I think Cyrus fail to understand the nuance behind common prosperity. It’s not communism per se.. but it’s a call to prioritise social well-being over quick gains and growth, inclusiveness and having social safety nets. Sanctions are about NO trade, requiring other countries to cooperate (which they often do not do) and sanctions ARE a trade war by design. Tariffs are about managed trade, do not require cooperation by multiple countries to work and help to avoid trade wars by promoting give and take between countries.

I was politically aware in the 2000s and Republicans that while they didn't have a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court, they still had a majority along with the presidency and Congress. Economic growth and employment wasn't great in addition to substantial increases in government spending led to a massive increase in the national debt. On the foreign policy side of things the US government was engaging in unnecessary, unjust and destructive wars in addition to trying to sanction Iran and North Korea (two countries of the so-called "Axis of Evil") into submitting to the will of the US government. None of those policies benefitted the US or the majority of Americans.
