I get that every actor tried to put their own spin on the Bond character, but Craig's Bond felt so far out in left field with his semi-psychotic, ultra violence, super serious approach that I didn't even feel like I was watching Bond films at all and it felt like a completely different character than what Bond is. And that's coming from someone who liked Dalton's more serious approach as Bond. Craig was also not a handsome suave person either and shorter than the other Bond actors. He looked like a lunatic who enjoys killing a lot, and that's not how Bond is written. I definitely don't understand the hype with his Bond movies. I thought they were mediocre at best and his Bond just wasn't believable as British Agent with how much attention he drew to himself at times in his films. Glad his Bond reign is over.

You really nailed a lot of the problems I have with the Craig era. Another problem is that even though Casino Royale is supposed to be a reboot, and they're portraying Bond as BECOMING James Bond, they bring back Judi Dench from the Brosnan era to reprise her role as M. Doesnt make any sense. Their excuse was that, "Well, she's JUDI DENCH. We HAD to bring her back". No you didnt. In many ways Casino Royale was the first "requel". And I HATE requels. I actually did like SPECTRE because I thought that movie did a better job of mixing up the old with the new. And the train fight was great. I dont blame Daniel Craig, I think he is fine as Bond. I blame the producers for taking the series into a bad direction. I think the producers feel the reason the Bond series has lasted so long is because they were never afraid to "modernize" the movies and keep them "contemporary". But with the Craig era they just went too far and finally turned the series into something its not. If you look at Roger Ebert's negative review of Quantum of Solace it tells all that is wrong with the Craig era.

Good points (bruce wayne). in Quantum Bond neither saves the world or get's the girl. It reflects the issue that you mentioned....the direction that Barbara took the franchise. Once the "story arc" was greenlit, screenwriting ideas and options were limited. The films became TV melodramas, not stand alone adventures. A haunted depressed blunt instrument may have been closer to the Bond of the Fleming novels, but Connery himself said that his films were injected with humor with very good effect. Connery's and Brosnan's films had the right tone.

Could not agree more. Craig was aimed at the women, eye candy for them, pandering to them. Craig bond sucks. Casino Royale is a great movie up to the dinner with Vesper. Then it falls apart into a girlie story. Quantum was a bookend toCasino Royale. It was not so bad, but skyfall was terrible a man was Craig Bond creepy. Seducing a middle aged widow and a former sex slave terrified of her boss. It was awful. The franchise is ruined.

Casino Royale was a breath of fresh air at the time. The problem was that Craig's character never evolved after that. He was a hulking, sulking Bond who just made "mad faces" and never used his wits to get out of situations. There were hardly any memorable action stunt set pieces that you'd want to show anybody unlike the earlier eras where you can find scene after scene to show the grandkids and get thim interested in the series. Craig's era made the mistake of most of today's movies where they think we want movies that are basically psychiatrist's couch characters letting us know way too much about the characters' "feelings". Blech. That's not even how real life works. We want stunts not CGI in Bond films, witty dialog, exotic locales, clever villains, hot chicks (boy did Craig's era lack in that department!), cool vehicles, real car chases showcasing stunt drivers skills, and most of all super memorable action set pieces that stick in your mind forever. And for the record, *I* would love to be Timothy Dalton's James Bond. I can watch his two films every year (and have) and never get tired of them. Love all the Bond films flaws and all up through and including Casino Royale (but I don't rewatch that one as much as I do the earlier guys' films). After that... doo doo.

I guess you could say Daniel Craig is starring in some sort of action thrillers but they're not Bond movies. Brosnan should have been given 2 more movies before he left. Die another day had great potential in the start and became cartoonish midway. The next Brosnan bond movies should have been grounded and realistic. It was director Lee Tamohori who sealed Brosnan fate in Die another day. Meanwhile, EON finally managed to get the rights for Casino Royale and without gracefully finishing the Brosnan era, he was abruptly released stating that he ruined the die another day movie. It was not his fault. Barbra Broccoli and Michael J Wilson didn't see eye to eye with Brosnan when they filmed "The world is not enough"..I am sure if Cubby Broccoli was a live Brosnan would have still been bond. Daniel Craig's tenure did start off with good intentions but it lacked quality control and I believe though some of his movies earned well like Casino Royale and Skyfall (Well so did Die another day), it was haphazardly executed ultimately running out of ideas and it pushed the franchise off its tracks. So killing bond was the only thing to do. I didn't like Daniel Craig's depiction of James bond as a whole. Sam Mendes didn't like the bond franchise as a whole too; he said hes Skyfall and Spectre films were mediocre productions. Mark Foster who directed Quantum of Solace had not directed a single big budget or an action film ever. Another reboot again in bond 26..Facepalm..I pray a worthy actor will be taken to be bond.

