Day 7.

Its a cold one and I think the build is taking its toll, or maybe its just Monday blues?

Top tip for for anyone doing EDPM. Still do it in two halves and roll it over a plastic 110mm waste pipe or similar. This creates a rigid and heavy roll and it applies immaculately with good weight and pressure on the point of adhesion. Rolling without a pipe means it's floppy across the diameter of the roll and you don't get the concentrated pressure. Makes it easier, in case you're not a pro like Liam. Keep up the good work guys.

Another brilliant video. I started DIY 25 years ago - when I was often ridiculed going into trade shops for fittings and didn't know exactly what I was asking for. Thanks to people like you embracing youtube and more importantly, an open approach in sharing your vast experience, it makes doing jobs today a comparative breeze. I suspect you get a lot of work enquiries as when people actually watch your vids, think f***k that - what a lot of work ! Brilliant. Still loving this series. So helpful. Can I just say one thing. I'm not a safety fiend by any means but if anyone is drilling steel please wear safety glasses. I have been in hospital twice with steel in my eye and its not nice at all 🙈🤓. Infact I still have a piece in there now that they couldn't get out and it's healed over 🤣. Great video as always, that two-part gutter trim is a pig to fit. I had two lengths and gave up on the second bit as it broke so I just Polly top nailed it in place. For the price, there was no way I was going to order another length (stuff is utter trash).

With a piece of scrap rubber that has a crease, try and cover it with a thin tea towel and heat it up with an iron. If that doesn’t work try a slightly damp tea towel

When you put the corner pieces on the p trim, are you fixing it so the p trim now cannot move? Maybe a bigger hole through the p trim would help the warping problem? Brilliant video, thanks!

Hi. I am loving this series. Having been a carpenter on a former life (Azores, Sao Miguel, Portugal), I am egger to build my own garden office. I have got a couple of questions for you. The roof, which is slightly inclined, front to bottom, because you want to cut your sides square, you have used 8*2 on the sides, had them leveled then cut the slop at the top. This means the from facia will be verticaly leveled so will the back but, how about your roof joists? Another thing, how about fitting a P.V. array on that roof? Would this be permited? Or does the 2.5m hight would have to include the P.V panels or just the building? Much appreciated for your videos, efforts and kindness which it does not go unnoticed. Thank you.

Hi Liam. With the osb to the steel at the front could you have attached the slate battens to the osb first with little wood screws then clamped it to the steel and then gone through all of that with the proper screws? I’m just wondering if that would have been easier?

Love the videos, an avid watcher in prep of building my own in a year or so to come. Quick Q - what's the reasoning for adding a steel.. this seems to be new in the more recent videos? Is there a reason/change as opposed to timber framing the front before fitting bi-folds?

The steel is to carry the weight of the roof and the bifold doors mate. As far as I know if you use timber and it sags by as little as 1mm your bifold doors will stick.. that’s my understanding of it maybe Liam will have more information on it tho

Liam, thanks for the video series, really useful, probably worth adding to the build pack as a list of how to videos ;-) Quick question, do you leave the P trim without any sealant ? As far as I can see you have P trim on the Front, Left and Right and two piece gutter trim on back ? Is there any need to seal the P-trim against the rubber roof ? Or is the assumption that the water will simply run down the slope easier then trying to ingress between the P trim and rubber roof ?

I have ordered the permaroof pack and they sent sealant for the p trim. I also watched one of their tutorial videos that showed the sealant going on just before you pin it on. Wondered why you hadn't used it? Great video by the way 👏🏻

You may just need to move the building a bit to avoid the need for Building control approval. Anything over 15meter square internal footprint & within 1m of boundry requires BC approval or to be made from “substantially non combustible materials”

The roofing product you are using is designed to be laid in wet conditions and the preparation work you are doing is not necessary. I have laid many roofs of this nature and you seem to be over complicating a flat roof. However, I love your works on your garden sheds but hold some reservations about how you go about conducting and constructing it. Happy days.
