are you sure? they seem really shallow these days about female talent. sherri wasn't bad looking by any means at all but didn't look playboy bunnyish like the ones today. if i'm right it's a shame.

No, she wasn't. Japanese female wrestlers were already miles ahead in terms of skill and in-ring ability and heck, she wasn't even the best american worker.`And as a manager, there were so many great managers back then, that she basically was nothing special either. Better than useless Miss Elizabeth or Slick, but miles behind the likes of Heenan, Cornette, Blassie and numerous others.

Sherri survived Grizzly Smith AND Fabulous Moolah. Can’t imagine how strong willed you’d have to be to be able to come out on top in dealings with either one individually but to manage that with both of them back to back takes someone special.

Sherri was the greatest all around female performer of all time. She could wrestle, she could talk she could work a crowd and had excellent ring psychology. An all time great valet and wrestler. She was cute when she was younger, then became a certified hottie as she hit her prime. Then she aged into an attractive middle aged woman. Never not attractive, taken way, WAY too soon, she could have had such an amazing impact on women’s wrestling and especially the women’s revolution if she had lived to be one of the female trainers for NXT; she would have been perfect for that job because her psychology was so strong. I love Sherri so much. Rest in Peace Sherri, we all still love you and will remember you forever.

I cannot help but wonder if her tragic end could have been prevented had she gotten the back surgery she needed. I imagine she was in an immense amount of pain all the time and addiction to pain pills is easy when you have a need for the relief they provide. Gone too soon. A pioneer, a legend, and far ahead of her time. Rest in power, Sensational Sherri. We appreciate you.

Bwahahahahaha. What did she "pioneer"? She neither was the first female wrestler, nor the first female manager. In terms of in-ring skills she was nothing special (especially compared to japan) and when it comes to Managers, she doesn't even rank in the Top 30 all-time. So how was she "a pioneer"? What made her "ahead of her time"? Are you really that clueless about wrestling?

Thanks for this great documentary on Sherri Martel. It was obvious that she was a hard worker and she wanted to make more of herself, yet didn't put others' careers at stake while doing so. I remember seeing her taking some incredible bumps from both men and women. It was too bad that during her time, women's wrestling wasn't given the much-deserved credit. Despite her personal struggles, Sherri proved that she deserved that above and beyond credit. Rest in peace, Sherri Martel; you're fondly remembered.

Sherri was TRULY the last of pure woman wrestlers. She had it all looks, charisma, and STRENGTH...!!! Their wasn't anything or anyone she was afraid of facing in that squared circle. Most people remember her as a valet i remember her for BOTH but never lost track of her wrestling accolades. Her feud with Luna Vachon another AWESOME female talent was classic in the WWF/E. Both are truly missed and the female talent of today should strive too be like these two women were. One that comes too my mind is Kia Stevens aka Awesome Kong truly one of the best modern day female talents.

She is unbelievable . Who can top Sherri ! My God she was cool . I had been training to wrestle for 6 months and only had a few matches . Then I had a tryout for Donnie P. And guess who is there to review our matches ? Sherri !!!! I was star struck ! Long story short . she was cool as can be . Told me what I did right and reemed my ass for what I didnt ! LOL ! But she was an absolute sweetheart and thats a moment I will never forget , I watched her my whole adolescent life in WWf , AWA and all the Apter mags and all in between . So meeting her in that setting , green as a gourd threw my whole mindset off ! But she was THE best wrestler in that era in the U.S. if not the world . Plus her promos were top notch . Is it not safe to say that Sherri Martel is one of if not the top womens wrestlers of all time ?

She'd have been great for the duration of the new generation era. Imagine resurrecting the rivalry with her and Madusa (Alundra Blayze) after concluding that storyline with luna. That "drug test" stunk of bs. For all we know she mightve been good for the attitude era for that matter. Vince clearly didn't take female talent seriously and if not for that, not only would her career (among others) in WWE would've been solid, but Vince would've only profited more. The same could also be said about Wendi Richter (imagine if those 2 also had a rivalry)
@glamgal7106
@glamgal7106 Жыл бұрын
I remember that storyline and that it stopped like it never happened. I was looking forward to seeing some matches between them. At the time, social media wasn't as prevalent and you had to know an "insider" regarding what was happening--that is, to find out the behind the scenes. I still tend to wonder about Vince's viewpoint towards female talent.especially with his recently retiring and the Sasha Banks situation. Once when I was at a live event, Madusa(Alundra Blayze)said after her match, "Hey Vince, give me some REAL talent." That was one of the few times I saw a WWE wrestler break Kayfabe at a live event.
@hughjass5756
@hughjass5756 Жыл бұрын
@@glamgal7106 Interesting observation. I wouldn't blame Madusa for saying that. Vince just didn't take female talent seriously and this is one of his downfalls. He was blind when it came to profit in that department. Too much emphasis on eye candy.

If Sherri was given the admiration by the industry that Moolah was given, then maybe we'd be 10 or 15 years ahead right now with women's wrestling. Lots of great women wrestling now, but there have been so many years where "divas" were little more than athletic eye candy. I think Sherri was excellent proof that female workers have a place in the industry and their place isn't just the sideline.

Personally I can't agree with that, Sherri was exceptional, Womens Wrestling is where it belongs somewhere on the undercard, it doesn't really Draw, and when it does is often for the wrong reasons! I'm just going to leave it there! I think everyone gets the what I'm saying!
@tammylewis2408
@tammylewis2408 Жыл бұрын
@@MrAnonimak I disagree with that!! Just look at Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Rhea Ripley, and all the others who are finally getting the airtime they truly deserve in WWE, and not just WWE, AEW also has great female wrestlers as well. Sherry would have fit in well with the current crop of women in wrestling and perhaps mentored them. I watched last night's RAW (8/14/23), and Rhea Ripley, literally beat up Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn, along with her Judgement Day cohorts. She was the only female in the group, yet she was one of the boys. That was Sherri's legacy, she was not afraid to instigate and be one of the boys. Shame that Sherri didn't get surgery for her back and neck issues as Edge did, and turned to pills to cope. My grandmother didn't like her character, she called her worse than "Scary Sherri", but I liked her. She made a great heel and manager and put Macho Man, Harlem Heat, and HBK over, and hearing she was nice in real life, made me happy. Usually, people who play heels are genuinely nice in real life. She truly sacrificed a lot to advance women's wrestling.

Sherri was a fabulous talent. I first saw her in the AWA...and through the WWF and WCW years. She was a better worker than most ladies who trained with Moolah, but her work as a manager stands out. From Precious to Sunshine to Babydoll to Dark Journey to Missy Hyatt, or even Luna Vachon...none was the promo or ringside presence of Sherri. Only Jackie Moore came close, but Sherri was a far better promo than Jackie. And from her shoot interviews seemed like a sweetheart.

She was a great character. I used to love to hate her. The old WWF days had no idea her career was so long.
