I created a video with the same information, but received a ton of hate saying 'modern physics says the path doesn't send it'. 'Face sends and bends' 'Path bends'. Mostly by people that dont understand the nuance of the ball flight. First, I want to say everything you're saying is of course correct. I just want to add some nuance so people understand how you are reading it. For example at 1:52 would mean left going left doesn't have to be outside in if it curved a LOT left. That could be face sending left. But in your case you know it is in fact outside in, because the bend isn't enough (left) for the face to have caused the left. When the face cause left, with left square club path and left leave, left bend, the face will put immense spin on the ball. So this note is for people watching: Supposedly modern physics says the face controls part of the send as well. But when the face 'sends' it as well as bending it, the bending is MUCH more severe. Meaning a square path, left face, will send left, but will curve a lot left. A left shot, that doesn't bend much, is only a little closed to path. This reading of ball flight has nuance. That is what I am trying to say. I believe the path sends and the face bends is the best statement for nuanced ball flight. Even though my channel has ton of hate for me suggesting it. So I made a new video of modern and conventional ball flight arguing. Great videos. Cheers. M2

Impressed that my pro could sort my issues almost immediately, I asked how he knew what I did wrong. He said that the ball flight told him. I tend to come over the top (which he could also see) and slice, sometimes sky the ball and he showed me how to fix it on the course. Trouble is, I still often mess up on the course! :)

So many golf tutorial videos steer you toward a gimmick solution that typically includes the purchase of a product to "fix" your problem. Danny, I love this video because you provide insights into the basic components of the golf swing at the point of ball contact so that an amateur golfer such as myself is equipped to diagnosis the problem and implement interventions to achieve improvement. Agreed. I didn't feel that he could make anything better than his previous stuff because it's already so powerful. I'm not joking when I say I take lessons from one video and that's all I practice while I'm at the range. The one thing that no one can teach you is how to get to the very bottom of the arc. My son has been struggling with this and he wants me to give him some kind of definitive measurement. It's a feel thing. Some kiddos are naturally talented at this, others not at all. My guess is that the ones with the natural talent are the ones who maje it on tour. I believe it's linked to the sensorimotor part of the brain.

Not so fast. One can sky a shot, or slice/hook for many reasons. The Beginng golfer😮tilted to the right- and did it without the stuff that can bollix a swing, like pooor wt distrbution or altered hip alignment. I’ve done ‘em all til I got those details straight.😅
@davidkramer1942 жыл бұрын
@@PeterKennedyMD this video isn't for neophytes. Obviously you have to do those very simple things discussed. This is saying once you've corrected all of those things and you still can't piece it together this is why. I come way too far on the inside and I will get what they call a duck hook which can look like it's going straight and then dramatically cut straight left. By switching my stance up like I'm setting up to fade the ball helps with this. Danny never said that this is a miracle drug to help every noobie get onto the PGA. He's just stating that if you're not still leaving all your weight behind you and you know what plane and club path mean and have tried to manipulate them, then this understanding will save you years. Honestly there were two things that made my game improve by 40 percent. The first is actually fixing my grip. Do many noodles play a grip that feels comfortable to them and it wreaks havoc on their game. Just this one thing alone can show massive improvements. It wasn't until I bought SKLZ grip training aid that I could feel what it was supposed to feel like. Let's say I wasn't even close. Secondly the 50/50 drill is hands down an epiphany moment that I wish u could show the whole world. This is one piece I didn't get from Danny though I got from Porzak. It's 50/50 drill but technically should be called 45/45 since it's wrist hinge and turn to get on plane. This one single thing has helped all of my mates start hitting 40 percent better. Even when they do it silly and in pieces it still works. Getting and staying on plane is hard, one you figure that out then it's just fine tuning and muscle memory.

I think tension is important in the golf swing. Tension from the torque creates power, and power creates club pureness at impact which creates shots that soar through the heavens, landing on greens in distant lands which get turned into birdies and eagles so that the good news can fly back to the tee with the good news that salvation has cometh. G'day Danny, Back in the 1970's I bought Jon Jabobs' book "Golf Doctor" in which he said he did not need to see the player swing, all he needed was the ball flight. In the book, find the ball flight, then Jon explained what the player was doing and then explained what needed to be done to correct the flight. The book helped me, over several years I got down to a 10 handicap. Unfortunately, my "Ego got bigger than my ability" in trying to crack single figures I was swinging harder and faster, which as we know destroys the swing. I went out to a 16 handicap, but I managed to get to 10 again. My comfort zone turned out to be14 h'cap. Now I am 78 I've lost some distance off the tee, fortunately, my putting keeps me in the game. I learnt all my golf out of books, I should have had more lessons. over several years

The great John Jacobs mantra was the golf ball flight never lies. He produced a video very similar to yours Danny which I watched 30 years ago. It was wonderful to be reminded of these immutable laws of the balls flight and its relationship to the golf swing.

