12 years since I fell in love with such goth goddess like Daffney, I am currently still in pain how she took her own life. Ever since her release/retirement, I had never went back watching TNA since and had moved on back to WWE until my ultimate retirement as a wrestling fan earlier this year. I came to the Daffney bandwagon very late in early 2010 when I was still in high school during the late half of my 11th grade year and early half of my 12th grade year. Now, at nearly 30 years old, I'm still loss for words. There will never be another goth goddess/scream queen in wrestling as undervalued but remarkable as Daffney/Shannon. Even one day when I am gone. If she didn't had those concussions during her TNA days she would've still been with us. As someone who suffers from mental health issues myself, it hurts to see someone like Daffney/Shannon, whom I looked up to very late in her final moments in TNA in 2010, go through such a downward tumult after her time there. Never watched her during her WCW era. Didn't know nothing of her then when I younger in the late '90s. I was still a WWE kid in their Attitude Era days then. RIP.

Daffney was treated like crap by WCW and later TNA, who insisted on making her monster heel and put her in ton of hardcore matches never letting her properly heal, resulting in many injuries which TNA refused to pay for. This is one of the many reasons she left TNA and semi-retired. I remember her breaking her leg live on PPV, during one of the "monster bowl" matches, where they had one of the big monster heel guys throw her from top rope into the table outside the ring and she landed badly and broke her leg. She was screaming in pain and terror for like 3-4 next minute before match was finally over and she could get medical attention. It was only Abyss who came to check up on her (while still in character) because he noticed something went wrong and Daffney was seriously injured.

She was inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame for wrestling- Sept 1 2018 . Coincidence? Unsure. It's a significant date in my eyes and probably a very memorable date to her. I was a fan from 24 years ago and did not know her but felt sick to my stomach finding out about her demise recently. In my younger days I thought she was the most beautiful woman on television. The celebration of life on the Crowell Bros Funeral home website is very touching if you haven't seen it. After watching that and reading articles on her life outside of the ring , she was a Golden Soul worth saving. What a shame. I wonder why no one local could have physically stepped in to help (?) i assume this is quite common request but i am fascinated by life and sad end of it of Joan Laurer. In major part because she had immense charisma and it always looked like wrestling promotions did her very dirty, from Paul cheating on her to become WWF Heir to getting booted right out due to alleged behavioral issues it seems like instead of giving her help when she needed it she gotten shunned. Daffney dose sound like she was a lovely person.

She was in OVW for a while, I wish WWE would have given her a chance. Her character would have made a good foil to Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCo, and a lot of other women of that era.

People won’t like what im going to say but whatever. Women’s bodies were not designed to take the extreme physical abuse that comes in sports like wrestling or football. Bone and muscle density are different and while wrestling is entertainment the stunts are real. They definitely need medical benefits for the whole thing but women especially

Shannon was such a talent and deserved way better .tna and specifically Dixie carter,Vince Russo Terry Taylor and Mick Foley all have Shannon's blood on their hands.

What happened to Shannon was a travesty! TNA/Impact encouraged her to partake in Hardcore matches and other stupid shit to degrade and humiliate her. Shannon deserved better. People still have the nerve to call wrestling fake. Pre-planned and scripted, yes, but taking a gun to yourself because you can no longer deal with the physical and emotional pain of the business is very real. This independent contractor nonsense is complete bullshit!

Poor Daffney deserves so much better in life! coming up on the one year anniversary (The entire story is heartbreaking) it’s also very telling what Fans/Pro Wrestling Podcast think the night news came out about her death dozen of slime balls were uploading that last IG Live Video on KZbin… very few “big” name podcasters mention her Death but, yet they have to gush about the stupid WWE vs AEW “war” it’s also strange that not enough people called out CM Punk being a complete piece of garbage (Which if you look into Daffney’s past you’ll understand) Hopefully she is in a much better place 😢

There's too many of these kinds of stories. It really makes you reconsider being a fan. Ever since Vince's most recent depravity story broke, I've been reconsidering being a fan. I haven't watched WWE since the Benoit murders but it has me reconsidering the entire industry.

It’s so sad what happened to Daffney. She was good at both wrestling and managing. But she liked managing more though which was okay because there are some wrestlers were or are better at managing and talking than they are at wrestling. I wish she was still here. She would have been good in today’s WWE with HHH and Stephanie running things now. Cause if it was Vince he would have tried to pretty her up and then her into a diva like he did with most of his female superstars. Daffney was not like that. She was goth and punk type of wrestler which is cool cause not every female has to be a model type. I wish TNA would have got her some help with her concussions and mental health. Had she would received the help Impact promised her would still be here today. Daffney was the only wrestler who had never blamed WWE nor sued them for her concussions and injuries unlike most former superstars had in the past. Cause she really never wrestled for them like that. She was only in development for a few months. Daffney is truly missed. RIP
