I stumbled upon your decluttering videos in August and I’m so glad I did. I really enjoy watching you. You are funny, real, and you even had me crying at one point because I could relate so much!! I have a lot of clutter, that’s why I found your series. I needed to find someone to give me the motivation I needed to get started. I’m tackling spaces rather than entire rooms for now. It makes it more manageable. I am just starting my decluttering journey, and I’ve been recording myself as well. (I suck at making videos, you are so much better.) I’ve done my fridge, my coat closet, my linen closet, and my dressers and coat closet. I also have a hard time letting go of sentimental items, and I have lots of those. Keep making your videos please, don’t take a course either. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be on my way to a less cluttered house. I appreciate you! Thank you!!!

I'm so sorry luv. it is so hard going through the items that were passed down to us from the people we have loved and lost. The sentimental items that you are having a hard time parting with: take nice pictures of the items. Then if you want to, you can change them to black and whites (or leave original) and do a gallery wall somewhere. You will still have the items, they will just be “new” again. 💜

There are so many reasons people hold onto items. You're trying to be a person your not(make up, clothing). Attempting to live up to the pinterest perfect home(housewares, decor). The Memories attached to items(gifts or handme downs). The Money you've spent on items giving you guilt. The fear of letting go of items you will need later. The biggest thing I recommend to clients I am helping to declutter is to have them do a "no buy". Start in small chunks, no shopping for a week, month, year etc. Whatever it takes to fit your needs. You have to use what you have. If you don't, out the items goes. Too many of us shop because we are bored, and use shopping to find fulfillment. Each category can have different set times. Example: No toiletries for 2 mo. No makeup for 6 months, No new clothing for a year, No decor or housewares for a year. Etc.
@danniraearranged3 жыл бұрын
WOW! You are SO SPOT ON! I cannot tell you how many times i have done all of the above! The feeling of failing because my house isnt perfect, the fear of keeping something because of the "what if", the guilt of letting something go because it was passed down to me or the guilt of spending money because I used to do mindless shopping, I used to stress shop too and then would immediately feel guilty because of the money I spent and when I did mindless shopping or stress shopping, that was usually the times I purchased things that I really didnt want, need or use, I just shopped to shop and then would feel so guilty afterwards, it was a vicious cycle . I LOVE LOVE the idea of a no shopping for a period of time, I'm SO DOING this!!! I'm going to pick out some of my most bought items and set a specific amount of time that I cant shop that item(s) omg BRILLIANT! I appreciate this so much! Thank you for commenting, watching and being here! So HAPPY you're here with me!

It’s the best feeling when you literally don’t have anything in your house you’re afraid to loose. Like you said, it’s just objects. I don’t value objects, I value people. I don’t value a gift I was given from a friend like I value that friend as a person. That doesn’t mean I’m not grateful for gifts, but if I decide to declutter it I don’t feel guilty. When we put value (especially sentimental) into objects we can’t let go of it. I’m only keeping the things I LOVE. I’m not keeping things JUST because my best friend gave it to me. That object is not what I will remember them by. I will remember them by the warm and loving feeling I get when we’re together. I remember when I was at the stage you’re at now and you are well on your way! Keep working at it and soon enough you will find yourself in a house that’s minimal, organized and clean! 🙂👌❤️

I am currently working on a better more organized system for all my social media platforms, but I also hope I can create something that is a fun way to interact with all of you, my friends here with me 🥰I also wanted to say that I couldnt agree with you more! Its not about the object, its not about the things, its about the people we love and who love us, the memories we share and create. I also think that I hold a lot of guilt letting go of things that people have given me, gift and so forth. I most definitely hold guilt of things that were passed down to me or things that were handmade. Letting go of the guilt is hard but our loved one, family and friends wouldnt want us to feel guilt, or stressed or burdened by the things they have given or passed down to us. It does seem to get much easier as time goes on as I continue this journey. Its been an incredible journey. Thank you so much for watching and being here, so HAPPY youre here with me xo

But as you stated "its not them" A lot of what I kept wasnt my style either and it is stressful trying to find a place for it. I dont think they would want us to be stressed or feel guilt over there stuff, I had to remind myself of that as well. I have to start getting into the habit of taking pictures of the objects that I really just don't want but also don't want to part with, and I think once I get into the habit it'll become a lot easier. So happy you're here with me, thank you!!!

It can be so hard, so difficult to let your stuff go, especially the sentimental items, that is hands down the hardest for me to let go of. Its not always easy and definitely a marathon not a race! There are times were ive felt so emotionally drained. But really giving yourself grace and being patient with yourself is so important! I honestly could not imagine going back to how it used to be, it truly is so freeing to rid yourself of all of the clutter. You got this!!! Thank you so much for watching and being here with me!!!

if your grandmother really loved you - and I"m sure she did - then she would be upset that she burdened you will all these feelings over STUFF - I know right now she doesn't care at all - she just wants you to be happy....and loving her and remembering her is the highest honour you can give her - not holding onto stuff that makes you have all these feelings....let it go...♥

This is why I don’t give my daughter things I’m getting rid of, as things get discarded I pop them into a couple of boxes or bags, when she visits, usually 3/4 times a week she has a look through in case there’s something she would like. Works for us, I don’t want to burden her with the ‘stuff’ I no longer want or use. 😊

As a way to declutter, I keep some books and things I no longer need. When I go visit friends (good friends who understand me), I take them a book or an item as a little gift. I tell them that if they don’t want it they can trash it or share it with someone else. It’s a fun practice.😃

LOVE this! What a great idea! I'm actually going to start doing that more often. I do that periodically for close friends and family, I think that is such a great way to get things out of the house and also give a gift to family or a friend! Again thank you so much for watching and being here with me xo

I have a recipe from a church published cook book with two of my Grandma's recipes the pages are stained but I treasure them and they represent her in one of the best ways. Everybody loved her sweet potato pies. She always made sure everyone was fed good southern home cooking. I'm trying to find the perfect shadowbox to display it in along with her mother's apron.

