The school I went to used to have us hold our arms out in front of us and and open and close our hands, squeezing as hard as we could while maintaining our hands perpendicular to the floor. Then without putting your arms down, extending your hands out flat and then wave them up and down without moving your arms. Then go directly to pointing your hands side to side. Think of how you start Set 5 on Wooden Man, Advanced training including twisting up a towel until it forms curls and then hold it out straight in front of you with both hands and pull on it as if trying to straighten it. Great for grip, wrist and shoulder strength. Throwing a towel over a pull up bar and doing pull ups until you can't do anymore and then just trying to hang on as long as possible also builds killer hand strength. The wrestling team at our local HS got a new coach and he added some of these exercises for his team. They went from never winning to placing very high in State Tournaments in one season. I'm not sure how they do now since my son graduated and I don't talk to the teachers there very much but the initial turn around was quite significant.

I need help with these. My friend introduced me to wing tzun and went to the same school as him. I’m quite interested and want to train more. My problem is that My body shakes so much. So if I stand in one leg and raise the other as high as possible I shake and lose my balance, my strength and then my form. So any tips to improve this?

I am terribly sorry, but these are not excerises for beginners! It is too hard for a beginner. I think you have to show an easier way to do this and then show where it should lead.

If this style of martial art is so effective - why not get in the ring and prove it? Why do top competitors not use any of this stuff - cause it does not work in a combat situation! It is all very impressive until you need it???
@BeAwareNL
@BeAwareNL 8 жыл бұрын
because a lot of the techniques used in wing chun arent allowed in ufc for example. they are meant to harm ur opponent badly, which is why they arent allowed bcause of rules
@robertbrady2799
@robertbrady2799 8 жыл бұрын
I take your point - thank you but this cannot be the case for all the techniques and I have to say that MMA is all about harming your opponent into submission or unconsciousness...a perfect place to demonstrate ...It is easy to make a KZbin video but somewhat more difficult to actually prove effectiveness. Your augment is well worn and has been used by many in the past. WC is nice to look at but needs to be treated as a sport or artistic endeavour not a serious defense/ attack system.
@ImSadik38
@ImSadik38 8 жыл бұрын
well.. i am not sure about how far you can go in mma but when we train wing chun we always train things like poking enemy eyes or kicking their nuts and stuff like that.. and i must say wing chun is not the greatest but no martial art is. there are definatly good sides of wing chun and i would definatly say wing chun works in real combat. but so does anything else when you know how to do it
@SteveFusionX
@SteveFusionX 8 жыл бұрын
Wing chun is not designed for "sport" at all. It's a self-defence system. It would not do well against MMA. Nickert is correct also - most (90%+) of wing chun moves are not allowed in UFC; striking to the groin, striking to the throat, eye gouging etc. It's not a "pretty" style and isn't designed for "scoring points" in front of judges. It's designed to save your life if you are attacked.A (pure) wing chun guy vs MMA would probably lose if they haven't cross trained in BJJ (as I have). Our class teached wingchun + juijitsu.
@SteveFusionX
@SteveFusionX 8 жыл бұрын
I'll also add that you'll never see WC in the Olympics, even though other martial arts are included. Simply because it would look so ugly, I believe. Some people believe that MMA/UFC is the only thing in the world that matters - competitive, sport "fighting". But most martial artists that actually train realise there is more to these systems than simply winning fights. It's a way of life and looking good/feeding the ego, earning trophy's is just not high on the priority list.
