That's what happens when a new skip is discovered. Depending on what it skips, it makes everything else obsolete. And since Dist is really good at refining his strats and gets better at recognizing ring almost every run, he just blows through records at Mach speed.

Distortion2 is nuts. He goes from speed game to speed game, spends 50+ hrs/week mastering the movement mechanics & near TAS’ing execution of EVERY speedrun trick known (these took YEARS for all of humanity’s intelligence to find). Then distortion2’s superhuman IQ finds new strats, works his ass off for ANOTHER week. BAM, NEW WORLD RECORD BABY! The former wr holder applauds, thanks dist for sharing his skill/knowledge. Dist moves to his next game. And this is why I respect distortion2 so much

I finally sat down and played and finished DS2 after having played all the other games in the series and it just left me feeling very sad. I enjoyed it, even though it's a hot mess, but it just could've been such an amazing game and it's so tragic that it ended up not being so. Still very fun to watch amazing players running it though!

Your second guess was correct, I think its comparing it with his best run though, sometimes he presses the button himself, sometimes the program will do it for him, it depends on the game I think?

yes and no, it was rediscovered after being thought to have been patched out back when the game was still sort of new, a little after the speed glitch was with the binos, but recently it's been rediscovered by a glitch hunter looking to get the 1,000 dollar reward distortion put out for it. it was originally thought to only work on 24 fps and with butterfly set, but has been found out that it can be done on 60, originally with binos, but then by angling the reposte jump.

For the Moon Butterfly Skirt, it can only be bought after you spend 15.000 souls and are on a NG+ cycle. It allows jumping without sprinting and increases your jumping distance, which is pretty much what allows him to parry-walk consistently.

The OG unpatched version of parrywalk is able to change elevation & last until death or attack animation. Having those functions in DS2 vanilla makes it a separate category

@@wartortle577 you need to have a piece of the butterfly armor that gives you standing jumps (you can jump wothout running while wearing them). Speedrunners use the pants. Then, after you parry an enemy, you initiate a riposte and jump at the same time. You know you did it right if you jump over the enemy, he stays on the ground, and your character jitters around a bit after landing. This puts you in the 'parry walk' state, and while you're in it, you cannot fall. You can raise your elevation by walking up slopes but you cannot go down in elevation without walking against a ceiling with collision. This only lasts 28 seconds, and if youre in the air when it ends, you will fall down like normal to the floor below you and take normal falling damage

You always have to consider the amount of time it takes to get an item when asking a question like this. If there was a way to work it into the route maybe, but typically items not considered, aren't because it'd be a waste to get them.
