A day in my life. I needed a calm day to regulate after a busy time.

Hi everyone, I’m an AuDHDer too and I’ve realized that I can only socialize for about two hours before I start to space out and then I need a lot more recovery time. So I’ve recently started telling my friends I can only hang out for two hour at a time, and that I might need help leaving after two hours, because I tend to be having so much fun I don’t want to leave. I was worried they would be upset or judgmental about it but actually they’ve been really great and supportive. Recognizing our limits and setting boundaries is so hard! But I’m really hoping it will help me feel more balanced going forward. Thanks for this reminder to rest and take care of ourselves and set boundaries.

I'm exactly the same. I'm AuDHD and I realized this a couple of years back and I also realized that people around me were surprisingly ok with me settings those boundaries. Although, as time has gone by, I've forgotten about my needs to regulate my socializing like this. Thank for the reminder! 🥰

Great comment! I realized I have about a maximum 1.5 hour window. Maybe 2hrs in some situations, but that's really pushing the limit for me.

I really enjoyed this format! I found this to be a very good reminder that it's okay to take days off, something I don't do enough for myself, and I end up burnt out or disregulated. I think I struggle because I still don't like to "plan" my days off, which of course, is usually absolutely necessary. If I plan for a day off, I can't enjoy it, but if I wake up one day and just want a quiet day, THEN I can recuperate, relaxe and regulate. I wonder if anyone else with PDA finds this is true for them?

Loved this...a good reminder for me as well. Sometimes I feel I'm on a better streak and it's hard to tell what derails that. Just now my partner and I made the decision to come home early from the pub (because I was beginning to overload) and now we're at home with gentle spring sunshine coming through the window, yummy but gentle smells of cooking on the way, and we're going to watch an old favourite movie of ours to reaffirm that feeling of safe space. I socialised a bit, sort of, and now it's safe cosy down time. 💜💜💜

I loved this video!!! you look so cute with your purple short hair and I loved your makeup and earrings 🥰🖤I completely relate to always wanting to have an exciting day. I sort of know I can’t handle it but I still try every day to “squeeze something in” last night I didn’t try to find activities and ended up falling asleep on the couch with my son. Not exciting but important for both of us to get that rest time. Thank you for the reminder!!

I always begin my day with an awesome smoothie, too😋 I've been chatting with my therapist about being evaluated, but she'd have to refer me to somewhere else 😕 The game sounds fun! 😊 Love your channel, Ella 💜

This was very nice. I liked the music a lot. I’ve been experimenting with bilateral stimulation music, but finding music that doesn’t stimulate my limbic system too much in the wrong way is a bit tricky. My current way of looking at self regulation is in terms of brain wave states and neural subroutines. It’s based on the same principal as the different sleeping states you are supposed to go through to have a proper sleep. I need to do research, but my thought is that there are different brain wave states I need to cycle in order to either recover from a compromised state - or ideally, to balance the amount of each state I experience in order to maintain homeostasis (not my best thing!). You are right that trying to stay in one state for too long, especially a busy, stimulated state, is unbalancing. This could be one reason that autistic people have routines - if you work out a way to cycle though states that keeps you balanced, why not stick to it? Those of us who are AuDHD would have the problem that we seek out active brainwave states too much of the time. The hard part is learning what states I need to cycle through, and when...and how.

I’ve been following your channel for a while now because my doctor suggested I have “mild autism” in his words. I recently took a test for ADHD too and ticked “very often” for all but one question. I’m also from the Black Country and now live in the West Country. Talk about tailored content lol.

Hello. I'm an AuDHDer, diagnosed last year with ADHD and recently with high functioning autism. I realise 'the spectrum' is no longer in use but do you find that most aspects of life as an AuDHDer are kind of 'a spectrum'? For example, thinking good but feeling bad, thinking right but feeling wrong, wanting health but being unhealthy, moralistic but have no boundaries, fine but unwell, normal and abnormal at the same time, stupid but sensible, can see but blind, are polite but quite rude, drunk but sober, awake but dreaming... the list goes on. The opposite ends of life's spectrum, every single day. It's like we have 'no' control over those things, they just happen and we 'be' whatever it is, but when it comes to spirit, good and evil, love and hate etc, those are left to their own devices because we 'dont' control those. Does that make sense?
