@@jamesfraser4173 I think you may be thinking about Dr. Robert Childs, who is actually David's father. Bob Childs (also a very fine euphonium player) conducted Cory Band from 2000-2012 and David Childs was principal euphonium from 2001-2012. David's uncle is Prof. Nicholas Childs who is conductor of Black Dyke Band. Hope this helps.

It is hard for me to decide which sounds better oboe or euphonium. The oboe, for me, gives the impression of a haunting melody of distance and loss. The euphonium on the other hand sounds pastoral. Possibly a love song played in the distance hills, telling of promise and longing. Well, that's one persons opinion.

@Metal-Possum5 жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as a "Baritone", it's a made up term to describe a variety of different horns in that same register. The Euphonium, and the british-style "baritone" (Bb saxhorn in all honesty) are the same pitch, can play the same notes, and are both very similar except for one minor detail.... the Euphonium is more conical than most other instruments in this pitch. So, the real difference is just the tone, not the capabilities.

Being a fellow euph player i can speak for myself and atleast 3 of my euph friends and say that he has a great sound but being from the uk or austalia (one of the two) he sounds so much like a french horn!!! He has such a high/ light pretty sound whereas here in the us we focus more on deeper richer sounds.
@ThinkingSpeck8 жыл бұрын
+Emily Thornton That's really interesting. I'm about to get my hands on a friend's French horn out here in Australia, and this is the first thing I want to play on it. To me the euphonium and the French horn are the only two instruments that have the mellow sweetness for this piece. I've also played the ballsier sound on euphonium, mind you, particularly in the first harmonic on a four-valve instrument - I just tend to prefer the sweeter sound. Not actually a euph player btw - just a singer who's mucked around with a lot of different instruments over the years.

@Niffiwan15 жыл бұрын
But you think wrong. A euphonium may have 3 or 4 valves. The distinction between euphonium and baritone is based on the type of bore. If it is cylindrical (like a trumpet or trombone), it is a baritone, which has a brighter sound. If it is conical (like a tuba), it is a euphonium.