I'm emotional reading this comment! Your grandmother sounds like an amazing, kind, loving, wonderful woman! I bet she was an amazing cook/baker...mmmm sweet potato pie, bet that is SO GOOD! There are somethings you have to keep, somethings you'll cherish and treasure forever, that is definitely a treasured item, along with her mothers apron, how special that is that you have that and I think that is such a beautiful idea for your grandmothers recipes/cook book and apron! Your so creative!!! I wish I was as creative as you! Luv and appreciate ya so much lady! 🥰

Write a journal of important events each month. You won't forget special times. You can buy pocket journals too to hold pictures, artwork etc.

I totally understand the sense of urgency to remove or donate certain items as soon as you make the decision to let them go. Time breeds hesitation and doubt then suddenly you’re digging them back out.

For things that are attached to people Such as your grandmother's vase...if you don't think you are ever going to use it What about repurposing it ? Putting pencils in it in your office, or small tools near where you do your crafting ?; That is what I have done with things like that which are attached to people that I love
@danniraearranged3 жыл бұрын
I LOVE the idea of repurposing sentimental items, brilliant! I think I may need to slow down a bit when decluttering because you all give me the best idea, tips, advice... repurposing it would have been really special. Unfortuantley I did let it go, but I hope whoever gets it, really, really loves it! That would make my grandmother very happy! However I do think with the sentimental stuff, from here on out, if im really questioning something, ill hold off and wait for the comments, because you all are seriously so creative and come up with the best ideas!!! LOVE IT! AS ALWAYS SO HAPPY to see you here with me xo

Ok my last comment I swear I had your same breakthrough a few years ago I too am so sentimental and don't want to lose my memories of my loved ones and our shared past So I kept allll the things Then it hit me outta the blue That no matter what, I get to keep the love I have for these people, I get to keep the love they have for me, even if they have passed away, & I get to keep the memories. I may have to write down the funny stories in a journal and keep a good picture of them, or me with them, yet no matter what I get to KEEP the love and the memories And so do you 😊 no one can take away your memories of your kids first words or their first steps. Those are yours and theirs 💜💜💜
@danniraearranged3 жыл бұрын
You could never write me enough comments, keep them coming, I love all of your comments, I love reading all of your comments. This comment made me emotional! Because it's so true. Things are not what matter, it's people who matter. I love how you put this, because it truly isn't the object that holds the memories for us or the love it's us, it's the people who we love and who love us. Just so beautifully put. I think that that is such a great idea to write down/journal the special and important memories and moments in our lives. I love the idea of journaling it. And I think that once I start getting used to taking pictures of the items it'll just become habits, because I do think that is the best option for me, take pictures and that way I have a part of the object just not the object itself. Because I know myself and I would keep all of the things, but then carry all of the stress that comes with having all of the things. Can't tell you enough how much I appreciate you luv. Thank you for always being here with me!!! 🥰

Girl .. try a quarantine box for sentimental or unsure items .. revisit it another time ..and don't get so stuck in the process .. its not easy ..its a process .. So glad I'm at the tail end of my de clutter journey ..
@danniraearranged3 жыл бұрын
I love the idea of a quarantine box, especially for the sentimental items or items were unsure of. Anything to help not get stuck in the purging process. It's something that I tell myself all the time before I declutter "don't get stuck in the purging process" I guess sometimes it's easier said than done. I look forward to when I'm at the tail end of my decluttering journey. It's been quite a journey, but I can't imagine ever going back to how it used to be. Thank you so much for watching and being here, I'm so happy you're here with me. (PS sorry for the delayed response xo)

oh my....listening to you talk about your stuff and should I or shouldn't I? I have been bringing stuff to goodwill and putting things at the beginning of our driveway for the past 4 years during good weather. Things that I just couldn't get rid of one year I ended up getting rid of the following year. Not saying it was easy cause I have a lot of the feelings you have and I still struggle but my home is getting decluttered and it makes my mind feel better. I am going to do some of the things that Erin Bisson talked about in her comment. Thoroughly enjoy your videos and I get happy and motivated by them. You are doing great and wish you the best to accomplish your goals.
@danniraearranged3 жыл бұрын
I know exactly where you're coming from! Decluttering, removing your stuff can be such a difficult process to go through, especially when we are attached to the item and apparently I have sentimental attachment to more things that I thought I did. LOL. I too have made a lot of trip getting rid of my stuff and I still feel like I have a long ways to go. its definitely a journey, but like you said, we feel better, our mind does feel better. I couldnt imagine going back to how it used to be, its freeing to let go and to have a clutter free home. Your doing AMAZING!!! You got this! You are so sweet , I appreciate ya so much!!! thank you so much for watching and being here, so HAPPY your here with me! xo

I did that. I took a picture of some sentimental items that I just didn’t really need to keep anymore and didn’t want to get rid of strictly because of sentimental reasons. But I took the pictures and that enabled me to let the items go

Hi Danni You are doing great. Every week your life and mind are benefiting from all your hard work. When you are debating what to keep or donate, you should remember how much joy walking into a room that is clear of clutter feels and how easy it is to do a quick clean. By the way the tv area looks great without the speakers (I feel you are working towards getting the t v mounted on the wall) 😀

Sometimes when it’s hard to let go of something sentimental I try to think of another way I can use it or paint it or something. But some things you do need to let go of. I kept my grandmothers mirrors and spray painted them to match my decor.
