They really put zero thought into this mechanic. The very first time I heard one of them was Bill telling me about the convicts, you know, Bill? The guy who was trapped in the back of a store with no human contact of any kind since before the outbreak even began? Not to mention they still use the voice type thing from the original game for these which when combined with the new acting means survivor can sound like three entirely different people at the same time.

You want to know whats even more confusing about the changes with Kent? When he hits you, one of his taunts says "You should stick to shooting p*rn". A lot of the censorship in this feels so last minute with the certain stuff they kept. I'm huge against censorship and all but the changes in this game are so minor it makes me wonder why they did it in the first place. I still enjoyed this remaster, I even got all the achievements already. The time speed change is incredible and makes me really consider to just sticking with this version over the original.

Not trying to justify the Erotica tag, but personally speaking I feel like it was there because Frank is a photojournalist and in that line of profession it seems to make sense that he would inevitably snapping raunchy photos as scoops. It doesn't really diminish him as a perv in any way (nosebleed aside), it's just part of his job. I get why its removed, but it makes his photojournalist aspect feel much less of a focus.

But why remove the Erotica Tag if you are going to keep in all the sexy stuff anyway? The only reason to change Cliff's dialog and remove the tag are because to get into the Chinese market they had to take out anything derogatory or immoral to the CCP, since to get your product into the country a government official has to be apart of the process. Like how he has a lot of wrestling moves and the football tackle to let you infer he is a physical guy, the Erotica tag shows he can be a bit sleezy as well. It's a small character flaw that adds a bit of depth to his character compounded by the other attributes of his determination, wrestling prowess, photography skills, and good nature.

Anyone who can think isn't coming from an angle of "Muh horny in vida game" but how it is an odd change with little to no thought where the rest of the game has a lot of attention to detail and QoL improvements. Even in Ghenry's video he brings up how it negatively affects Kent's quest line as him wanting dirty photo makes sense. Like wise, dirty humor has always been in the series and in the remake as well, but the funny bit with Frank taking precious time from the clock to take lewd photo's and getting a nose bleed is the bridge to far? They still have a fat lesbian rapist, short hand for your experience points is "PP" (another fact Ghenry points out through the video), and zombies walking around in fishnets. The change doesn't fit the tone. People are rightfully concerned about censorship because we just saw Sony sell a game advertising a sexy protagonist, just to renege on that post launch AFTER people bought the game making it not the product that was advertised. After it was announced that DRDR was getting censored, likely to appease China's sensibilities, people started bragging about how Black Myth wasn't going to be censored but RePop was going to be like DRDR and that China is going to be the ironic bastion of free speech. There is reason to be concerned out side of "Booby pictures funny."

Regarding the Erotica tag and Kent's challenge, had it been up to me, instead of asking for an outtake, I'd have it be Brutality instead. Given that Kent is a photographer who seems to have no problem taking violent pictures and even orchaestrating some of them, it makes sense as to why he'd want a brutality pic from Frank.

I had a blast playing this as someone who loves the original game. Really enjoyed the changes to infinity mode actually making it fun to play now with the ability to speed up time as well as the AI improvements. The new skill books were a lot of fun too. Glad they still kept the same fun gameplay and charm as the original, just wish we had the old cast back as new voice actors aren't nearly as good.

Great review. There are missing details like the queen in the jar not moving around or the Mega Buster toy not lighting up when it gets shot. These are obviously small details, but as a fan since the launch of the original, they are noticeable. Also the Kneedrop feels super inconsistent. I dont like how QUICK the Somersault Kick goes off when you are trying to do a jump kick or roundhouse/ sweep. Idk. Like you said! You cannot make players like us not feel these very slight changes after playing for 20 some years.

I loved this game. I got up to Lvl.50 on Overtime Mode and I was able to get most of the survivors. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was awesome and I'm gonna go back to trying to beat Infinity Mode.

They removed Erotica due to it being the most general thing they would get attacked by the gaming press by. Not all of this remaster's changes are bad, but I feel like no longtime fan is going to prefer this version to the original. They declawed the gameplay, and I'm not talking about being able to skip time or the slightly smarter survivors, I think that is a good thing. The problem is nerfing the zombies and bosses, Dead Rising had a great sense of difficulty to the gameplay that you could overcome by becoming more knowledgeable about the mall, this is one of the games greatest aspects and its way devalued in the remaster by nature of it being quantifiably easier. Aside from that, the voice acting and censorship being how it is affects not just the plot but every psycho in the game, in the worst case, Cliff is not half as a memorable as he was in the OG, not just because he was voiced by Steve Blum, but also because they took out any explicit reference to him being a Vietnam veteran. The tragedy of him being a mentally torn soldier is a lot less impactful when he's disconnected from a real conflict. These two aspects of the game being changed is a dealbreaker for me, and I wouldn't recommend this remaster to new players because of it, or old players really, unless you're starved enough for dead rising that you want to play an inferior version of the original game just because it's different.