True, all the Craig era Bonds stink. That includes Casino Royale (2006): its a dull, depressing, brooding, unfunny, boring, low rent, BBC level watered down version of a Bond film. The parkour and stunts also looked really dumb in CR, possibly due to Craig not fitting Bond, he looks like a Russian Spy in From Russia With Love. He has no facial expressions, no charisma, no nothing. Pierce Bond films were the best (and that includes Die Another Day) (And Moore films too!). They should have went in that direction, instead they went Bourne clone for 2 decades. Shame. Go back to gadgets, humor, better hotter Bond girls, more cheese, and better spy plot lines. I want invisible cars and all the crazy stuff and the espionage stories too.

Not tall enough, wrong colour hair and horrendous failed attempt at a posh English accent. 4 out of his 5 films were garbage. I left the cinema in 2012 after Skyfall feeling like I had not watched a Bond film. Bond died in 2006 when he got the role. Worst decision ever in the film industry to give him the role of Bond.

And though I enjoyed most of the films with Daniel Craig as intense spy entertainment, he does not have the ethos or the stature of most bond actors and it's not like you said fun entertainment. And I agree that the storylines were too much tragedy and repetitive. You give a great overall review. Right on!

I used to love James Bond. I checked out at Skyfall. I'd hated QOS, but watched Skyfall on a flight from Rio to London. Ugh! Any movie that features an old fart in a cardigan that is two sizes too small for him gazing into the horizon for minutes on end has hit rock bottom. I never watched any 007 nivues after that. If you want to make an action movie, old farts in cardigans is the worst way to go. And they hadn't even begun to go totally woke in that one. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a minus 50.

Even though i still enjoy Skyfall and Spectre, I absolutely agree with you with everything you said. You told the absolute truth about these 5 films. Personally i hated Casino Royale when it first came out. I still do. Quantum was super stinky. I actually enjoyed Skyfall, but after watching it a few times i seen what you were takking about. I do like the fight scene in Spectre vs Batista and a few other moments. But they definitely go full Austin Powers making Blofeld Bonds brother. Lol. No Time To Fart is dogshit.

Honestly I didn't enjoy Craig as Bond, I'll admit Casino Royale was his best and deserving of being among the greats but that's all really, he's an excellent actor but certainly not one of the best Bonds. I still forced myself to give his movies a chance except for the last one after hearing disappointing stuff about it.

Was watching this again and there are so many great points, but the M thing really bugs me. It's the kind of writing that conflates the audience with the character. The AUDIENCE cares that Judy Dench the ACTRESS is "dying". Bond doesn't care that M, the in-universe CHARACTER is dying in-universe. The fact that the audience is too dumb to understand this difference is what is so sad. It's like how the new Black Panther movie is celebrating the death of Chadwick Boseman, the ACTOR, in the movie trailers. This is how poor the quality of the audience's palate has become. It's why "member berries" are a real thing.

I have heard that some people say Craig's Bond is more faithful to the original character of Bond from Flemming's novels, but... I don't think that's an accurate comparison. If anything Dalton's Bond was the most like thr novels.

All your points about Casimo Royale are valid, but the idea of Bond becoming Bond should give the character some room to be different, to make stupid mistakes (and yes, his falling in love way too easily is a bit rich but it kind of helps establish his untouchable womanizing, which the Craig series quickly abandons. They should've kept him on for just the one film. Craig never stopped complaining about playing the part anyway -- he didn't deserve 5 films and imo all 4 of the others stunk. At least CR was interesting and violent.

Imo Connery was the best. Also stoic but with a wry, playful side, tough and cynical but fallible, capable of both humour and menace, and plenty of totally unapologetic masculinity. Craig's pouty, emo Bond would need a permission slip to spank a girl's bottom. Not sure what people saw in Brosnan though -- monotone sarcastic dandy boring to me personally but arguably closer to the books' character.

I’m glad it’s over. I only liked 2 of his Bond movies. Casino Royale had a great romance and action scenes and was easily the best one and Skyfall had a good storyline about James Bond having to rebuild himself after failing a mission and his dedication to M was put to test with the right usage of classic Bond tropes. I found Quantum Of Solace entertaining in a so bad it’s good way, i found Spectre to be a boring piece of overproduced shit and No Time To Die to be an abortion of a Bond movie.

