Over the course of 2020 I took the time to get my home gym better equipped and have spent more time focused on my legs. I don't have access to a leg curl machine yet. What would you recommend as an alternate exercise to help fire hams before squatting? Also, my lower back used to tighten up a lot when I would squat, either high or low bar. Over the past 2 months I have focused my leg time primarily on getting my front squat technique down (I think I like front squats better than back squats now). But the interesting benefit from all the time front squatting is that my lower back pain and tightness is 100% gone. Not to mention that my back squat numbers have gone up. Thanks for the continued great content!

Hamstring curls. Lay on your belly on the floor and use the bottom of your feet(sneakers) to pick up a dumbell. Then curls the dumbell with your hammies. Its a bit awkward initially but you'll get it down quick. Check out videos for a better idea of what I mean. I do this if im working out at home everytime before squats
@billmac44453 жыл бұрын
Saving this. I partially tore my adductor (i think) playing hockey a few weeks ago. I took a week off legs, then hit squats Saturday. My hamstrings felt completely over worked (compensating?) so I guess I'll take another week off. Sucks.

Had to sub. Very good stuff.
@roidwizard26793 жыл бұрын
I have some questions about substitutions. I'm active duty military, and our local gym has very few machines, but many free weights. What are some good substitutions for Calf Raises without a machine and for hack squats? We have a "V Squat" machine that's plate loaded, and it's similar to a hack squat, but the movement track isn't quite the same. Also, I do not have a Smith Machine for substitutions. Thanks

It's probably the abs and hamstrings/glutes being weaker/not engaged enough vs the hip flexors and low back being tight as a compensation pattern, so some things Dave already adresses in the video. These imbalances tend to tilt the pelvis anteriorly. Although I can't say for sure without actually assessing the movements you have these issues on.