so basically this "Demaster" is just as easy as Dead Rising 3 in terms of gameplay. when I was watching gameplay videos from others who played this I notice the lack of blood in the game especially the Excavator when Frank lifts up the zombie and Adam's death scene, and I was right even Crowbcat's newest video pointed that out. I do not agree with Larry's change though, I have never (personally) met an asian with his characteristic from the original, (it be more racist if buck teeth would show tbh) but in this version he just looks less Asian lastly, the Ero-photoshots are part of what being a professional photographer catching someone in the act, it can happen depending on the act of what the person is doing whether if it's controversial or NSFW

13:55 I didn’t have the ability to save when I was doing Infinity Mode on the PS5. It is, however, easier due to psychos being marked on the map, enemies dropping items, and given that you can now fast forward at locations where you would normally save

I think what bums me out is that most people have forgotten about Dead Rising. It not as popular like RE or any other Capcom game. That fourth game really hurt its reputation that people just don't care about it anymore. I do feel those sequels also lost the charm of what made DR1 interesting to me. (This is me saying this while DR2 is one of my favorites. I got into the series very late) Now with the controversies of censorship and gameplay, these are what probably going to put some people off. I know there are people out that do care about the original game but there are others that don't. Some people are fed up about the current gaming trends that they won't even give DRDR a shot. Which is disappointing because I do think this remaster was pretty good. I appreciate that you explained your reasons. It was a honest critique that actually showcase some of those gameplay issues you were having. The lighting issues, zombie behavior, and even challenges should have been tweaked by now or have it's own new mode. For me, DRDR needed to have a little bit more content. I think the Devs did what they could to bring the series back. I ended up enjoying DRDR just like the original. If they do remaster DR2, I hope they can deliver and learn what they can improve from all this. I think Dead Rising deserves another chance.

Honestly, I think remember somewhere during the dev trailers for the game, the team mentioned they used a lot of the same animations and mocap. I wonder if, because they had the data, the reason a majority of some of these voice performances feel so weird is because they're trying to unnaturally stitch new performances onto mocap that was so usable for its time, that they literally were able to update it and give it the better animation it deserved. Ex little inflections like eyebrow movements, tongue movements, twitches, etc? Voice direction is also to blame a little bit, but you can't, forbatem, match people's physical performance with a vocal one. They must have been so intrinsically associated that when they just updated the graphics and models with the mocap they had, then put the voices over, no wonder it looked so weird? I'm not sure what the process is like over at capcom, but I imagine maybe they did something similar to Devil May Cry V or the modern RE games where they do photoscans of models and use that data to rig to the faces and performances of the VA's or Mocap artists. I imagine they probably thought they wouldn't have to do that since the performances from Rotollo and the rest of the cast of the original were still usable. But again, I have no idea what the recording process is like over there.

I guess at the very least, even if I personally disagree with your opinions on the erotic photo shoots being removed, I appreciate you're well balanced on the remake at least. It's really just a remake at the end of the day. And sure, I'm glad the original does exist, but I'm glad even despite being paid by Capcom with a review code you didn't go too positive or too negative. Just I think it's worth noting that a lot of people don't get offended with stuff like the Erotica photo shoot options. And I would argue personally if you take a photo of a rotting corpse for an erotica shoot then that reflect more on player decisions. Not Frank's decisions. You & Frank are not the same body. (Whatever you do and whatever Frank does are not the same. So if you participate in Kent's optional challenge in the original then you participated in that. You never really gotta do photo opportunity so I disagree it's an issue for Frank if you do it. It's just something fun imo.) I agree with your criticisms mostly otherwise. (Like the difficulty being toned down. And I guess the Larry thing is a fair enough change. I'm not offended but I'm not getting upset by that personally.)

I left the Dead Rising sub on Reddit after being a member there for many years. People there hate this game and hate any positive talk about it. They over exaggerate the small changes. They've hated on this review, made Stipo leave the sub when he was going through depression and they loved the Crowbcat video that left out all of the good stuff. I think it is weird how people focus on the film category removed or by making Larry better. I loved this version of my favorite game of all time and i absolutely loved the new Infinite Mode. I feel that if I ever want to jump back into the original that I'll choose this version instead. I've played the Original for nearly 20 years now and I've played it a lot the past 8 years due to this franchise being shelved. I'd gladly pay for a DR 2 DR next and I'd love to see Case West and Case Zero arrive on PC and Playstation finally.