James Bond was a Commander in the Royal Navy before being recruited into MI6. Can anyone see Daniel Craig's Bond as a navy commander because I certainly can't. With his attitude he would never have got anywhere near that rank and would probably have spent more time drunk in the brig than on the bridge of any ship. It took me two attempts to drag myself through Casino Royale and I thought it was boring crap. Quantum of Solace was even worse, Skyfall was tolerable but still pretty bad and Spectre was back to the bottom of the barrel again. I haven't seen No Time to Die yet but I probably will watch it just so I can say I've watched all the Bond films but I'm not expecting much from it. I know I'm in a very small minority of people who think the Craig Bonds are utter garbage but I am allowed to have my opinion even if it does differ from the masses so please respect it just as you would want me to respect yours. He does all the work to become a 00 and then every time things get a bit difficult he complains like a little boy. He does stupid things like executing a target in an embassy and getting himself plastered across the media. He is aware he's a "secret" agent isn't he? Then he gets angry when M orders Moneypenny to take the shot and that M should have trusted him to finish the guy. As an agent he should know that the mission comes first not his ego and should also know that due to all the movement in a fight, he might get hit and accept it as an occupational hazard. Instead he fakes his death and runs away. When he does return, he whines about it. I know people will say this is just because he hasn't become 007 properly yet and he does so throughout the films but I disagree. To have got to the stage where he was even being considered for 00 status he would have already had to have been around long enough and been experienced enough to fully understand the above points. Craig's Bond imo was too uncontrollable to have been given that much responsibility in the first place. I have read all the Fleming books though I admit it was a long time ago. I know he is a deeply flawed character in the books however imo Ian Fleming wrote that better than the Craig films scriptwriters. (I don't recall the book Bond ever being so disrespectful towards M that he would break into his home.) Also, the books took place in a different age and trying to precisely replicate that in today's world just doesn't work for me. At the end of the day it's just my opinion and its no more and no less valid than anyone else's. Everyone is welcome to their own opinion.

Tell you another bad Karma thing about NTTD which I've never seen the -spoiler that Bond died is a a real stomach punch . But logically if one blacklists this car wreck ( the worst Bond ever ? ) then a re- watch of True Detective series 1 is also blown away ( unless you got the download or DVD already ) That director and Broccoli are totally finished as far as I'm concerned - they need to recoup 900 million - hope they end up bankrupt and in the gutter never work again .

IMO best overall Bond was Sean Connery. Funniest Bond was Roger Moore. Most unique Bond was Lazenby. Worst Bond is a tossup IMO between Dalton and Craig. My favorite Bond is Moore as he combined cool with badass and a touch of humor, although Moore was Bond for too long and they should have switched after maybe 4 films to a new actor(too old at that point IMO).

I've said this on other videos, but I pride myself on the fact that I have not seen even one single Craig Bond all the way through and I never planned to. The real James Bond died in 2002 when die another day left theaters. That's also right around the time that a lot of Hollywood action movies started to get that overly serious realistic take on things which I think started with Batman begins. Suddenly every action movie had to have that gritty realism and having some fun with the material didn't seem to be what was "in". I just can't believe that we only got four Pierce brosnan Bond movies, but we got like f****** 10 stupid Daniel Craig ones. I agree with the poster, the movies are not fun and got way too serious and just didn't have the class of the originals. I hope with the new series they will go back to that that. The problem also is that because these newer ones take themselves so seriously, when ridiculous action scenes do happen, you're kind of laughing and cringing at them instead of going like WOW THAT WAS COOL. There were so many cool moments in just about all of the Pierce brosnan bonds and they make you really root for him when it happens. Yes, even the silly invisible car had some cool moments that were totally bond. But it was like you're in all but you're also having fun. I got no sense of fun or interest with any of the newer Craig ones.

I can't get warm with the movies, for me Craig is more the villain type, reminds me of a young Putin. Its so painful to watch. Especially when you come from Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton (I have to disagree on that one with you). Now how could you remake the movies: I miss the humility of bond, the hunger, trying things out, out of desperateness and because of that suffering in silence and having to fight injured more until than making it with some extra power to win instead of being handed tools and because of that acting semi conscious about what is possible and as a result dieing at the end because a lack of commitment. Its to smooth. Not raw at all. Now a question for you: How can Bond come back stronger than ever?
