1. I need "Very Interesting Stuff Here" on a merch shirt ASAP! 2. My thoughts: Taylor's tweets are disgusting, prejudice, ableist, homophobic, colorist, etc. just terribly wrong. I can understand why she was feeling angry and defensive BUT she went about this situation completely wrong and centered herself as the victim in a situation where she is not. While I agree that people should be quick to speak up, you should balance that with not hurrying what you want to say, because that almost never goes well. With Rachael, 6+ weeks was too long. For Taylor, speaking up right away was too fast. There is an in-between that can exist. But in some ways, this is also irrelevant because what she truly should've done is pull a Jenna Marbles and be proactive in discussing the views she once held and discuss the work she's done to become a good ally. Too late for that now. She was angry because there are a significant number of people who are calling her out not because they care about the communities that were harmed by her tweets/rhetoric, not because they want the world to be anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-homophobic, etc. but because they wanted to drag her down. That IS wrong. But as soon as these tweets were made widely public, it very quickly stopped being about those people and immediately was about the people she harmed. It's cringy how hypocritical her apology was, as someone who has rightfully been so critical of others, she very quickly was unable to be as critical of herself. She led with anger, she led with defensiveness, when all she needed to do was be apologetic to the communities she has hurt. To answer your question about centering her whiteness: Taylor is biracial (Black/White) and from what I've gathered, I think she grew up in predominately white spaces and carried anti-Black, self-hatred which resulted in her being conditioned to acting more "white." There is an issue with Black and/or White rejection for biracial people (a whole other topic) but this can manifest anti-Black racism in someone who is part-Black. Taylor needs to humble herself. It's great that she's done a lot of work in the last 10 years to become a better ally, but the ego unleashed in her apology video is something that will take time to dismantle.
@DaveNealComedian3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this. I appreciate how you explained it all! Will be talking about this ‘centering’ more since I didn’t really understand it myself. Unpopular opinion: We are all racist, prejudice and hold some kind of priveledge. Am I surprised by Taylor's tweets nope but I am disappointed. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
@ForeverFalling1533 жыл бұрын
I agree with you...we are all (even us minority people) prejudiced in some way and should look at and work on our own prejudices and be open to understanding and forgiving people for their transgressions and to also appreciate theirs and our own efforts at growth. We all need to do the work and keep looking within for where we can improve and externally to also see where and how we can help make our world better and more just. I am a Native American who grew up on a reservation and went on to earn degrees as Taylor has and then work in a profession as she is doing. It is very difficult for some of us to get there. So, it is important to not tread lightly on people's careers. I believe Taylor has and needs to continue to look within, work on herself and ask forgiveness for past and current transgressions. None of us is perfect. Her messages sounded like she was not in a good place years ago and she is getting better. My suggestion is that we support her in that and encourage her to do so. And, as a Native American elder (lol - for real) I want to encourage anyone else bothering to read this to please take the time and make the effort to learn more about our actual history in this country to gain more of an appreciation for the impact that history has had on minorities and, if in a position in which you can have an impact, also try to change the parts of our system that continue to hold people back from being all they can be and having all they should have. We will all be better off.

On the positive side, I am learning a lot about how to take ownership of mistakes and how to apologise genuinely and humbly. And also how to hold others accountable and what an honest apology looks like. A lesson we could all do with learning. Thanks Dave!

Congrats on the new place! I can't believe she's a therapist. I wouldn't trust someone making rape jokes, being fatphobic and racist, and publicly saying mentally ill people should commit suicide to be helpful and non-judgmental as a therapist. I kind of hope her clients find someone better suited to the job. Her apologies were horrible and really didn't address all the people she insulted. She's also apparently talked about/insulted clients on social media.

As to the rush to denounce, it seems like silence equals complicity in this world. The Sean Lowe example shows this.
@DaveNealComedian3 жыл бұрын
Ya and I disagree, we should know the difference between silence equaling complicity versus The Sean Lowe example. We should know the difference.
@katrina483 жыл бұрын
@@DaveNealComedian, definitely. I'm not saying it's right, but in the current atmosphere, that's what's assumed (silence = complicity.) That's why people were flooding Sean's social to demand a response.

This has nothing to do with Sean, he an his family need to be left out of it. If it wasn’t his experience he has nothing to speak on, it doesn’t mean he is complicit either.

@@s.m6605 , I agree. Dave was talking about how Sean Lowe got bombed on social media because he didn't post a response to the Chris Harrison interview with Rachel Lindsay, and how now all of 'official' Bachelor Nation feels they have to post on any controversy that comes up. I have no opinion on whether Sean L. should or shouldn't comment.

As a half white/Asian person, it felt like she blamed and diverted her actions to her being part white. Hi Dave, thanks for your analysis. Right on the money. I'm a big fan of Married at First Sight and I think that the experts there have really failed to properly screen candidates in the last season or two. Same is true of The Bachelor as evidenced by these old tweets. Let's hope in the future that they screen social media feeds much more carefully. Nobody is perfect but who writes the kind of stuff that Taylor wrote? It's way overboard. I don't see how she can come back from this, especially with the lame apology, because she did not sound authentic at all with her remorse.
@chronicallybriana3 жыл бұрын
And lastly, I love you Dave and I completely agree with you that it's strange and sad that so many people in BN feel the obligation to denounce or even address these things they had absolutely no involvement in! Great comparison about a coworker getting fired for sexual harassment, and I thought it was super commendable of Sean Lowe to address that it's ridiculous that people were coming after him after he didn't address the CH drama because he was ON VACATION! Even if he wasn't on vacation-- why is it such a crime to not log into social media for a few days? People drive me nuts.

She’s stated in the past she would do the work to become an ally to the black community but she was clearly being performative because she’s done absolutely nothing since saying the n word publicly. Her statement after Chris Harrison’s interview was pathetic at Best. I used to respect her but not anymore. A shame truly

The honesty and "outsider" perspective you bring to this somewhat ridiculous franchise is what makes you funny and worth watching...You're clearly walking on egg shells at a few points in this video. I may be wrong, but to me it reads as you're worried that the same people giving you this platform will just as quickly turn on you for miss-speaking. Please don't pander to these jabronis...Your criticism of people crying "guilty by association unless you denounce!!" is completely well founded. Seems more and more like people are just desperately looking for "safer" more justified proxy outlets for any anger they themselves have. Does Taylor deserve hate? Idk. Do I dislike her. Yeah. What the hell's it accomplishing?