After watching the video. I'll just stick to the original. I am not interested in a "deluxe" version of Dead rising when the original already there. I'll save my money for Shadows of the Damned a game that didn't sacrifice graphics, and no needless minor censorship. Though if the game does well, the directors mentioned they're gonna remaster DRDR 2. Which I'm *VERY* concern because that game is fill to the BRIM with s*x jokes, innuendos, women (and zombie women) in revealing clothing, TK's girls, d*ildos, that cop lady, Frank's exaggerated perverted nature, That creepy old lady celebrity, Fortune City being an adult resort and of course, Ted. I genuinely don't know if they're gonna pull a "It's the same game but with lots of alterations so here's a bunch of fun costumes to distract you from the changes", or really committed to actually be an honest remake (Yes it's a remake, and that's how I'm gonna see it don't bother arguing). I dunno, this isn't the Dead Rising I asked. I'm not gonna simply buy a game because it has shiny graphics, or "improved" when I already have the OG game untouched without being butchered, and *NOT EASY TO LEVEL UP* . Am I really not buying a game over the small changes? *HELL* *FU-KING* *YEAH* Not simply buying a game despite the 'hype' and buying a game that costs more than the original game feels nice! You definitely put it best with the whole censorship debate, the Erotica removal is way more nuanced than people really thought, when that whole thing was going on. Personally, they should've kept the sexiest shot thing in Kent's cutscene, but they should've made the player go for the most violent shot instead. Still makes Kent look like a psychopath when he's shown the goriest photo and either reacts by laughing or "tch... beginner's luck". Frank's reaction in the first cutscene of him shoving away the violent shot Kent has also reinforces to Frank/the player how fucked up Kent is

I could've asked for a review code, but chose not to. I'll talk about LC RP eventually, but I felt it was not worth my time, especially at the moment. From what I've played, it is an abhorrent port that plays mostly worse than the original, riddled with bugs and visual problems. The head producer showed no care in the actual product's performance or the visual style it was already renowned for.

Remake is a solid 8.5 but the original isntill a 9 out of 10 for me its cast and charm of the visual style was just unmatched the remake is really good but it has issues that ditract from ut like the new voices being passible but not as good as the original since the censorship of cliffs lines and the replacement of Steve Blum and TJ rotolo and so many others from the original cast although having more spoken duologue with survivors bosses and side characters was amazing and the bosses have newnmechanics and attacks in some cases thet make them a bit fresh like how Adams balloons have status effects when you shoot them now so you gotta pay attention to which one he's making before you shoot him or how the implemented the dampened damage mechanic for bosses from dead rising 2 off the record where if you spam attack a boss they take less damage after the initial hit unless you time you're strikes and forces you to actually learn their patterns even if they aren't necessarily harder now they are more interactive monments than when you could just slap carlito with a fish three times and be on you're way in the original so it's flawed but still great but i recommend the original now more than ever because it's the definitive dead rising 1 game to me but the remake is definitely worh experiencing after finishing the original because it allows you to truly appreciate and critique what they did right and wrong with this either way i highly recommend

I disagree with the narrative of Larry being concieved as a racial stereotype. Sure, he had exaggerated features, but it's not like some Chinese people don't look like that and it isn't racist to say that - and Larry didn't speak with a stereotypical accent like you'd hear in a commercial from the 50's. At the worst, he just sounded slow and dimwitted. Plus, this could be headcanon on my part, but this is how I always interpereted Larry in the original game: He’s an immigrant who adopted the American way of life and serves its people with obsession. In Carlito’s eyes he’s a traitor and a sellout who should be on his side considering the US coulda conducted their experiments anywhere including Larry’s original home and America has corrupted him to the point he represents everything Carlito hates about America but in the body of a foreigner which would arguably be even worse in his eyes as America’s ideals are polluting people that aren’t even originally from there. Though, you could argue that his new appearance could symbolize something different: He was born in America and in Carlito’s eyes aside from appearance has been completely neutered of his culture to the point of being indistinguishable from the average American including their obsession for greed and consumerism (which is also ironic considering Nick, Diego and probably the other orphans he infected considered him a terrorist and were raised as Americans) But that just feels less impactful imo.

It's always frustrating when comments like "Old Larry was never racist" would get upvotes like this. Speaking as a Chinese person, old Larry was basically telegraphing all the bad Chinese stereotypes that were prevalent in the 2000s and are again being said out loud in a post-COVID/Asian Hate world (those being the yellow skin, cartoonishly slanted eyes, missing gap teeth, bad hygiene).