I used to have that series put out by John Jacobs. They were introduced by Sean Connery: "Even though we Scots invented the game of golf, we still have to learn how to play it, and we want to play it well." It was so old it was on Beta! John made a point of saying that there are basically 9 paths the ball follows. The initial flight of the ball tells you the path (right, straight, left) of the club, and what the ball does at around 100 yds or so (fade, straight, draw) tells you the if your club face was open, square, or closed relative to that path.

I'm very much in the first family: good shot is a "push draw", errors are either a big hook (most frequent) or a block (less often). I know I'm too "in to out" and should move the ball forward more, but I'm still rather shallow and moving the ball leads to big tops or occasional fats... Good thing is, as I've known that stuff for some time already, I can work on straightening out my flaws! And your video gives me additional confirmation that I'm indeed right in my diagnosis!

Great video Danny; all golfers need to know what causes each ball flight. But I’ve played the game for 65 years (I’m 77) and have known this stuff for years. My problem is, and always has been, consistency. If I hit a pull hook, I can fix it on the next swing…and hit a big block to the right. If I hit a push fade, I can fix it on the next swing…and hit a big hook. What I can’t do is simply make the ball go where I want it to on a reasonably consistent basis. It’s a lifelong problem, and sadly, one that I’ll take to my grave. Having the knowledge is great, but in the end it all comes down to execution. That’s why there are pros, and then there’s the rest of us. 🤪
@DanielMaude2 жыл бұрын
It’s like riding a bike, at first you fall to the left and then you overcompensate and fall to the right until you eventually achieve balance. The first thing I always like to do is get the golf straitening out their ball flight by having control over the club face. If you pull hook the ball let’s turn that into a pull. Feel what you’ve done to do that. Change of ball position? Change of grip or stance? It’s important to figure that out first

@@DanielMaude I played yesterday and it was very successful, I shot a 85. So the other improvement I made was the amount of pressure on my grip. I barely held the club at address which allowed me to be calm, my arms were relaxed, which allowed me to easily rotate which was my biggest problem. I continue that approach to the game and OMG what an improvement! I'm sticking with that and going to play Saturday to confirm it still works, lol. Thanks again!

Hey Danny great video. I start the ball either straight then hard left, or even worse, starts left then off of the property further left. Fighting this for ten years now. Thank you for this video!

This makes perfect sense and has been really helpful but what are the best ways to get a feel for correcting the swing once I realize what I’m doing. I’m definitely hitting a lot of shots late and going left but I’m struggling to “feel” the difference if that makes sense

Which one of them? Yes!. :) AND... you gave us pretty much everything we need to start shaping out shots. As always Danny, your simple discussion and polished technical delivery of approachable tips is invaluable. I turn 60 next year, and after watch countless of your videos that I send her, my wife just told me to start planning my birthday trip to see you at Canterbury. I know chances might be slim that you are available, being a YT star and all, but I'm hopeful. As always, thanks for your contributions and I still wish you would put up a Patreon.

Great video. I recently came across John Jacob's work who famously said "Golf is what the ball does." It's new to me, but I'm surprised you didn't learn that early on since you're both British and he was such a prolific teacher.

Thanks Danny. I do analyze my ball flight. I actually use it to play certain shots when there’s out of bounds left or right. Great information Danny as always!

With driver especially I’m catching it late with either a closed or open face. Irons at times late and closed face. This makes a ton of sense. Thanks for this Danny

I bounce between them at first I was going right all the time, after some adjustments more to center but a few to the left now and then...this explained what I am doing perfectly, I adjusted my position to the ball, which changed my point of impact. This video put it into simple understandable terms...

First thank you, I understand what you are teaching. So many of your videos have helped me in the past. For me this one relies on what are you doing consistently. If you are all over the place you are are not controlling the club face and I think you have to learn that first. I’ve only just started to hit consistent and mostly straight because of your teaching

A brilliant lesson as always, Danny! I had another issue that isn't covered here, and that was a cheap, poor-quality driver. I just used it to start out, to try and get my swing back, and then I started to lose my mind with inconsistencies regardless of corrections. I developed a feel for what the club was doing, and realised it was way too whippy! I asked a pro at my driving range for an opinion on it, and he confirmed exactly what I concluded. A test drive with a good club at the range ensued, and I now have a brand new driver that cost as much as my entire beginner set of clubs; but, it's like day and night! So much more consistent. Perhaps that would be a good video for your beginner viewers, how a cheap driver can throw you off... Cheers!

I learned this 50 years ago. The first 50 yards tell the swing path the last 50 yards tell where the club face was facing. Fixing it was the problem. The best drill I had was to put the ball off the right foot and hit 1/2 shots and try to hit it toward first base, move the ball forward and try to hit it between first and second. Move it more forward and hit it toward second base. I hit my first draw after that. Taught me to swing from the inside.

