectacle isn't helping you, your movie, or society...

I saw her fit about the poster at the time and decided then and there not to see the movie . She’s ridiculous and needs to calm down , the original broadway poster is far better in my opinion.

Hi Beebs! Have you seen the interview where Cynthia basically just say she is the most important and better Elphaba just cause her color and orientation? I am a huge Wicked fan, bur I have very low expectations of this movie. I love both actresses voices they are talented for sure, but the character is a very different thing and all that it carries. So I think the songs are gonna be good but the movie I´m not so sure.

Ugh, so agree Beebs! The Broadway play of Wicked is so good, I couldn’t imagine a movie ever being able to capture the magic. But now after this, I really am not interested in seeing the movie. Celebrities need to stop trying so hard to paint themselves at victims - it’s getting really annoying 😑

Is this why she and Arianna are crying everywhere they go?

She is an actress who made sure the press attention was on her instead of her co-star who in normal circumstances would have been the focus of most press bits since she had the name recognition.

No amount of PR will make either of them likable to me, Pass.

Feels a little like the barbie hype. Sort of being told how fabulous something is before its out. Makes me not want to see something
