I realized I was dealing with a very toxic narc when I was careful not to share good news with them in case it might upset them 🙄

Incase it will upset them and then they will sabotage it for you. Or try to take it from you some how.

I'm pretty sure my mom is envious because my adult life is "easier" than hers. If it looks that's way to her, it's because: A) I always try to look on the bright side, despite my childhood trauma B) I make wise financial decisions on a low income C) I have a healthy relationship with a man who actually respects me The ironic thing is, I learned what NOT to do by watching my mom

Narcissists project their own pettiness onto other people.

I've noticed some of these traits in a friend of mine. When I share good news, magically he has even better news about something that happened at some point in his life but there's never any substantive proof OR news he doesn't want to share with anyone else who would know the truth. It gets seriously exhausting.

All so true and that envy/jealousy can definitely trigger a smear campaign. Crazy to have someone you just met slandering you in that way.

I see it as narcissists are jealous of losing us and envious of everything we are that they are not. They need us to survive. We don't need them.

i think we all experience envy/jealousy at times, but non-narcs recognize it and are able to push it aside, or adjust their perception, whereas narcs do not, instead, finding "fault" in or with the person they're envious of, devaluing them in their own mind if not more broadly via smearing, or at least that's what i've witnessed. it can be very petty, too. ie someone buys something not huge or super expensive, even that they enjoy - and the narc would like it too, or could appreciate the other person's enjoyment or join in the enjoyment, but instead, devalue the item. i watched that exact scenario transpire on social media! if it's something more significant, like someone's career or success that the narc envies, they'll devalue/degrade the person, to make themselves feel better/than.

Thank you Darren! Your information is totally correct. I am in “golden years”, and subject to the “wrath” of so called women friends because 3 years after my former partner died, I pulled myself together, lost 90 lb. , went to counseling, cleaned out my house, etc., and now have a new gentleman in my life.

Yes, thank you, Darren. Excellent video, again. Like some other comments below, I have learnt not to tell some people about any successes, achievements or accomplishments (new job/new qualifications/future plans (resources), etc.) because, rather than these people being happy for me, they try to figure out ways to turn my resources into their provision to make plans with for their own gain. When this is pointed out they act like I’m the problem. It’s best to say nothing.

Enlightening, and depressing, lol. My two eldest sisters fit this bill. The eldest couldn’t stand that I got anything she didn’t get. She constantly would bring up stuff like “Dad gave you a kiss when you graduated (from university). He didn’t kiss me!” It’s exhausting to think about, and my psychologist tells me not to.

Depending on the relationship, status-sensitivity manifests as prestige-by-association (with the powerful) or defensive one-up put-downs (of assumed competitors). It must be exhausting to waste one's life in such a depleted worldview.

Wow, I dealt with all of this after being stalked, hacked, harassed, sexually assaulted, obessed over, and annoyed for 2 years. He evaded court hearings for a restraining order, lied to attorneys, ignored police complaints, which made him a coward as well...he wanted no accountability for his actions...a true child in the mind, heart, and soul. What I know now is to leave this child in the corner in time out to cry and throw their tantrums cause they will. Live your life and be happy and let them stay mad about it, cause if it isn't you, it will be someone else! Dont try to help them, help yourself, and remove all of you from their life, no matter the lengths they go to, to avoid abandonment by chasing after you!

I have these toxic people in my life, filling the World with their lies and deceit, to prove to everyone they are the Greatest Superior Ones, and portraying my God giving Talents as insufficient and I should, be exploited as inferior. And not worthy of any respect from these deceptive lies. To feed the inner narcissist character, in this spotlight to everyone in their circle

Darren thank you for this video. It was heartwarming to hear how you mentioned family. One of my siblings has inherited this trait from our father, who both have the same persona of a Dr Jekel and Mr Hyde. From what you have mentioned is certainly spot on. The sibling always enjoys taking the spotlight in social media after obtaining information from me and then makes out if the sibling does it on its own accord and I never get the credit.

My husband's mother hated me for taking her 'little boy' away from her & for having the daughter she blamed her husband for not giving her. She was jealous of everything i had & did. She did a super brainwashinf job on her other son, convincing him he was too ill to get married or even have relationships, esp with women. She used to make up illnesses for him from a young age, convincing him she was the only woman he needed in his life as no other woman would understand him like she does. She used to bsth him & even sleep with him when he was in his teens when i married his brother. He stayed with her until the day she died when he was nearly 60yrs old. She eventually got her own husband on her side - he previously could see through her ridiculous nonsense but she managed to turn him too in the end. These people are sick degenerates who spread their brand of evil - &, sadly, they walk among us.

Thank you Darren. These videos are so helpful. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on why there seems to be so many narcissists in todays society? Has it always been this way, or are there particular social and cultural aspects that are creating more narcissistic personalities, or are we just becoming more aware of it? So many of us are having to wake up to this problem in our significant relationships, and put in a lot of hard work to create boundaries and keep ourselves safe. Can we make any sense out of it at all?

It's an ancient problem: you see examples of Narcissism in the Bible: Nabal, a Narc-fool who angered King David by the rude, boorish way he treated the king. Jezebel and Ahab, both wicked and both Narcs. Ahab considered one of the most wicked Kings in Israel's (ancient) history, and Jezebel considered possibly THE most wicked woman in the entire Bible. King Saul, who was rejected by the prophet Samuel and replaced by the shepherd-boy David, who was considered THE greatest King in Israel's history -- though for a season Saul viciously pursued and abused David out of ENVY and jealousy (sound familiar?). Such a stark contrast throughout the Bible between Wicked Narcs and the righteous men and women they abused. Ugh.

My narcissistic sister was jealous of my experiences with my older sister who unfortunately passed. She now claims she was the person with my eldest sister when she wasn’t even in the same state! It was an eye opener! 🤯

Darren, you just described my family in law; I wished I would have known this 37 years ago; they made my life with my husband difficult, and their toxicity made me blind to my husband narcissism and dishonesty too. Their mother was the most narcissistic of them all, she had a favorite child, and my husband was the scape goat of the family. He was a sweet and lovely man thought, but that changed very quickly after we had our first child 27 years ago. His family did not accept me, and I noticed they would be jealous of me sometimes, but I did not understand why. My husband little by little started to show more jealousy and be more controlling, and, of course, he has been a cheater for so many years, :(

What is the thing with narcs and competition. My 61 year old stepdaughter has it in her head that we are competing for friends. She doesn’t get that we both can be friends with the same people. I am not in competition with her-never crossed my mind to be. She actually tries to take my friends away from me.

🚫🧛‍♂🩸The envy can be conveyed indirectly. My covert narc ex-friend has repeatedly picked up strange men in bars for attention even though she's a lesbian and not attracted to men. One of the few times I experienced her blatantly attacking me was the day after we hung out with a couple guys from a bar and one of them kept hitting on me. She sat there sulking in atypical silence even though I tried repeatedly to include her in the conversation (out of politeness and also for help fending him off!). Her word salad personal attacks the next day never mentioned the night before, but her focus on my supposed character flaws of attention-seeking and selfishness (that had never been mentioned before) plus her totally irrational (non-) "evidence" were kind of a clue. (Tip: if you want horny drunk people to hit on you for supply, maybe DON'T mention that your sexual preference doesn't include their gender! 🙄) It was awful at the time, but I'm perversely grateful for it and all the other times she let her mask slip because they helped me FREE myself. Life is so much better without someone constantly draining my time, energy, and self-esteem! ❤😃❤
