Johns was always a serious musical artistic genius. His work ethic is unmatched. In 97, veruca salt and grohl talked about how they caught Johns doing vocal warm ups for hours before every show. He definitely worked his ass off to get to this level and beyond. I like the hard rock more. He does a lot of stuff that doesn't pull my trigger, but he's a master of everything he does.

I am 37 and I have had and continue to have the absolute pleasure of watching and listening as Daniel Johns evolves. One of the best qualities you can have, is the courage to express without inhibition, who you are, at any given moment. When you can do this, you're a success.
@chaiTV10 жыл бұрын
Silver lining found! Sometimes inhibitions are a good thing. In this case they would have prevented him from performing the world's worst version of Teen Spirit. But you're right, we should focus on the positives by forgetting he ever did this. Success awaits... he just needs to take more acid and more time off.

avedic Before Young Modern Dan said in an interview that he wrote an album but it was angry and didn’t want to do angry anymore so he hit the erase button. I really wish he hadn’t judged it as wrong as it probably would have been another awesome silverchair album without songs like Straight Lines or Greatest View which just about any idiot could write and way below what he can do. E.g. creating Emotion Sickness when he was still a teenager.

Most people (at least in the states) don't even know who Silverchair is. Any major following they had here died out a long time ago - so - I think it would be wishful thinking on Daniel's part to think that anyone even says Silverchair and Nirvana in the same sentence. This was beautiful, soulful, distinct, heartfelt, connected and pure. If you can't appreciate it, that doesnt mean it sucks. Unfortunately for you it means as a consumer your tastes in music and ability to hear, distinguish and value new and compelling sounds has not evolved whereas Daniel Johns ability to produce such things as a musician has. The fry cook that used to make your quarter pounders at McDonalds when you were fifteen makes gourmet food now, but youre still getting your dinner 'Drive Thru' Do yourselves a favour, truly take a weekend off Maccas music, go and train your tastebuds to skill up. This is probably the most relevant cover of Daniel John's career... Of course he (along with the rest of Silverchair) was a massive part of the grunge-rock movement in the 90's, like Nirvana was. Those were great times for music and that is recognized by all the grunge fans out there - but it wasn't without it's causalities. Layne Staley, Mike Starr, Kurt Cobain, Andrew Wood, Shannon Hoon, Chris Cornell and so many more died from either suicide or substance abuse. The 90's happened and then they finished - music continued to evolve. This song is a retrospective at the last 20 years of the grunge movement. Daniel Johns chose to cover this song in this delicate way because of his own personal progression as an artist, but also as a tribute to all of the people that were, sadly, left behind at the cost of this movement. The fact that he is covering the song with piano, harp and high pitched vocals is a further testament to the "fuck off" attitude of the times. I'm sure he knew it was going to piss some people off, but that's just it. Honestly, how can you put more passion into a song than this?

The people who just harp on about how Silverchair were only good when they were grunge annoy me insanely. Have you not heard Diorama or Neon Ballroom? You'll have to forgive a 35 year old Daniel Johns for not giving a fuck anymore about the angsty music he made when he was 14. Like, what do people expect? That he will keep making the same song over and over again for 20 years? Grunge isn't even a thing anymore - it was the music of the time. He would just look stupid if he kept on with it. As Johns said himself, The Beatles went dream pop. Silverchair stops playing grunge and their supposed 'fans' lose their minds. Emotion Sickness, Across the Night, etc. Those are the true treasures of the Silverchair catalog. Grunge brought them to the dance, but it's where they went after that solidified them as an iconic act in Australian music and my personal favorite. This performance is beautifully ironic and people who are saying it can't hold a candle to the Nirvana version or that he butchered it or whatever have completely missed the boat. Your Nirvana version you love so much is still there - go listen to it instead?

If he were alive, I think by now he would have done a lot of acoustical stuff, and who knows what else. He definitely would like this. I can't believe how many people in the audience are NOT cheering for this! Maybe the audio mix just has very little from the audience? I kept waiting for the fans to recognize what song this was and start cheering. Maybe they did recognize it, and were shocked? Or being respectful so everyone could hear it? (It's fine to sing along; it's music! But sometimes I just wanna hear the band/singer and not hear the audience cheering)

@@agallagher5936 Lets be honest, we would have not watched unless the man Daniel Johns name was not it the title. So AMAZING.

He can put pretty much half of the singers out there in shame. Jesus what powerful voice

Omg Daniel I love you! I love hearing your voice and raw songs like this showcase how great it is. Whenever I hear you sing like this I'm transported back to 1994! I love your version of SLTS. You are magic.

Yup, no instrument epitomizes punk like the harp.

Punk is an idea not a musical instrument. You obviously know nothing about that though...that must suck.
@folkrocksage96665 жыл бұрын
@@RedrumTheBeast An idea? I think "Punk" is more accurately defined as a musical genre or a subculture. You might even say it's an aesthetic or simply an attitude but, at the end of the day, the Ramones and the Sex Pistols weren't really into harps were they?

Nice to see Daniel back, never thought he would touch a Nirvana cover, very brave very soulful and completely made it his own. Genius as always! Nirvana covers always get some degree of hate from the diehard fans and he's just showing he don't give a f@cK. This makes it ever so brilliant

Most under rated musician in Australia. Musical and poetical genius. Have been a fan since I was a teenager when frogsromp came out. His voice just makes me want to close my eyes .. beautiful man ❤️

This gives a new depth to the song. The original was genius yet I can’t seem to see in the lyrics more than words colliding, here it turns into sense.