Danny, WOW!!! I followed your advice here and my mind still cannot believe the results. I watched this video the other day and I will admit that at first I thought "sure another guy with golf tips that probably do not work either". I like golf but am not as good as I would like to be. I average in the 90's and on a good day can break 90. I do not practice enough to be consistent in ball striking. I am 6'2" tall an about 300 pounds - I have been told that my driver swing is all arms, but if it is straight will go around 250 yards. For all those reasons I have the capability to produce an awesome slice. That is the back story. So, as I was saying, I watched your video and armed with this information went golfing Tuesday, I had not had time yet to practice this technique. I decided to try it on the course... Every driver tee shot went STRAIGHT! Right down the middle of the fairway and I gained 30-40 yards (my mind was in disbelief every time, it just didn't make sense to me). Thank you! you are the real deal! I will put this into more practice for sure. Andy from Ohio USA

Your lessons have tremendously helped my skill and enjoyment of the game. I’ve gone from max to about 25 handicap. I can hit high draws and straight shots. I get instant feedback on ball flight. I could easily see myself dropping to a 12-15 handicap in the next year if I keep practicing based on lessons you’ve shared for driver, irons, and chipping. Thanks for your contributions to the game and offering free guidance to people that need the help while maintaining affordability of the sport.

I have been moving the ball more and more forward because I was coming down on the ball with my driver and needed to be sweeping up more at impact. I am doing great at sweeping up and getting great contact but now I have the huge slice to the right. Great height and ball flight it just peels to the right. Thanks for the explanation, now i know I have to work on sweeping up and stop moving the ball so far forward because I am always late to the ball. I used the ball placement to fix an issue but created a new one in the process lol , Golf is hard. Thanks again.

I found that with the driver I wanted to bash the bajingas out of it and so many mistakes happened.. I've now learnt to relax and let the driver do it's thing (also from one of your videos hahaha!!). Hi Dan, I am returning to golf after many years of not playing learning so much and trying to put into place in my game I am now classed as a senior and playing with my Son in Law and 6 year old Grandson, who has an amazing swing already, I think for me its about slowing down the swing and trying to get consistancy
@terryclarke19212 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny I am a left hand golfer / cricketer but everything else is righthanded eg tennis,writing catching football & throwing etc but have issues with slicing & topping the ball but this video & some of your others really seems to have helped significantly to eradicate these & now hit the ball much straighter but also getting older (67) & in doing so has seeemed to have reduced my distance where driver seems to be at 120-130yds & 7 iron for example is round about 80-90yds average distance. I always thought this was due to bad hips & a poor turn but now after having both hips replaced & now rotate more freely & still seem to struggle with increasing distance. Like us all have gone down the track of changing clubs even tried playing righthanded better than I thought I could be & perhaps spending more than I would like to think about even had a fitting a couple of weeks ago & was told a 'new set of clubs' would give me a little more but not greatly, so having done all this I have seemed to have hit a bit of a wall distance wise, which you are well aware you feel under pressure even before you hit the ball if the guy in front of you fires a 5 iron 165ish & you giving the 'Full Beans' get 150 with driver & that on a real good day. I am aware that I have been told I have a slowish swing but have now even bought some Ping G10 with senior shaft but still struggle with distance & now I have noticed I also do struggle getting the ball in the air. I watch you with Golf Mates Liam playing your 9 hole match & yes I am not getting the ball in the air as on ttrackman at the local range was hitting between 20-30ft in the air with bothe 7 iron & driver & not anywhere those distancs I would have expected I have also realised my shot donot get into the air the like of yours & others so now is really taking away the enjoyment of the game. Being an engineer by trade have tried loads of things to solve my problem & now am at a loss to reslove it but I KNOW there must be something simple wrong I hope as just cannot understand why I am so short on distance & height any help would be appreciated

Spot on Danny. My ball virtually always goes straight, however as a tendency more right. It's not alignement, I checked that. So I must be hitting it too soon. I know when I get the compression right, I flies straight. At least I now know. Thanks.

The video is A1 Danny. I bought the Garmin portable swing monitor to get this data (club path, face angle, face to path angle, attack angle) and it's been brilliant in helping to understand what's going on. OK it's not a Trackman, but it does give this data and is really helping me (along with your excellent videos Danny).

Thanks Danny, I'm a right handed golfer. My drives normally start off going right and then turn big left - may be 80 yards of pull but I do get some straight right push shots. I've moved the ball further forward in my stance and worked on a square face at impact and it's going well. I can see that I was hinging my wrists too early in an effort to get the face back to square because of the ball position and that was giving me some very inconsistent results. Very clear instructions.
